When He Mentioned Satan And Sought Refuge From Him
Duaa
أَللَّهُمَّ إنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ
allāhumma innā naʿūdhu bika
O God, we seek refuge in Thee
مِنْ نَزَغَـاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَكَيْدِهِ وَمَكَائِدِهِ،
min nazaghati ash-shaytani ar-rajimi wa kaydihi wa maka'idih
from the instigations of the accursed Satan, his trickery, and his traps,
وَمِنَ الثِّقَةِ بِأَمَـانِيِّهِ وَمَوَاعِيدِهِ وَغُرُورِهِ وَمَصَائِدِهِ،
wa mina alththiqati bi'amanihi wa mawa'idih wa ghururihi wa masa'idih
from trust in his false hopes, his promises, his delusions, and his snares,
وَأَنْ يُطْمِعَ نَفْسَهُ فِي إضْلاَلِنَا
wa-an yuṭmiʿa nafsahu fī iḍlālinā
and lest he should make himself crave to lead us away
عَنْ طَاعَتِكَ وَامْتِهَانِنَا بِمَعْصِيَتِكَ،
ʿan ṭāʿatika wa-amtihāninā bimaʿṣiyatika
from Thy obedience and to degrade us through our disobeying Thee,
أَوْ أَنْ يَحْسُنَ عِنْدَنَا مَا حَسَّنَ لَنَا،
aw ʾan yahsun ʿindanā mā ḥassana lanā
and lest what he has shown us as beautiful be beautiful for us
أَوْ أَنْ يَثْقُلَ عَلَيْنَا مَا كَرَّهَ إلَيْنَا.
aw an yathqula ʿalayna ma karrh ilayna
and what he has shown us as detestable weigh down upon us.
أللَّهُمَّ اخْسَأْهُ عَنَّا بِعِبَادَتِكَ،
allāhumma akhsaʾhu ʿannā bi ʿibādataka
O God, drive him away from us through Thy worship,
وَاكْبِتْهُ بِدُؤوبِنَا فِي مَحَبَّتِكَ،
wa akbit-hu biduʾūbinā fī maḥabbatika
throw him down through our perseverance in Thy love,
وَاجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُ سِتْراً لاَ يَهْتِكُهُ،
waajʿal baynana wa baynahu sitran la yaḥtikuhu
and place between him and us a covering that he cannot tear away
وَرَدْماً مُصْمِتاً لا يَفْتُقُهُ.
waradmā musmitan lā yafthuquhu
and a solid barrier that he cannot cut through!
أللَّهُمَّ صَـلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَاشْغَلْهُ عَنَّا بِبَعْضِ أَعْدَائِكَ،
waashghalhu 'annaa biba'đi 'a'daa'ika
distract Satan from us with some of Thy enemies,
وَاعْصِمْنَا مِنْهُ بِحُسْنِ رِعَايَتِكَ، وَاكْفِنَا خَتْرَهُ،
waʿṣimnā minhu biḥusni riʿāyatika, wākfinā khatrah
preserve us from him through Thy good guarding, spare us his treachery,
وَوَلِّنَا ظَهْرَهُ، وَاقْطَعْ عَنَّا إثْرَهُ.
wa wallinā ẓahrahū, waqṭaʿ ʿannā iṯrahū
turn his back toward us, and cut off from us his trace!
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَأَمْتِعْنَا مِنَ الْهُدَى، بِمِثْلِ ضَلاَلَتِهِ،
wa-amtiʿna min al-hudā, bimithli ḍalālatihi.
give us to enjoy guidance the like of his misguidance,
وَزَوِّدْنَا مِنَ التَّقْوَى ضِدَّ غَوَايَتِهِ،
wa zawwiddnā mina al-taqwá ḍidda ghawāyatihi
increase us in piety against his seduction,
وَاسْلُكْ بِنَـا مِنَ التُّقى خِـلافَ سَبِيلِهِ مِنَ الـرَّدى.
wasluk binā mina al-taqwá khilāfa sabīlihi mina al-raddā
and make us walk in reverential fear contrary to his path of ruin!
أللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَجْعَلْ لَهُ فِي قُلُوبِنَا مَدْخَلاً
allāhumma lā tajʿal lahū fī qulūbinā madkhalan
O God, assign him no place of entrance into our hearts
وَلاَ تُوطِنَنَّ لَهُ فِيمَا لَدَيْنَا مَنْزِلاً.
walā tuṭinnan lahu fīmā ladaynā manzilan
and do not allow him to make his home in that which is with us!
اللَّهُمَّ وَمَا سَوَّلَ لَنَا مِنْ بَاطِل فَعَرِّفْنَاهُ
allāhumma wamā sawwala lanā min bāṭil faʿarrisnāhu
O God, cause us to recognize the falsehood with which he tempts us,
وَإذَا عَرَّفْتَنَاهُ فَقِنَاهُ، وَبَصِّرْنَا مَا نُكَايِدُهُ بِهِ،
wa-iżā ʿarraftanāhu faqināhu, wa-baṣṣirnā mā nukāyiduhu bih
and once Thou hast caused us to recognize it, protect us from it! Make us see what will allow us to outwit him,
وَأَلْهِمْنَا مَا نُعِدُّهُ لَهُ، وَأَيْقِظْنَا عَنْ سِنَةِ الْغَفْلَةِ بِالرُّكُونِ إلَيْهِ
wa alhimnā mā nuʿidduhu lahū, wa ayyiqznā ʿan sinati al-ghaflati bi'r-rukuuni ilayhi
inspire us with all that we can make ready for him, awaken us from the heedless slumber of relying upon him,
وَأَحْسِنْ بِتَوْفِيقِكَ عَوْنَنَا عَلَيْهِ.
wa aḥsin bi tawfīqika ʿawnanā ʿalayh
and help us well, through Thy giving success, against him!
اللَّهُمَّ وَأَشْرِبْ قُلُوبَنَـا إنْكَارَ عَمَلِهِ،
allāhumma wa ashrib qulūbanā inkāra ʿamalih
O God, saturate our hearts with the rejection of his works
وَالْـطُفْ لَنَا فِي نَقضِ حِيَلِهِ.
wa al-ṭuf lanā fī naqḍi ḥīlih
and be gentle to us by destroying his stratagems!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَحَوِّلْ سُلْطَانَهُ عَنَّا،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadi wa ālihi wa ḥawwil sultānahu ʿannā
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, turn his authority away from us,
وَاقْطَعْ رَجَاءَهُ مِنَّا ، وادْرَأْه عَنِ الْوُلُوعِ بِنَا.
waqtʿ rajāʾahu minnā, wa adraʾhu ʿani al-wulūʿ bi nnā
cut off his hope from us, and keep him from craving for us!
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihī
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَاجْعَلْ آباءَنَا وَأُمَّهَاتِنَا وَأَوْلاَدَنَا وَأَهَالِينَا
wa'j'al aaba'ana wa umma'hatina wa awlaadana wa ahaleena
and place our fathers, our mothers, our children, our wives,
وَذَوِي أَرْحَامِنَا وَقَرَابَاتِنَا وَجِيْرَانَنَا
wa dhawi arḥāminā wa qarābātinā wa jīrānā
our siblings, our relatives, and the faithful among our neighbours,
مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَـاتِ مِنْهُ فِي حِرْز حَـارِز،
min al-muʾminīn wa al-muʾmināt minhu fī ḥirz ḥāriz
male and female, in a sanctuary impregnable to him,
وَحِصْن حَافِظ ، وَكَهْف مَانِع، وَألْبِسْهُمْ مِنْهُ جُنَناً وَاقِيَةً،
wa-ḥiṣn ḥāfiẓ, wa-kahf māniʿ, wa-albis-hum minhu junanā waqiyatan
a guarding fortress, a defending cave! Clothe them in shields protective against him
وَأَعْطِهِمْ عَلَيْهِ أَسْلِحَةً مَاضِيَةً
wa'ațihim ʿalayhi asliḥatan māḍiyatan
and give them arms that will cut him down!
أللَّهُمَّ وَاعْمُمْ بِذلِكَ مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالرُّبُوبِيَّةِ،
allāhumma wāʿimm bi dhālika man shahida laka bir-rubūbiyya
O God, include in that everyone who witnesses to Thee as Lord,
وَأَخْلَصَ لَكَ بِالْوَحْدَانِيَّةِ،
wa-akhlasa laka bil-wahdāniyyati
devotes himself sincerely to Thy Unity,
وَعَادَاهُ لَكَ بِحَقِيقَةِ الْعُبُودِيَّة،
wa ʿādāhu laka bi-ḥaqīqati al-ʿubūdiyyah
shows enmity toward him through the reality of servanthood,
وَاسْتَظْهَرَ بِكَ عَلَيْهِ فِي مَعْرِفَةِ الْعُلُومِ الرَّبَّانِيَّةِ.
wa astaẓhar bi-ka ʿalayhi fī maʿrifat al-ʿulūm al-rrabbāniyyah
and seeks help from Thee against him through knowledge of the divine sciences!
اللَّهُمَّ احْلُلْ مَا عَقَدَ، وَافْتقْ مَا رَتَقَ،
allāhumma ahlul mā ʿaqada, wa aftiqh mā rataqa
O God, undo what he ties, unstitch what he sews up,
وَافسَخ مَا دَبَّرَ، وَثَبِّطْهُ إذَا عَزَمَ، وَانْقُضْ مَا أَبْرَمَ.
wāfisakh mā dabbara, wa thabbithhu idhā ʿazama, wa anquḍ mā ʾabrama
dislocate what he devises, frustrate him when he makes up his mind, and destroy what he establishes!
اللَّهُمَّ وَاهْزِمْ جُنْدَهُ وَأَبْطِلْ كَيْدَهُ
allahumma wahzim jundahu wa'abtil kaydahu
O God, rout his troops, nullify his trickery,
وَاهْدِمْ كَهْفَهُ وَأَرْغِمْ أَنْفَهُ.
waahdim kahfahu wa'arghim anfahu
make his cave collapse, and rub his nose in the ground!
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا فِي نَظْم أَعْدَآئِهِ
allāhumma ijʿalnā fī naẓm aʿdāʾihi
O God, place us in the ranks of his enemies
وَاعْزِلْنَا عَنْ عِدَادِ أَوْلِيَائِهِ،
waʿzilnā ʿan ʿidādi awliyāʾihi
and remove us from the number of his friends,
لا نُطِيعُ لَهُ إذَا اسْتَهْوَانَا،
lā nuṭīʿu lahu ʾiḏā istahwānā
that we obey him not when he entices us
وَلا نَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ إذَا دَعَانَا
wa lā nastajību lahu idhā daʿānā
and answer him not when he calls to us!
نَأْمُرُ بِمُنَاوَاتِهِ مَنْ أَطَاعَ أَمْرَنَا
na'muru bimunāwātihim man 'aṭā'a amranā
We command everyone who obeys our command to be his enemy
وَنَعِظُ عَنْ مُتَابَعَتِهِ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ زَجْرَنَا.
wa naʿiẓu ʿan mutābaʿatihi mani ittabaʿa zajranā
and we admonish everyone who follows our prohibition not to follow him!
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّينَ وَسَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad khātimin-nabiyyīn wa sayyidil-mursalīn
O God, bless Muhammad the Seal of the prophets and lord of the emissaries,
وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الـطَّاهِرِينَ
wa ʿalā ʾahl baytihi al-ṭayyibīna al-ṭāhirīna
and the folk of his house, the good, the pure!
وَأَعِذْنَا وَأَهَـالِينَا وَإخْـوَانَنَا
wa'a'ithna wa'ahalina wa'ikhwananā
Give refuge to us, our families, our brothers,
وَجَمِيـعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ مِمَّا اسْتَعَذْنَا مِنْهُ،
wa jamīʿa al-muʾminīna wa al-muʾmināti mimmā istaʿaḏnā minhu
and all the faithful, male and female, from that from which we seek refuge,
وَأَجِرْنَا مِمَّا اسْتَجَرْنَا بِكَ مِنْ خَوْفِهِ
wa ajirna mimma astajarna bika min khawfihi
and grant us sanctuary from that through fear of which we seek sanctuary in Thee!
وَاسْمَعْ لَنَا مَا دَعَوْنَا بِهِ وَأَعْطِنَا مَا أَغْفَلْنَاهُ وَاحْفَظْ لَنَا مَا نَسِيْنَاهُ،
wasmaʿ lana mā daʿawnā bihī waʾaʿṭinā mā aghfalnāhu waḥfiẓ lana mā nasīnā
Hear our supplication to Thee, bestow upon us that of which we have been heedless, and safeguard for us what we have forgotten!
وَصَيِّرْنَا بِذَلِكَ فِي دَرَجَاتِ الصَّالِحِينَ
waṣayyirnā bi dhālika fī darajāt al-ṣāliḥīn
Through all this bring us into the ranks of the righteous
وَمَـرَاتِبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
wa marātib al-muʾminīn
and the degrees of the faithful!
آمينَ رَبَّ ا لْعَالَمِينَ .
ʾāmīn rabbi al-ʿālamīn
Amen, Lord of the worlds!
