السَّلام عَلَيْكَ يَا أبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ ،

al-salām ʿalayka yā abā ʿabdillāh

Peace be on you, O Abu Abdullah!

---

السَّلام عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ،

as-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibna rasūlillāh

Peace be on you, O son of the Apostle of Allah!

---

السَّلام عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ أمِيرِ المُؤْمِنينَ ،

al-salām ʿalayka yā ibna amīr al-muʾminīn

Peace be on you, O son of the commander of the faithfuls,

---

وَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الوَصِيِّينَ ،

wa ibna sayyidi al-wasiyyeena

the forebear of the successors!

---

السَّلام عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ فاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِساءِ العالَمِينَ ،

al-salām ʿalayka yā ibna fāṭimah al-zahrāʾ sayyidati nisāʾ al-ʿālamīn

Peace be on you, O son of Fatimah, the choicest among the women of the worlds!

---

السَّلام عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ اللهِ وابْنَ ثارِهِ وَالْوِتْرَ المَوْتُورَ ،

as-salāmu ʿalayka yā thāra allahi wa-ibna thārihi wal-witr al-mawtūra

Peace be on you, O the select, surpassing, chosen in preference over all good of Allah, and son of Allah's (such) good.

---

السَّلام عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى الأرواحِ الّتي حَلّتْ بِفِنائِكَ ،

al-salāmu ʿalayka wa ʿalā al-arwāḥi allatī ḥallat bifināʾika

Peace be on you, who was martyred while fighting heroically in the cause of Allah, the son of Allah's fearless warrior, you were isolated and had been attacked with a vengeance!

---

وَأنَاخَتْ بِرحْلِك

wa anaakhtu bi rahlik

Peace be on you and on those souls who had gathered in your camp, and strided along with you, in your journey.

---

عَلَيْكُمْ مِنّي جَميعاً سَلامُ اللهِ أبَداً ما بَقِيتُ وَبَقِيَ الليْلُ وَالنَّهارُ.

ʿalaykum minnī jamīʿan salāmu allāhi abadan mā baqītu wa baqiya al-laylu wa al-nahāru

I pray and invoke Allah to keep all of you tranquil and restful, for ever; so far I am alive, this is my prayer, and till nights and days follow each other.

---

يَا أبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ ،

yā aba ʿabdillāh

O Abu Abdullah!

---

لَقَدْ عَظُمَتِ الرَّزِيَّةُ ، وجَلّتْ وعَظُمَتْ المُصِيبَةُ

laqad ʿaẓumatir-razīya, wa jal-lat waʿaẓumatil-muṣība

unbearable is the sorrow, nerve-racking is the agony, you put up with,

---

بِكَ عَلَيْنا وَعَلَى جَمِيعِ أهْلِ الإسلام ،

bika ʿalayna wa ʿala jamiʿi ahlil-islam

for us and for all the (true) Muslims,

---

وَجَلَّتْ وَعَظُمَتْ مُصِيبَتُكَ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ عَلَى جَمِيعِ أهْلِ السَّمَوَاتِ ،

wa jal-lat waʿaẓumat muṣībatuka fī al-sama-wāti ʿalā jamiʿi ahl al-sama-wāti

crimes committed against you also shocked and unnerved the dwellers of the heavens, one and all.

---

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً أسَّسَتْ أساسَ الظُّلْمِ وَالجَوْرِ عَلَيْكُمْ أهْلَ البَيْتِ ،

fala'ana allahumma ummatan assasat asasa alththulmi waljawri 'alaykum ahla albayti

May Allah condemn and damn the people who laid the basis and set up the groundwork, to wander astray and turn aside from not only you and your family but to take liberties and bear hard upon you.

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً دَفَعَتْكُمْ عَنْ مَقامِكُمْ

wa laʿana allāhu ummatan dafʿatkum ʿan maqāmikum

May Allah condemn and damn the people who tried to obscure and deny your office and status,

---

وَأزالَتْكُمْ عَنْ مَراتِبِكُمُ الّتِي رَتَّبَكُمُ اللهُ فِيها ،

wa'azalat-kum 'an maratibikum allati rattabakum allahu fiha

willfully neglected your rank and class Allah had made know in clear terms.

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكُمْ ،

wa laʿana allah ummatan qatalatkum

May Allah condemn and damn the people who killed you.

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ الْمُمَهِّدِينَ لَهُمْ بِالتَّمْكِينِ مِنْ قِتالِكُمْ ،

wa laʿan allāhu al-mumahhidīna lahum bi-al-tamkīni min qitālikum

May Allah condemn and damn the abettors who instigated and had a part in your murder.

---

بَرِئْتُ إلى اللهِ وَإلَيْكُمْ مِنْهُمْ

bariʾtu ila allahi wa ilaykum minhum

I turn to you and Allah, away from them,

---

وَمِنْ أشْياعِهِمْ وَأتْباعِهِمْ وَأوْلِيائِهِمْ.

wa min ashya'ihim wa atbā'ihim wa awliyā'ihim

their henchmen, their followers and their friends,

---

يَا أبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ ،

yā abā ʿabdillāh

O Abu Abdullah,

---

إنِّي سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سالَمَكُمْ ،

'innī silmun liman salamakum

I make peace with those who make their peace with you,

---

وَحَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حارَبَكُمْ

wa ḥarbun liman ḥārabakum

I make war on those who go to war against you,

---

وَوليٌ لِمَنْ والاكُم

wa waliyun liman walakum

I am his friend who is a friend of yours,

---

وعدوٌّ لِمَنْ عَاداكُمْ إلى يَوْمِ القِيامَةِ ،

waʿdawwun liman ʿadākum ilā yawm al-qiyāmah

And Iam his enemy who shows enemity towards you, till the Day of Judgement.

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ آل زِيَاد وَآلَ مَرْوانَ ،

walaʿana allahu āl ziyād wa āla marwān

May Allah condemn and damn the family of Ziyaad and the family of Marwaan;

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ بَنِي اُمَيَّةَ قاطِبَةً ،

wa la'ana allahu bani umayyah qatiban

may Allah condemn and damn the group and the tribe of Umayyah, one and all, altogether;

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ ابْنَ مَرْجانَةَ ،

wa laʿana allah ibn marjana'h

may Allah condemn and damn the son of Marjaanah;

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ عُمَرَ بْنَ سَعْد ،

walana allahu ʿumar ibn saʿd

may Allah condemn and damn Umar son of Saad;

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ شِمْراً ،

wa laʿana allah shi*mran

may Allah condemn and damn Shimr;

---

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ اُمَّةً أسْرَجَتْ وَألْجَمَتْ وَتَهيّأتْ وَتَنَقَّبَتْ لِقِتالِكَ ،

wa la'ana allahu ummatan asrajat wa aljamat wa tahiyyat wa tanaggabat liqitalika

may Allah condemn and damn the people who bridled the horses and errected the saddles for your martyrdom.

---

بِأبِي أنْتَ وَاُمِّي لَقَدْ عَظُمَ مُصابِي بِكَ ،

bi-abi anta wa ummi laqad ʿazhuma musabbi bi-ka

I, my father and mother are at your disposal. Profound is my sorrow for you.

---

فَأسْالُ اللهَ الّذِي أكْرَمَ مَقامَكَ ، وَأكْرَمَنِي بِكَ ،

fa-ʾasʾalu allāh al-laḏī akramamaqāmaka, wa-ʾakramanī bika

I beg Allah, who honoured you above others, to be generous towards me on account of you,

---

أنْ يَرْزُقَني طَلَبَ ثارِكَ مَعَ إمام مَنْصُور

an yarzuqanī ṭalaba ṯārika maʿa imām manṣūr

and give me the opportunity to be with the victorious Imam, at the time of the final and decisive war against Allah's enemies.

---

مِنْ أهْلِ بَيْتِ مُحَمَّد صَلّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ.

min ahli bayti muhammad ṣallā allāhu ʿalayhi wa ālihi

the descendent of Mohammad (blessings and peace be on him and on his children from Allah)

---

اللهمّ اجْعَلْني عِنْدَكَ وَجِيهاً بِالحُسَيْنِ عَلَيهِ السَّلام

allahumma ij'alni 'indaka wajihan bil-husayn 'alayhi assalam

O my Allah make me attend to Your cause, sincerely, in every respect following in Husayn's footsteps,

---

الدُّنْيا وَالآخِرَةِ مِنَ المقَرّبينْ .

ad-dunya wal-akhirati min-al-muqarrabīn

in this world and the hereafter.

---

يَا أبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ ،

yā ʾabā ʿabd allāh

O Abu Abdullah,

---

إنِّي أتَقَرَّبُ إلى اللهِ تعالى ، وَإلَى رَسُولِهِ ،

'innī ataqqarabu ilá allāhi taʿālá, wa-ilá rasūlihi

I pray and invoke Allah to send blessings on you. I come nearer and seek greater intimacy with Allah, with His Apostle,

---

وَإلى أمِيرِ المُؤْمِنينَ ، وَإلَى فاطِمَةَ ،

wa'ilā ʾamīr al-muʾminīn, wa'ilā fāṭimah

with Ameerul Moomineen, with Fatimah,

---

وإلى الحَسَنِ وَإلَيْكَ بِمُوالاتِكَ ،

wa-ilā al-ḥasan wa-ilayka bimuwālatika

with Hasan and with you, with the help of your love and patronage,

---

ومُوالاةِ أَوليائِك وَبِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِمَّنْ قَاتَلَكَ وَنَصبَ لَكَ الحَربَ ،

wa mūwālati awliyā'ik wa bil-barā'ati mimman qātalaka wa naṣaba lakal-ḥarb

cutting off every connection with those who took up arms against you and killed you.

---

وبالْبَرَاءةِ مِمَّنْ أسَّسَ أساسَ الظُّلْمِ وَالجَوْرِ عَلَيْكُمْ ،

wa bil-barāʾati mimmam assasa asāsa al-ẓulmi wal-jawri ʿalaykum

I disconnect all links with those who, in the beginning, took the first steps to take liberties with and bear hard upon you,

---

وَعلى أشياعِكُم وَأبْرَأُ إلى اللهِ وَإلى رَسُولِهِ

waʿalā ashya'ikum wa ʾabraru ʾilā allāhi wa ʾilā rasūlih

I take refuge with Allah and His Apostle (blessings of Allah be on him and on his children),

---

وَبِالبراءِةِ مِمَّنْ أسَّسَ أساسَ ذلِكَ ،

wa bil-barāʾati mimman asasa asāsa dhālika

free from the guilt of associating with those who laid the foundation for (your suffering),

---

وَبَنى عَلَيْهِ بُنْيانَهُ ،

wa bannā ʿalayhi bunyānahū

devised and carried out their corrupt plan of action,

---

وَجَرَى في ظُلْمِهِ وَجَوْرِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَى أشْياعِكُمْ ،

wa jarā fī ẓulmihi wa jawrihi ʿalaykum wa ʿalā ash-yāʿikum

boldly gave currency to reign of terror and cruelty to oppress you and your friends and followers;

---

بَرِئْتُ إلى اللهِ وَإلَيْكُمْ مِنْهُمْ ،

baritu ila allahi wa-ilaykum minhum

I detach myself from them and present myself to Allah and to you,

---

وَأتَقَرَّبُّ إلى اللهِ وَإلى رَسولِهِ

wa ʾataqarrabu ʾilā allāhi wa ʾilā rasūlihi

I (first) seek greater intimacy with Allah and then with you to win your love and patronage,

---

ثُمَّ إلَيْكُمْ بِمُوالاتِكُم وَمُوالاةِ وَلِيِّكُمْ ،

thumma ilaykum bimuwalatikum wa muwalat awliyaa'ikum

and to make friends with your friends,

---

وَبِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ أعْدائِكُمْ ،وَالنَّاصِبِينَ لَكُم الحَرْبَ ،

wa bil-barā'ati min aʿdā'ikum, wa al-nāṣibīna lakum al-ḥarb

cut off all links with your enemies, and with those who planted the seeds of hostility against you,

---

وَبِالبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ أشْياعِهِمْ وَأتْباعِهِمْ ،

wa bil-barā'ati min ash-yā'iham wa atbā'iham

and reject and discard their associates, their followers and their friends.

---

يا أبا عَبدِ الله

yā abā ʿabdillāh

O Abu Abdillah.

---

إنِّي سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سالَمَكُمْ ،

'innī ṣilmun liman sālamakum

I make peace with those who made their peace with you,

---

وَحَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حارَبَكُمْ ،

waḥarbum liman ḥārabakum

I search out and confront those who waged war against you,

---

وَوَلِيٌّ لِمَنْ والاكُمْ ،

wa waliyyun liman walaakum

I make friends with those who stood by you,

---

وَعَدُوٌّ لِمَنْ عاداكُمْ ،

waʿaduwwun liman ʿādākum

I strive against those who came in conflict with you, therefore,

---

فَأسْألُ اللهَ الّذِي أكْرَمَني بِمَعْرِفَتِكُمْ ، وَمَعْرِفَةِ أوْلِيائِكُمْ ،

fa-as'alullah alladhi akramani bi-ma'rifatikum, wa ma'rifati awliya'ikum

I make a request to Allah to acquaint (me) with the awareness that perceives you and your friends,

---

وَرَزَقَني البَراءَةَ مِنْ أعْدائِكُمْ ،

wa razaqani al-bara'ata min a'da'ikum

to set me free from the corrupting influence of your enemies,

---

أنْ يَجْعَلَني مَعَكُمْ في الدُّنْيا وَالآخِرَةِ ،

an yajʿalani maʿakum fi ad-dunya wal-akhirah

to make me keep company with you in this would and in the Hereafter,

---

وَأنْ يُثَبِّتَ لي عِنْدَكُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْق في الدُّنْيا وَالآخِرَةِ ،

wa-an yuthabbita li ʿindakum qadamu sidqin fi al-dunya wa al-akhirah

stand firm beside you and follow your footsteps closely in this world and in the next world.

---

وَأسْألُهُ أنْ يُبَلِّغَنِي الْمقامَ الْمَحْمُودَ لَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ ،

wa as'aluhu an yuballighani al-maqam al-mahmud lakhum 'inda allah

I beseech Him that he helps me to reach your highly praised station, given to you by Allah, (to meet you),

---

وَأنْ يَرْزُقَنِي طَلَبَ ثَارِي مَعَ إمَام مَهْدِيٍّ ظَاهِر نَاطِق بالحقِّ مِنْكُمْ ،

wa-an yarzuqanī ṭalaba ṯārī maʿa imām maḥdī naẓīr ʾbil-ḥaqq min-kum

He provides me the opportunity to fight for justice and fairplay alongwith and under the leadership of the rightly guided guide (in your progeny) who surely will come and speak the truth.

---

وَأسْألُ اللهَ بِحَقِّكُمْ وَبِالشَّأنِ الَّذِي لَكُمْ عِنْدَهُ

wa as'alullaha bihaqqikum wa bilsha'ni alladhi lakum 'indahu

I beseech Allah in the name of your right and the purpose He assigned to you,

---

أنْ يُعْطِيَنِي بِمُصابِي بِكُمْ أفْضَلَ ما يُعْطِي مصاباً بِمُصِيبَتِهِ ،

'an yu'tiya nī bimuṣābī bikum afḍala mā yu'tī muṣīban bimuṣībatihī

that He overwhelms me with grief in memory of your sorrows, more than the personal grief that torments any one who is in great agony,

---

يا لَها منْ مُصِيبَة مَا أعْظَمَها وَأعْظَمَ رَزِيّتهَا فِي الإسلام

yā lahā min muṣībatin mā aʿẓamahā wa aʿẓama razīyatuhā fī al-islām

sorrows which have no parallel and overshadow all calamities that took place in the history of Islam,

---

وَفِي جَمِيعِ أهلِ السَّموَاتِ وَالارْضِ .

wa fī jamiʿi ahli as-samāwāti wal-ardh

for that matter, through out the whole universe.

---

اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْني في مَقامِي هذا مِمَّن تَنالُهُ مِنْكَ

allahumma ij'alni fi maqami hatha mimman tanaluho minka

O my Allah, in my on the spot situation, treat me like him (or her) who obtains from You

---

صَلَواتٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ .

ṣalawātun wa raḥmatun wa maghfiratun

(Your) blessings, mercy and forgiveness.

---

اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْ مَحْيايَ مَحْيا مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد ،

allāhumma ajʿal mahyāya mahya muḥammadin wa āli muḥammadin

O my Allah, bring me to life again, after death, in the place Mohammad and his Aal (children) are dwelling,

---

وَمَماتي مَماتَ مُحَمَّد وَآل مُحَمَّد .

wa mamātī mamāta muḥammad wa āl muḥammad

make me depart from this world like Mohammad and his Aal (children) had left,

---

اللهُمَّ إنَّ هَذا يَوْمٌ تَبَرَّكَتْ بِهِ بَنُو اُمَيَّةَ وَابْنُ آكِلَةِ الاكْبادِ ،

allāhumma innahā yawmun tabarrakat bihi banū umayyah wa ibn ʾākilatil akbād

O my Allah this day is a day of rejoicing for the Bani Umayyah, the herd of hardened criminals,

---

اللعِينُ بْنُ اللعِينِ عَلَى لِسانِكَ وَلِسانِ نَبِيِّكَ صَلّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

al-laʿīnu bn al-laʿīni ʿalā lisānik wa lisāni nabiyyika ṣallā llāh ʿalayhi wa ālihi

the eternally damned and accursed group, a fact that had been made public by You and by Your Prophet (blessings of Allah be on him and on his children),

---

في كُلِّ مَوْطِن وَمَوْقِف وَقَفَ فِيهِ نَبيُّكَ - صَلّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ - .

fī kulli mawṭin wa-mawqif waqafa fīhi nabiyyuka - ṣallā allāhu ʿalayhi wa-ālih -

who, in every place and at all occasions, drew attention of people to this truism.

---

اللهُمَّ الْعَنْ أبَا سُفْيانَ وَمُعَاوِيَةَ

allāhumma l-ʿan abā sufyāna wa muʿāwiyah

O my Allah condemn and damn Abu Sufyaan, and Muawa'awiyah,

---

وَيَزيدَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ

wa yazīd ibn muʿāwiyah

son of Muwa'awiyah

---

وآلَ مَرْوَانَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْكَ اللعْنَةُ أبَدَ الآبِدِينَ ،

wa āla marwān, ʿalayhim minka al-laʿnatu abadan al-ābidīn

and let it be an everlasting curse upon tem from You.

---

وَهذا يَوْمٌ فَرِحَتْ بِهِ آلُ زِيَاد وَآلُ مَرْوانَ

wa-haḏā yawmun fariḥat bihi ālu ziyād wa-ālu marwān

Today the descendants of Ziyaad and Marwan make merry,

---

عَليهِمُ اللَّعْنةُ بِقَتْلِهِمُ الحُسَيْنَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلام ،

ʿalayhimu al-laʿnatu bi-qatlihimu al-ḥusayn ʿalayhi al-salām

laugh and dance because on this day they killed Husayn (blessings of Allah be on him).

---

اللهُمَّ فَضاعِفْ عَلَيْهِمُ اللعْنَ وَالعَذابَ الأليم .

allāhumma faḍāʿif ʿalayhimu al-laʿna wa al-ʿadhāba al-alīm

O my Allah, therefore, double up the curse You brings upon them and also the punishment You decrees for them.

---

اللهُمَّ إنِّي أتَقَرَّبُّ إلَيْكَ في هذَا اليَوْمِ ،

allāhumma innī ataqarrabu ilayka fī hādha al-yawm

O my Allah, I seek nearness to You today in this frame of mind,

---

وَفِي مَوْقِفِي هَذا ، وَأيَّامِ حَيَاتِي بِالبَرَاءَةِ مِنْهُمْ، وَاللعْنَةِ عَلَيْهِمْ ،

wa fī mauqifī hadhā, wa ayyāmī ḥayātī bil-barāʾati minhum, wal-laʿnatu ʿalayhim

cutting off all links with them for the rest of my life, denouncing them

---

وَبِالْمُوالاةِ لِنَبِيِّكَ وَآلِ نَبِيِّكَ عَلَيِه وعَلَيْهِمُ السَّلام.

wa bil-muwalāt li-nabiyyika wa āli nabiyyika ʿalayhi wa ʿalayhimus-salām

because of my love for Your Prophet and his children, peace be on him and them.

---

اللهُمَّ الْعَنْ أوّلَ ظالِم ظَلَمَ حَقَّ مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد ،

allāhumma alʿan awala ẓālim ẓalama ḥaqq muḥammad wa āli muḥammad

O my Allah condemn and damn the first tyrant who unjustly and wrongfully usurped that which rightly belonged to Mohammad and the children of Mohammad,

---

وَآخِرَ تَابِع لَهُ عَلَى ذلِكَ ،

wa ākhir tābiʿ lahu ʿalā dhālika

and bring curse upon those who, after him, followed in his footsteps.

---

اللهُمَّ الْعَنِ العِصابَةَ الَّتِي جاهَدَتِ الْحُسَيْنَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلام

allāhumma al-ʿani al-ʿiṣābata allatī jāhadatil-ḥusayna ʿalayhis-salām

O my Allah condemn and damn those conspirators who vexed and harassed Husayn,

---

وَشايَعَتْ وَبايَعَتْ وَتابَعَتْ عَلَى قَتْلِهِ.

wa shāyaʿat wa bāyaʿat wa tābaʿat ʿalā qatlih

eagerness, agreed mutually, and joined hands to kill him.

---

اللهُمَّ الْعَنْهم جَميعاً

allahumma al'anhum jami'an

O my Allah bring curse upon all of them.

---

السَّلام عَلَيْكَ يَا أبا عَبْدِ اللهِ

al-salām ʿalayka yā abā ʿabd allāh

Peace be on you, O Abu Abdullah,

---

وَعلَى الأرواحِ الّتي حَلّتْ بِفِنائِكَ ،

wa ʿalā al-arwāḥi al-latī ḥallat bifināʾika

and on those souls who came to your camp to put themselves at your disposal.

---

وَأنَاخَت برَحْلِك عَلَيْكَ مِنِّي سَلامُ اللهِ

wa ana-khatab raḥlika ʿalayka minnī salāmu allāh

So far I am alive and the days and nights follow each other I invoke Allah to send blessings

---

أبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَبَقِيَ الليْلُ وَالنَّهارُ ،

abadan ma baqītu wa baqiya al-laylu wa al-nahār

on you for ever and ever. May Allah not make my this pledge of close association,

---

وَلا جَعَلَهُ اللهُ آخِرَ العَهْدِ مِنِّي لِزِيَارَتِكُمْ ،

wa lā jaʿalahu allāhu ākhira al-ʿahdi minnī li-ziyāratikum

physical as well as spiritual, with you the last fulfillment.

---

السَّلام عَلَى الحُسَيْن ،

al-salām ʿalá al-ḥusayn

Peace be on Husayn,

---

وَعَلَى عَليِّ بْنِ الحُسَيْنِ ، وَعَلَى أوْلادِ الحُسَيْنِ ،

wa ʿalā ʿaliyy ibn al-ḥusayn, wa ʿalā awlād al-ḥusayn

and on Ali son of Husayn, and on the children of Husayn,

---

وَعَلَى أصْحابِ الحُسَينِ الذينَ بَذَلُوا مُهَجَهُم دُونَ الحُسين

wa ʿalā aṣḥābi al-ḥusayn alladhīna baḏalu muhajahum dūna al-ḥusayn

and on the friends of Husayn.

---

اللهمَّ خُصَّ أنْتَ أوّلَ ظالم بِاللّعْنِ مِنِّي ،

allāhumma khuṣṣa anta awwala ẓālimin bil-laʿni minnī

O my Allah, let the curse I call down on the head of the first tyrant stick like a leech;

---

وَابْدَأْ بِهِ أوّلاً ، ثُمَّ الثَّانِي ،

wa-ibda' bihi aw-walan, thumma ath-thani

and stay put for ever on the first, then the second,

---

وَالثَّالِثَ وَالرَّابِع ، اللهُمَّ الْعَنْ يزِيَدَ خامِساً ،

wa al-thalitha wa al-rabia, allahumma al'an yazid khamsan

the third and the fourth. O my Allah damn and call down evil on the fifth, Yazid son of Mua'awyah,

---

وَالْعَنْ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ زِيَاد وَابْنَ مَرْجانَةَ

walʿan ʿubayd allāh ibn ziyād wa ibn marjānah

and bring a curse upon Ubaydullah son of Ziyaad, ibna Marjanah,

---

وَعُمَرَ بْنَ سَعْد وَشِمْراً

waʿumar ibn saʿd wa shimran

Umar son of Saad, and Shimr,

---

وَآلَ أبي سُفْيانَ وَآلَ زِيَاد وآلَ مَرْوانَ إلَى يَوْمِ القِيامَةِ.

wa āla abī sufyan wa āla ziyād wa āla marwāna ilā yawm al-qiyāmah

on the descendants of Abu Sufyaan, on the descendants of Ziyaad, on the descendants of Marwaan, till the Day of judgement.

---

اللهمَّ لَكَ الحَمْدُ حَمْدَ الشَّاكِرينَ لَكَ عَلَى مُصابِهِمْ ،

allāhumma laka al-ḥamdu ḥamda al-shākirīna laka ʿalā muṣābihim

O my Allah! (All) praise is for You (alone); praise of the Ever-thankful to You, who glorify You whatever come to pass.

---

الحَمْدُ للهِ عَلَى عَظِيمِ رَزِيّتي.

al-ḥamdu li-llāh ʿalā ʿaẓīmi raziyyatī

(All) praise is for Allah for my deep-felt intense grief.

---

اللهُمَّ ارْزُقْني شَفاعَةَ الحُسَيْن عَلَيهِ السَّلام يَوْمَ الوُرُودِ ،

allāhumma arzuq-nī shafāʿata al-ḥusayn ʿalayhi as-salām yawma al-wurūd

O my Allah make available for me the recommendations of Husayn on the day I present myself before You,

---

وَثَبِّتْ لي قَدَمَ صِدْق عِنْدَكَ مَعَ الحُسَيْنِ

wa thabbit li qadam sadqi indaka maa al-husayn

let me stand firm in safety before You on account of my sincere attachment with Husayn,

---

وَأصْحابِ الحُسَيْن الّذِينَ بَذَلُوا مُهَجَهُمْ

wa-aṣḥābi al-ḥusayn alladhīna baḏalū muhajahum

alongwith him and his comrades, who sacrificed everything they had (heart, mind, soul and life)

---

دُونَ الْحُسَيْن عَلَيْهِ السَّلام.

dūna al-ḥusayn ʿalayhi as-salām

for Husayn, peace be on him.

---

You may then repeat the following one hundred times:

---

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱلْعَنْ أَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ

allāhumma al'ana ʾawwala żālimin.

O Allah, pour curses upon the foremost persecutor

---

ظَلَمَ حَقَّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ẓalama ḥaqq muḥammadin wa āli muḥammadin.

who usurped the right of Muhammad and Muhammad's Household

---

وَآخِرَ تَابِعٍ لَهُ عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ

wa akhira tabi'in lahu 'ala dhalika.

and the last follower who acceded to his deed.

---

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱلْعَنِ ٱلْعِصَابَةَ ٱلَّتِي جَاهَدَتِ ٱلْحُسَيْنَ

allāhumma al'anil ʿiṣābata allatī jāhadata al-ḥusayn.

O Allah, pour curses upon the gang that struggled against al-Husayn

---

وَشَايَعَتْ وَبَايَعَتْ وَتَابَعَتْ عَلَىٰ قَتْلِهِ

wa shāyaʿat wabāyaʿat watabaʿat ʿalá qatlihi

and who supported each other against him, paid homage to his enemies, and participated in slaying him.

---

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱلْعَنْهُمْ جَمِيعاً

Allāhumma al-ʿanhum jameeʿan.

O Allah, pour curses upon all of them.

---

You may then repeat the following one hundred times:

---

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱلْعَنْهُمْ جَمِيعاً

allāhumma al'anhum jamī'an.

O Allah, pour curses upon all of them.

---

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

al-salāmu ʿalayka yā aba ʿabdillāh.

Peace be upon you, O Abu-`Abdullah

---

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلأَرْوَاحِ ٱلَّتِي حَلَّتْ بِفِنَائِكَ

wa ʿalā al-arwāḥi allatī hallat bifināʾik.

and upon the souls that gathered in your courtyard.

---

عَلَيْكَ مِنِّي سَلاَمُ ٱللَّهِ أَبَداً

ʿAlayka minnī salāmu Allahi abadan.

Peace of Allah be upon you from me forever

---

مَا بَقيتُ وَبَقِيَ ٱللَّيْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ

mā baqītu wa baqiya l-laylu wa n-nahāru.

as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night.

---

وَلاَ جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ آخِرَ ٱلْعَهْدِ مِنِّي لِزِيَارَتِكُمْ

walā jaʿalahu allāhu ākhira al-ʿahdi minnī liziyāratikum.

May Allah not cause this (visit) to be the last of my visit to you (all).

---

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

as-salāmu ʿalā al-ḥusayn.

Peace be upon al-Husayn,

---

وَعَلَىٰ عَلِيِّ بْنِ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa ʿalā ʿalī ibn al-ḥusayn.

upon `Ali ibn al-Husayn,

---

وَعَلَىٰ أَوْلاَدِ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa ʿalā awlād al-ḥusayn.

upon the sons of al-Husayn,

---

وَعَلَىٰ أَصْحَابِ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa ʿalā aṣḥābi al-ḥusayn.

and upon the companions of al-Husayn.

---

You may then say the following words:

---

وَعَلَىٰ أَصْحَابِ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa ʿalā aṣḥābi al-ḥusayn.

and upon the companions of al-Husayn.

---

اَللَّهُمَّ خُصَّ أَنْتَ أَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ بِٱللَّعْنِ مِنِّي

allāhumma khuṣṣa anta awwala dhālimin bi-l-la'ni minnī.

O Allah, pour special curses on the foremost persecutor

---

وَٱبْدَأْ بِهِ أَوَّلًا

wa'ibda' bihi awwalan.

and begin with him first,

---

ثُمَّ ٱلْعَنِ ٱلثَّانِيَ وَٱلثَّالِثَ وَٱلرَّابِعَ

thumma al'ani alththaniya walththalitha waarrrabi'a.

and then pour curses on the second, the third, and the fourth.

---

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱلْعَنْ يَزِيدَ خَامِساً

allahumma al'an yazid khamesan.

O Allah, curse Yazid fifthly,

---

وَٱلْعَنْ عُبَيْدَ ٱللَّهِ بْنَ زِيَادٍ وَٱبْنَ مَرْجَانَةَ

wa al'an ʿubayd allāh ibn ziyād wa ibn marjānah.

and curse `Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad, the son of Marjanah,

---

وَعُمَرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ وَشِمْراً

waʿumar ibn saʿd wa shimran.

Umar ibn Sad, Shimr,

---

وَآلَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَآلَ زِيَادٍ وَآلَ مَرْوَانَ

wa āla abī sufyan wa āla ziyād wa āla marwāna.

the family of Abu-Sufyan, the family of Ziyad, and the family of Marwan

---

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَامَةِ

ʾIlā yawmi al-qiyāmah.

up to the Resurrection Day.

---

You may then prostrate yourself while saying the following words:

---

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَامَةِ

'ilā yawm al-qiyāmah.

up to the Resurrection Day.

---

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ

allāhumma lakal-ḥamdu.

O Allah, all praise be to You;

---

حَمْدَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ لَكَ عَلَىٰ مُصَابِهِمْ

ḥamd ash-shākireen laka ʿalā muṣābihim.

the praise of those who thank You for their misfortunes.

---

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَىٰ عَظِيمِ رَزِيَّتِي

al-ḥamdulillāhi ʿalā ʿaẓīmi razīyatī.

All praise be to Allah for my great misfortune.

---

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱرْزُقْنِي شَفَاعَةَ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ يَوْمَ ٱلْوُرُودِ

allāhumma arzuqnī shafāʿata al-ḥusayn yawm al-wurūd.

O Allah, (please) grant me the intercession of al-Husayn on the Day of Coming (to You)

---

وَثَبِّتْ لِي قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَكَ

wa thabbit li qadam sidqin 'indaka.

and make for me with You a firm step of honesty

---

مَعَ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ وَأَصْحَابِ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

maʿa al-ḥusayn wa-ashābi al-ḥusayn.

with al-Husayn and the companions of al-Husayn
