أَللَّهُمَّ يَا كَافِيَ الْفَرْدِ الضَعِيْفِ، وَوَاقِيَ الامْرِ الْمَخُوْفِ،

allāhumma yā kāfīya al-fard al-ḍaʿīf, wa wāqiya al-amri al-makḥūf

O God, O Sufficer of the isolated and weak and Protector against terrifying affairs!

---

أَفْرَدَتْنِي الْخَـطَايَا; فَـلاَ صَاحِبَ مَعِي،

afradatni al-khaṭāyā; falā ṣāḥiba maʿī

Offenses have isolated me, so there is none to be my companion.

---

وَضَعُفْتُ عَنْ غَضَبِكَ; فَلاَ مُؤَيِّدَ لِي،

waḍaʿuftu ʿan ghaḍabika; falā muʾayyida lī

I am too weak for Thy wrath and there is none to strengthen me.

---

وَأَشْرَفْتُ عَلَى خَوْفِ لِقَائِكَ; فَلاَ مُسَكِّنَ لِرَوْعَتِي،

wa-ashraftu ʿalaa khawfi liqa'ika; falaa musakkina li-rawʿati

I have approached the terror of meeting Thee and there is none to still my fear.

---

وَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُنِي مِنْكَ وَأَنْتَ أَخَفْتَنِي؟

wa-man yu'minuni mink(a) wa-anta akhafatni?

Who can make me secure from Thee when Thou hast filled me with terror?

---

وَمَن يساعِدُنِي وَأَنْتَ أَفْرَدْتَنِي؟

wa-man yusā`idunī wa-anta afradtanī?

Who can come to my aid when Thou hast isolated me?

---

وَمَنْ يُقَوِّيْنِي وَأَنْتَ أَضْعَفْتَنِي؟

wa-man yuqawwimni wa-anta ad'afatani?

Who can strengthen me when Thou hast weakened me?

---

لاَ يُجيرُ يا إلهي إلاّ رَبٌّ عَلَى مَرْبُوب،

lā yujīru yā ilāhī illā rabbun ʿalā marbūb

None can grant sanctuary to a vassal, my God, but a lord,

---

وَلاَ يُؤْمِنُ إلاّ غالِبٌ عَلَى مَغْلُوب،

wa lā yuʾminu illā ghālibun ʿalā maghlūb

none can give security to one dominated but a dominator,

---

وَلاَ يُعِينُ إِلاّ طالِبٌ عَلَى مَطْلُوب،

wa lā yuʿīnu illā ṭālibun ʿalā maṭlūb

none can aid him from whom demands are made but a demander.

---

وَبِيَـدِكَ يَـاَ إلهِي جَمِيعُ ذلِكَ السَّبَبِ، وَإلَيْكَ الْمَفَرُّ وَالْمَهْربُ.

wa biyadika ya ilahi jami'u dhalika al-sababi, wa ilaika al-mafarru wa al-mahrabu

In Thy hand, my God, is the thread of all that, in Thee the place of escape and flight,

---

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi

so bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَأَجِرْ هَرَبِي وَأَنْجِحْ مَطْلَبِي.

wa-ajir harabī wa-anjih maṭlabī

give sanctuary to me in my flight, and grant my request!

---

أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ إنْ صَرَفْتَ عَنِّي وَجْهَكَ الْكَرِيْمَ،

allāhumma innaka in saraf ta ʿannī wajhaka al- karīm

O God, if Thou shouldst turn Thy generous face away from me,

---

أَوْ مَنَعْتَنِي فَضْلَكَ الْجَسِيمَ،

'aw manā'tanī faḍlaka al-jasīmā

withhold from me Thy immense bounty,

---

أَوْ حَظَرْتَ عَلَيَّ رِزْقَكَ أَوْ قَطَعْتَ عَنِّي سَبَبَـكَ

'aw ḥaẓarta ʿalayya rizqaka 'aw qaṭaʿta ʿannī sababaka

forbid me Thy provision, or cut off from me Thy thread,

---

لَمْ أَجِدِ السَّبِيـلَ إلَى شَيْء مِنْ أَمَلِي غَيْرَكَ،

lam ajidi as-sabil ila shay'in min amalii ghayrak

I will find no way to anything of my hope other than Thee

---

وَلَمْ أَقْدِرْ عَلَى مَا عِنْدَكَ بِمَعُونَةِ سِوَاكَ; فَإنِّي عَبْدُكَ،

wa lam aqdir 'ala ma 'indaka bima'unati siwaka; fa-inni 'abduk

nor be given power over what is with Thee through another's aid, for I am Thy servant

---

وَفِي قَبْضَتِكَ نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ، لاَ أَمْرَ لِي مَعَ أَمْرِكَ،

wa fī qabḍatika nāṣiyatī biyadika, lā amra lī maʿa amrika

and in Thy grasp; my forelock is in Thy hand. I have no command along with Thy command.

---

مَاض فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ،

māḍ fīyya ḥukmuka, ʿadlun fīyya qaḍāʾuka

'Accomplished is Thy judgement of me, just Thy decree for me!'

---

وَلاَ قُوَّةَ لِي عَلَى الْخُـرُوجِ مِنْ سُلْطَانِـكَ،

wa lā quwwata lī ʿalā al-khurūji min sultanika

I have not the strength to emerge from Thy authority

---

وَلاَ أَسْتَطِيـعُ مُجَاوَزَةَ قُدْرَتِكَ،

walā astaṭīʿu mujāwazata qudratika

nor am I able to step outside Thy power.

---

وَلاَ أَسْتَـمِيلُ هَوَاكَ، وَلاَ أبْلُغُ رِضَاكَ،

wa lā astamilu hawāka, walā ablughu riḍāka

I cannot win Thy inclination, arrive at Thy good pleasure,

---

وَلاَ أَنَالُ مَا عِنْدَكَ إلاَّ بِطَاعَتِكَ وَبِفَضْل رَحْمَتِكَ.

walā anālu mā ʿindaka illā biṭāʿatika wa bifadl raḥmatika

or attain what is with Thee except through obeying Thee and through the bounty of Thy mercy.

---

إلهِي أَصْبَحْتُ وَأَمْسَيْتُ عَبْداً دَاخِراً لَكَ،

ilāhī ʾaṣbaḥtu waʾamsaytu ʿabdān dākhiran laka

O God, I rise in the morning and enter into evening as Thy lowly slave.

---

لا أَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِي نَفْعاً وَلاَ ضَرّاً إلاَّ بِكَ

lā amliku li-nafsī nafʿan walā ḍarran illā bika

I own no profit and loss for myself except through Thee.

---

أَشْهَدُ بِذَلِكَ عَلَى نَفْسِي وَأَعْتَـرِفُ بِضَعْفِ قُـوَّتِي وَقِلَّةِ حِيْلَتِي

ashhadu bi dhalika ʿala nafsi wa aʿtarifu bi ḍaʿfi quwwati wa qillati ḥiylati

I witness to that over myself and I confess to the frailty of my strength and the paucity of my stratagems.

---

فَأَنْجزْ لِي مَا وَعَدْتَنِي، وَتَمِّمْ لِي مَا آتَيْتَنِي;

fa'anjiẓ li mā waʿadtanī, wa tamimm li mā ʾātaytanī

So accomplish what Thou hast promised me and complete for me what Thou hast given me,

---

فَإنِّي عَبْـدُكَ الْمِسْكِينُ الْمُسْتكِينُ الضَّعِيفُ

fa-in-ni ʿab-duka al-mis-ki-nu al-mus-ta-ki-nu al-ḍaʿ-īf

for I am Thy slave, miserable, abased, frail,

---

الضَّـرِيـرُ الذَّلِيلُ الْحَقِيرُ الْمَهِينُ الْفَقِيرُ الْخَائِفُ الْمُسْتَجِيرُ.

al-ḍarīru al-ḏẓilil al-ḥaqīru al-mahīnu al-faqīru al-khāʾifu al-mustajīru

distressed, vile, despised, poor, fearful, and seeking sanctuary!

---

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

---

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي نَاسِيَاً لِذِكْرِكَ فِيمَا أَوْلَيْتَنِي،

wa lā tajʿalnī nāsiyāan li dhikrika fīmā aulaytanī

and let me not forget to remember Thee in what Thou hast done for me,

---

وَلاَ غافِلاً لإحْسَانِكَ فِيمَا أَبْلَيْتَنِي،

walā ghāfilan li-iḥsānik fīmā ablaytanī

be heedless of Thy beneficence in Thy trying me,

---

وَلا آيسَاً مِنْ إجَابَتِكَ لِي وَإنْ أَبْطَأتَ عَنِّي

wa lā ʾāysan min ʾijābatika lī wa-in ʾabṭaʾta ʿannī

or despair of Thy response to me, though it keep me waiting,

---

فِي سَرَّاءَ كُنْتُ أَوْ ضَرَّاءَ، أَوْ شِدَّة أَوْ رَخَاء،

fī sarrāʾa kun tu aw ḍarrāʾa, aw shiddaẗin aw rakḥāʾ

whether I be in prosperity or adversity, hardship or ease,

---

أَوْ عَافِيَة أَوْ بَلاء، أَوْ بُؤْس أَوْ نَعْمَاءَ،

aw ʿafiyah aw balāʾ, aw buʾs aw naʿmāʾ

well-being or affliction, misery or comfort,

---

أَوْ جِدَة أَوْ لأوَاءَ، أَوْ فَقْر أَوْ غِنىً.

aw jidah aw lawa', aw faqr aw ghinā

wealth or distress, poverty or riches!

---

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَاجْعَلْ ثَنائِي عَلَيْكَ وَمَدْحِي إيَّاكَ

wa-jʿal thanā'i ʿalayka wa-madḥī iyyāka

make me laud Thee, extol Thee,

---

وَحَمْدِي لَكَ فِي كُلِّ حَالاَتِي

wa ḥamdī laka fī kulli ḥalātī

and praise Thee in all my states

---

حَتَّى لاَ أَفْرَحَ بِمَا آتَيْتَنِي مِنَ الدُّنْيَا،

ḥattá lā ʾafráḥa bimā ʾātaytanī mina al-dunyā

so that I rejoice not over what Thou givest me of this world

---

وَلاَ أَحْـزَنَ عَلَى مَا مَنَعْتَنِي فِيهَا،

wa laa aḥzan ʿalaa maa manaʿtani fiiha

nor sorrow over that of it which Thou withholdest from me!

---

وَأَشْعِرْ قَلْبِي تَقْوَاكَ،

wa ash'ir qalbi taqwaak

Impart reverential fear of Thee to my heart,

---

وَاسْتَعْمِلْ بَدَنِي فِيْمَا تَقْبَلُهُ مِنِّي،

waastaʿmil badanī fīmā taqbāluhu minnī

employ my body in that which Thou acceptest from me,

---

وَاشْغَلْ بِطَاعَتِكَ نَفْسِي عَنْ كُلِّ مَايَرِدُ عَلَىَّ

wa ashghal bi taʿaatika nafsī ʿan kulli mā yaridu ʿalayya

and divert my soul through obedience to Thee from all that enters upon me,

---

حَتَّى لاَ اُحِبَّ شَيْئَاً مِنْ سُخْطِكَ،

ḥattá lā uḥibba shayʾan min sukhṭika

so that I love nothing that displeases Thee

---

وَلا أَسْخَطَ شَيْئـاً مِنْ رِضَـاكَ.

wa lā askhata shay'an min riḍāka

and become displeased at nothing that pleases Thee!

---

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَفَرِّغْ قَلْبِي لِمَحَبَّتِكَ ، وَاشْغَلْهُ بِذِكْرِكَ،

wa farriġ qalbi li-maḥabbatika, wa ashġalhu bi-dhikrika

empty my heart for Thy love, occupy it with remembering Thee,

---

وَانْعَشْهُ بِخَوْفِكَ ، وَبِالْوَجَلِ مِنْكَ،

wa inʿashu bi khawfika, wa bil wajali minka

animate it with fear of Thee and quaking before Thee,

---

وَقَوِّهِ بِالرَّغْبَةِ إلَيْكَ، وَأَمِلْهُ إلَى طَاعَتِكَ،

wa qawwih bi-r-raghbah ilayka, wa amilhu ila ta'atika

strengthen it with beseeching Thee, incline it to Thy obedience,

---

وَأَجْرِ بِهِ فِي أَحَبِّ السُّبُلِ إلَيْكَ،

wa ajri bihi fi ahabbi alssubuli ilayka

set it running in the path most beloved to Thee,

---

وَذَلِّلْهُ بِالرَّغْبَةِ فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ أَيَّامَ حَيَاتِي كُلِّهَا،

wa dha(ll)ilhu bi-r-raqbah fima `indaka ayyama hayati kulliha

and subdue it through desire for what is with Thee all the days of my life!

---

وَاجْعَلْ تَقْوَاكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا زَادِي،

wa-jaʿl taqwāka minad-dunyā zādī

Let my provision in this world be reverential fear of Thee (ref. 2:197),

---

وَإلَى رَحْمَتِكَ رِحْلَتِي، وَفِي مَرْضَاتِكَ مَدْخَلِي.

wa'ilā raḥmatika riḥlatī, wa fī marḍātika madkhalī

my journey be toward Thy mercy, and my entrance be into Thy good pleasure!

---

وَاجْعَلْ فِي جَنَّتِكَ مَثْوَايَ،

wa-jaʿl fi jannatika mathwaya

Appoint for me a lodging in Thy Garden,

---

وَهَبْ لِي قُوَّةً أَحْتَمِلُ بِهَا جَمِيعَ مَرْضَاتِكَ،

wa hab li quwwatan ahtamilu biha jami'a marzatika

give me strength to bear everything that pleases Thee,

---

وَاجْعَلْ فِرَارِي إلَيْكَ، وَرَغْبَتِي فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ،

wa-jʿal firaari ʾilayka, wa-raghbatii fima ʿindak

make me flee to Thee and desire what is with Thee,

---

وَأَلْبِسْ قَلْبِي الْوَحْشَةَ مِنْ شِرارِ خَلْقِكَ.

waalbis qalbi alwahshata min shiraar khalkika

clothe my heart in estrangement from the evil among Thy creatures,

---

وَهَبْ لِي الأُنْسَ بِكَ وَبِأَوْلِيَـآئِكَ وَأَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ،

wa hab li al-uns bi-ka wa bi-awliyā'ika wa ahli ṭā'atika

and give me intimacy with Thee, Thy friends, and those who obey Thee!

---

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْ لِـفَاجِـر وَلا كَافِر عَلَيَّ مِنَّةً،

walā tajʿal li-fājirin walā kāfirin ʿalayya minnan

Assign to no wicked person or unbeliever a kindness toward me

---

وَلاَ لَـهُ عِنْدِي يَداً، وَلا بِي إلَيْهِمْ حَاجَةً،

wa lā lahu ʿindī yadun, wa lā bī ilayhim ḥājaẗan

or a hand that obliges me, nor to me a need for one of them!

---

بَل اجْعَـلْ سُكُـونَ قَلْبِي وَاُنْسَ نَفْسِي

bal ijʿal sukoona qalbi wa ʾunsan nafsi

Rather make the stillness of my heart, the comfort of my soul,

---

وَاسْتِغْنَـائِي وَكِفَايَتِي بِكَ وَبِخِيَـارِ خَلْقِكَ.

wa-istiġnā'ī wa-kifāyatī bika wa-biḫiyāri ḫalqi-k

my independence and my sufficiency lie in Thee and the best of Thy creatures!

---

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَاجْعَلْنِي لَهُمْ قَـرِيناً، وَاجْعَلْنِي لَهُمْ نَصِيْراً،

waj'alni lahum qareenan, waj'alni lahum nasira

make me their comrade, make me their helper,

---

وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِشَوْق إلَيْكَ، وَبِالْعَمَلِ لَكَ بِمَا تُحِبُّ وَتَرْضَى

wa-amnun 'alayya bi-shawq ilayka, wa-bil-'amali laka bima tuhibbu wa-tarda

and oblige me with yearning for Thee and doing for Thee what Thou lovest and approvest!

---

إنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ،

'innaka 'ala kulli shay'in qadirun

Thou art powerful over everything (3:26)

---

وَذَلِكَ عَلَيْكَ يَسِيرٌ .

wa-dhalika ʿalayka yaseerun

and that is easy for Thee.
