When He Asked God For Well-Being
Duaa
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَأَلْبِسْنِي عَافِيَتَكَ، وَجَلِّلْنِي عَـافِيَتَكَ،
wa albisni ʿafiyyataka, wajallilni ʿafiyyataka
clothe me in Thy well-being, wrap me in Thy well-being,
وَحَصِّنِّي بِعَـافِيَتِـكَ، وَأكْـرِمْنِي بِعَافِيَتِكَ،
wa ḥassin-ni biʿāfiyatika, wa akrim-ni biʿāfiyatika
fortify me through Thy well-being, honour me with Thy well-being,
وَأغْنِنِي بِعَافِيَتِكَ، وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيَّ بِعَافِيَتِكَ،
wa-aghni-ni bi-ʿafiyatika, wa-tasaddaq ʿalayya bi-ʿafiyatika
free me from need through Thy well-being, donate to me Thy well-being,
وَهَبْ لِي عَافِيَتَكَ، وَأَفْرِشْنِي عَافِيَتَكَ،
wa hab li ʿāfiyataka, wa afrishnī ʿāfiyataka
bestow upon me Thy well-being, spread out for me Thy well-being,
وَأَصْلِحْ لِي عَافِيَتَكَ، وَلا تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ عَافِيَتِكَ
wa'aṣliḥ liya ʿāfiyatika, walā tufarriq bayni wa bayna ʿāfiyatika
set Thy well-being right for me, and separate me not from Thy well-being
فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ.
fī al-dunyā wa-l-ākhira
in this world and the next!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
وَعَافِنِي عَافِيَةً كَافِيَةً شَافِيَةً عَالِيَةً نَامِيةً،
waʿāfinī ʿāfiyatān kāfiyatān shāfiyatān ʿāliyatān nāmiyatān
and make me well with a well-being sufficient, healing, sublime, growing,
عَافِيَةً تُوَلِّدُ فِي بَدَنِي الْعَافِيَةَ،
ʿāfiyatun tuwalidu fī badanīl-ʿāfiyah
a well-being that will give birth to well-being in my body,
عَافِيَةَ الدُّنْيَا والآخِرَةِ،
ʿāfiyat ad-dunyā wal-ākhirati
a well-being in this world and the next!
وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِالصِّحَّةِ وَالأمْنِ وَالسَّلاَمَةِ فِي دِيْنِي وَبَـدَنِي،
wa-amnun ʿalayya bis-siḥḥati wal-amni was-salamati fī dīnī wa-badnī
Oblige me through health, security, and safety in my religion and body,
وَالْبَصِيرَةِ فِي قَلْبِي وَالنَّفَاذِ فِي أمُورِيْ وَالْخَشْيَةِ لَكَ،
walbaṣīrati fī qalbī, wal-nafāḏi fī umūrī, wal-khashyati laka
insight in my heart, penetration in my affairs, dread of Thee,
وَالْخَوْفِ مِنْكَ وَالْقُوَّةِ عَلَى مَا أَمَرْتَنِي بِهِ مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ
wa al-khawfi minka wa al-qūwwati ʿalā mā amartanī bihi min ṭāʿatika
fear of Thee, strength for the obedience which Thou hast commanded for me,
وَالاجْتِنَابِ لِمَـا نَهَيْتَنِي عَنْهُ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِـكَ.
wa al-ijtinābī limā nahaytanī ʿanhu min maʿṣiyatika
and avoidance of the disobedience which Thou hast prohibited for me!
أللَّهُمَّ وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِالْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ،
allāhumma wamnun ʿalayya bil-ḥajji wal-ʿumrah
O God, oblige me through the hajj, the umra,
وَزِيَارَةِ قَبْرِ رَسُولِكَ صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ
wa-ziyārati qabri rasūlika ṣalawātuka ʿalayhi
and visiting the graves of Thy Messenger (Thy blessings,
وَرَحْمَتُكَ وَبَرَكَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ،
wa raḥmatuka wa barakātuka ʿalayhi wa ʿalā ālihi
mercy, and benedictions upon him and upon his Household)
وَآلِ رَسُولِكَ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي،
wa āli rasūlika ʿalayhimu al-salāmu abadan mā abqaytanī
and the Household of Thy Messenger (upon them be peace) for as long as Thou causest me to live,
فِي عَامِي هَذَا وَفِي كُلِّ عَام،
fī ʿāmī hāḏā wa fī kulli ʿām
in this year of mine and in every year,
وَاجْعَلْ ذَلِكَ مَقْبُولاً مَشْكُوراً مَذْكُوراً لَدَيْكَ،
wa-jʿal dhālika maqbūlan mashkūran maẓkūran ladayka
and make that accepted, thanked, and mentioned before Thee
مَذْخُوراً عِنْدَكَ،
mazkhurun ʿindaka
and stored away with Thee!
وَأَنْطِقْ بِحَمْدِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَذِكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ الثَّناءِ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانِي،
wa-antiq bi-hamdika wa-shukrika wa-dhikrika wa-husni ath-thana'i 'alayk lisani
Make my tongue utter Thy praise, Thy thanksgiving, Thy remembrance, and Thy excellent laudation,
وَاشْرَحْ لِمَرَاشِدِ دِينِكَ قَلْبِي،
wa ashrah limarashidi deenika qalbi
and expand my heart toward the right goals of Thy religion!
وَأَعِذْنِي وَذُرِّيَّتِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم
wa'a'ithni wa dhurriyyati min ash-shaytanir-rajim
Give me and my progeny refuge from the accursed Satan,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ السَّامَّةِ وَالْهَامَّةِ وَالْعَامَّةِ وَاللاَّمَّةِ
wa min sharri al-sāmmati wa al-hāmmati wa al-ʿāmmati wa al-lāmmati
the evil of venomous vermin, threatening pests, swarming crowds, and evil eyes,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْطَان مَرِيد ،
wa min sharri kulli shaytanin mareed
the evil of every rebel satan (22:3),
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ سُلْطَان عَنِيد ،
wa min sharri kulli sultan ʿanid
the evil of every refractory sovereign,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ مُتْرَف حَفِيد،
wa min sharr kulli mutraf ḥafīḍ
the evil of everyone living in ease and served,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ ضَعِيف وَشَدِيد،
wa min sharr kulli ḍaʿīf wa shadīd
the evil of everyone weak or strong,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَرِيف وَوَضِيع،
wa min sharri kulli sharīf wa wadhīʿ
the evil of everyone born high or low,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ صَغِير وَكَبِير،
wa min sharri kulli sagheerin wa kabeer
the evil of everyone small or great,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ قَرِيْب وَبَعِيد،
wa min sharri kulli qareebin wa baʿeed
the evil of everyone near or far,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ مَنْ نَصَبَ لِرَسُولِكَ وَلأهْلِ بَيْتِهِ حَرْبَـاً مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالإنْسِ،
wa min sharri kulli man nasaba li rasulika wa li ahli baytih harban mina al-jinni wa al-insi
the evil of every one, jinn or man, who declares war on Thy Messenger and his Household,
وَمِنْ شَرّ كُلِّ دَابَّة أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا
wa min sharri kulli dābbah anta ākhidhun bināsiyatiha
and the evil of every crawling creature that Thou hast taken by the forelock!
إنَّكَ عَلَى صِرَاط مُسْتَقِيم.
'innaka 'ala ṣirāṭin mustaqīm
Surely Thou art on a straight path(ref.11:56).
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
وَمَنْ أَرَادَنِي بِسُوء فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَادْحَرْ عَنِّي مَكْرَهُ،
wa-man aradani bisuu fasrifhu anni wa-adhar anni makrahu
and if someone desires ill for me turn him away from me, drive away from me his deception,
وَادْرَأ عَنِّي شَرَّهُ، وَرُدَّ كَيْدَهُ فِي نَحْرِهِ،
wa-adra' anni sharrahu, wa-rudda kaydahu fi nahrihi
avert from me his evil, send his trickery back to his own throat,
وَاجْعَلْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ سَدّاً حَتَّى تُعْمِيَ عَنِّي بَصَرَهُ،
wa-j'al bayna yadayhi saddan hatta tu'miya 'anni basarahu
and place before him a barricade, so that Thou mayest blind his eyes toward me,
وَتُصِمَّ عَنْ ذِكْري سَمْعَهُ، وَتُقْفِلَ دُونَ إخْطَارِي قَلْبَهُ،
wa tusimma ʿan dhikri samʿahu, wa tuqfilu dun'a ikhtari qalbahu
deafen his ears toward my mention, lock his heart toward recalling me,
وَتُخْرِسَ عَنَي لِسَانَهُ، وَتَقْمَعَ رَأسَهُ،
wa tukhrisa ʿanay lisānahu, wa taqmaʿa raʾsahu
silence his tongue against me, restrain his head,
وَتُذِلَّ عِزَّهُ، وَتَكْسِرَ جَبَرُوتَهُ،
wa tuzillu ʿizzahu, wa takṣira jabarūtahu
abase his exaltation, break his arrogance,
وَتُذِلَّ رَقَبَتَهُ، وَتَفْسَخَ كِبْرَهُ،
wa tuzillu raqabatahu, wa tafsaḵa kibrāhu
abase his neck, disjoint his pride,
وَتُؤْمِنَنِي مِنْ جَمِيْعِ ضَرِّهِ
wa tuʾminuni min jamiʿi ḍarrihi
and make me secure from all his injury,
وَشَرِّهِ وَغَمْزِهِ وَهَمْزِهِ وَلَمْزِهِ وَحَسَدِهِ
wa sharrihi wa ghambzihi wa hamzihi wa lamzihi wa hasadihi
his evil, his slander, his backbiting, his faultfinding, his envy,
وَعَدَاوَتِهِ وَحَبَائِلِهِ وَمَصَائِدِهِ وَرَجْلِهِ وَخَيْلِهِ
waʿadāwatih waḥabāʾilihi wamaṣāʾidihi warajlihi wakhaylihi
his enmity, his snares, his traps, his foot soldiers, and his cavalry!
إنَّكَ عَزِيز قَدِيرٌ.
'innaka 'azīzun qadīrun
Surely Thou art Mighty, Powerful!
