يَا مَنْ تُحَلُّ بِهِ عُقَدُ الْمَكَارِهِ ،

yā man tuḥallu bihī ʿuqadu al-makārih

O He through whom the knots of detested things are untied!

---

وَيَا مَنْ يُفْثَأُ بِهِ حَدُّ الشَّدَائِدِ،

wayā man yufthaʾu bihi ḥaddu al-shadaʾid

O He through whom the cutting edge of hardships is blunted!

---

وَيَا مَنْ يُلْتَمَسُ مِنْهُ الْمَخْرَجُ إلَى رَوْحِ الْفَرَجِ ،

wa yā man yultamassu minhu al-makhraj ilā rūḥi al-faraj

O He from whom is begged the outlet to the freshness of relief!

---

ذَلَّتْ لِقُدْرَتِـكَ الصِّعَابُ

ḏallat li-qudratika al-ṣṣiʿāb

Intractable affairs yield to Thy power,

---

وَتَسَبَّبَتْ بِلُطْفِكَ الاسْبَابُ ،

wa tasabbabat bilutfika al-asbabu

means are made ready by Thy gentleness,

---

وَجَرى بِقُدْرَتِكَ الْقَضَاءُ

wa jarra bi-qudratika al-qada'

the decree goes into effect through Thy power,

---

وَمَضَتْ عَلَى إرَادَتِكَ الاشْياءُ ،

wa-madat ʿala irādatika al-ashyāʾu

and all things proceed according to Thy desire.

---

فَهْيَ بِمَشِيَّتِكَ دُونَ قَوْلِكَ مُؤْتَمِرَةٌ ،

fa-hiya bi-mashiyyatika duna qawlika mu'tamiratun

By Thy desire they follow Thy command without Thy word

---

وَبِإرَادَتِكَ دُونَ نَهْيِكَ مُنْزَجِرَةٌ.

wa bi-irādatika dūna nahyika munzajirah

and by Thy will they obey Thy bans without Thy prohibition.

---

أَنْتَ الْمَدْعُوُّ لِلْمُهِمَّاتِ ،

anta al-madʿū lilmuhimmāt

Thou art the supplicated in worries

---

وَأَنْتَ الْمَفزَعُ فِي الْمُلِمَّاتِ ،

wa-anta al-mafzau fi al-mulimmat

and the place of flight in misfortunes;

---

لاَيَنْدَفِعُ مِنْهَا إلاّ مَا دَفَعْتَ ،

lā yandafiʿu minha illā mā dafaʿta

none of them is repelled unless Thou repellest,

---

وَلا يَنْكَشِفُ مِنْهَا إلاّ مَا كَشَفْتَ.

walā yankašifu minhā illā mā kašafta

and none is removed unless Thou removest.

---

وَقَدْ نَزَلَ بِي يا رَبِّ مَا قَدْ تَكَأدَنيَّ ثِقْلُهُ ،

waqad nazala biyya rabbī mā qad tak'adaniyya thiqluhu

Upon me has come down, My Lord, something whose weight burdens me

---

وَأَلَمَّ بِي مَا قَدْ بَهَظَنِي حَمْلُهُ ،

wa'alamma biy mā qad bahathanī ḥamluhu

and upon me has fallen something whose carrying oppresses me.

---

وَبِقُدْرَتِكَ أَوْرَدْتَهُ عَلَيَّ

wa bi-qudratika awradtahu ʿalayya

Through Thy power Thou hast brought it down upon me

---

وَبِسُلْطَانِكَ وَجَّهْتَهُ إليَّ.

wa bisulṭānik(a) wajjah(t)a(hu) ʾilayy(a)

and through Thy authority Thou hast turned it toward me.

---

فَلاَ مُصْدِرَ لِمَا أوْرَدْتَ ،

fala musdar lima awradta

None can send away what Thou hast brought,

---

وَلاَ صَارِفَ لِمَا وَجَّهْتَ ،

wa lā ṣārifa limā wajjah-ta

none can deflect what Thou hast turned,

---

وَلاَ فَاتِحَ لِمَا أغْلَقْتَ ،

walā fātihalimā aghlaqta

none can open what Thou hast closed,

---

وَلاَ مُغْلِقَ لِمَا فَتَحْتَ ،

wa laa mughliqa lima fatahta

none can close what Thou hast opened,

---

وَلاَ مُيَسِّرَ لِمَا عَسَّرْتَ،

walā muya'ssira limā ʿassart

none can make easy what Thou hast made difficult,

---

وَلاَ نَاصِرَ لِمَنْ خَذَلْتَ

walā nāṣira liman khaḍalt

none can help him whom Thou hast abandoned.

---

فَصَلَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ ،

faṣalla ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih

So bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَافْتَحْ لِي يَا رَبِّ بَابَ الْفَرَجِ بِطَوْلِكَ ،

waftaḥ liyā, yā rabbi, bāba al-faraji biṭawlik

open for me, my Lord, the door of relief through Thy graciousness,

---

وَاكْسِرْ عَنِّيْ سُلْطَانَ الْهَمِّ بِحَوْلِكَ ،

wakssir ʿannī sultāna alhammi biḥawlika

break from me the authority of worry by Thy strength,

---

وَأَنِلْيني حُسْنَ ألنَّظَرِ فِيمَا شَكَوْتُ ،

wa'anilni husna al-naẓari fi ma shakawtu

confer the beauty of Thy gaze upon my complaint,

---

وَأذِقْنِي حَلاَوَةَ الصُّنْعِ فِيمَا سَاَلْتُ.

wa'adhiqni halawata al-sun'i feema saaltu

let me taste the sweetness of benefaction in what I ask,

---

وَهَبْ لي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً وَفَرَجاً هَنِيئاً

wa habli min ladunka rahmatan wa farajan hani'an

give me from Thyself mercy and wholesome relief,

---

وَاجْعَلْ لِي مِنْ عِنْدِكَ مَخْرَجاً وَحِيّاً.

wa-jaʾl li min ʿindika makhrajā waḥiyyā

and appoint for me from Thyself a quick way out!

---

وَلا تَشْغَلْنِي بالاهْتِمَامِ عَنْ تَعَاهُدِ فُرُوضِكَ وَاسْتِعْمَالِ سُنَّتِكَ.

wa lā tašġalnī bi-l-ahtimām ʿan taʿāhudi furūḍika wa istiʿmāli sunnatika

Distract me not through worry from observing Thy obligations and acting in accordance with Thy prescriptions.

---

فَقَدْ ضِقْتُ لِمَا نَزَلَ بِي يَا رَبِّ ذَرْعاً ،

faqad ḍiqtu limā nazala bī yā rabbidharaʿan

My capacity has been straitened, my Lord, by what has come down on me,

---

وَامْتَلاتُ بِحَمْلِ مَا حَـدَثَ عَلَيَّ هَمّاً ،

wa 'imtalat bi-ḥamli mā ḥadatha ʿalayya hammāً

and I am filled with worry by carrying what has happened to me,

---

وَأنْتَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى كَشْفِ مَا مُنِيتُ بِهِ ،

waanta alqadiru ʿala kashfi ma munitu bihi

while Thou hast power to remove what has afflicted me

---

وَدَفْعِ مَا وَقَعْتُ فِيهِ ،

wa-dafʿi mā waqaʿtu fīh

and to repel that into which I have fallen.

---

فَافْعَلْ بِي ذلِـكَ وَإنْ لَمْ أَسْتَوْجِبْهُ مِنْكَ ،

fa'fʿal biy dhālika wa'in lam astawjibhu minka

So do that for me though I merit it not from Thee,

---

يَا ذَا العَرْشِ الْعَظِيمَ.

yā dhā al-ʿarshi al-ʿaẓīm

O Possessor of the Mighty Throne!
