Duaa
أَللَّهُمَّ يَا مَنْ لا يَصِفُهُ نَعْتُ الْوَاصِفِينَ ،
allāhumma yā man lā yaṣifu-hu naʿtu al-wāṣifīn
O God, O He whom the depiction of the describers fails to describe!
وَيَا مَنْ لاَ يُجَاوِزُهُ رَجَاءُ الرَّاجِينَ ،
wa yā man lā yujāwizu-hu rajāʾu al-rājīn
O He beyond whom passes not the hope of the hopers!
وَيَا مَنْ لاَ يَضِيعُ لَدَيْهِ أَجْرُ الْمُحْسِنِينَ،
wayā man lā yaḍīʿu ladayhi ajru almuḥsinīn
O He with whom is not lost the wage of the good-doers!
وَيَا مَنْ هُوَ مُنْتَهَى خَوْفِ الْعَابِدِيْنَ،
wayā man huwa muntahā khawfi al-ʿābidīn
O He who is the ultimate object of the fear of the worshipers!
وَيَا مَنْ هُوَ غَايَةُ خَشْيَةِ الْمُتَّقِينَ.
wa yā man huwa ghāyat khawfi al-muttaqīn
O He who is the utmost limit of the dread of the godfearing!
هَذا مَقَامُ مَنْ تَدَاوَلَتْهُ أَيْدِي الذُّنُوبِ ،
hādhā maqāmu man tadāwaltahu aydī al-dhunūb
This is the station of him whom sins have passed from hand to hand.
وَقَادَتْهُ أَزِمَّةُ الْخَطَايَا ،
waqādathu ʾazimmatu al-khaṭāyā
Offenses' reins have led him on,
وَاسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِ الشَّيْطَانُ،
wa astaḥwaḏa ʿalayhi al-shayṭān
and Satan has gained mastery over him.
فَقَصَّرَ عَمَّا أَمَرْتَ بِهِ تَفْرِيطَاً،
faqassara ʿammā amarta bihī tafriṭan
He fell short of what Thou hast commanded through neglect
وَتَعَاطى مَا نَهَيْتَ عَنْهُ تَغْرِيراً،
wa taʿāṭṭā mā nahayta ʿanhū taġrīran
and he pursued what Thou hast prohibited in delusion,
كَالْجاهِلِ بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيْهِ،
ka-l-jāhili bi-qudratika ʿalayhi
like one ignorant of Thy power over him
أَوْ كَالْمُنْكِرِ فَضْلَ إحْسَانِكَ إلَيْهِ،
aw ka'l-munkiri fadla iḥsānika ilayhi
or one who denies the bounty of Thy beneficence toward him,
حَتَّى إذَا انْفَتَحَ لَهُ بَصَرُ الْهُدَى،
ḥattā ʾiḏā ʾinfataḥa lahū baṣaru l-hudā
until, when the eye of guidance was opened for him
وَتَقَشَّعَتْ عَنْهُ سَحَائِبُ الْعَمَى أَحْصَى مَا ظَلَمَ بِهِ نَفْسَهُ،
wa taqashaʿat ʿanhu sahāʾibu al-ʿamā aḥṣā mā ẓalama bihi nafsahu
and the clouds of blindness were dispelled, he reckoned that through which he had wronged himself
وَفَكَّرَ فِيمَا خَالَفَ بِهِ رَبَّهُ،
wafakkara feemaa khaalafa bihi rabbaahu
and reflected upon that in which he had opposed his Lord.
فَرَأى كَبِيْرَ عِصْيَانِهِ كَبِيْراً، وَجَلِيل مُخالفَتِهِ جَلِيْلاً،
fa ra'a kabiran ʿisyanihil kabiran, wa jalil mukhalifatihil jalilan
He saw his vast disobedience as vast and his great opposition as great.
فَأَقْبَلَ نَحْوَكَ مُؤَمِّلاً لَكَ، مُسْتَحْيِيَاً مِنْكَ،
fa'aqbal naḥwaka mu'ammilan laka mustaḥyian minka
So turned to Thee, hoping in Thee and ashamed before Thee,
وَوَجَّهَ رَغْبَتَهُ إلَيْكَ ثِقَةً بِكَ،
wa wajjah raghbatahu ilayka thiqatan bika
and he directed his beseeching toward Thee, having trust in Thee.
فَأَمَّكَ بِطَمَعِهِ يَقِيناً، وَقَصَدَكَ بِخَوْفِهِ إخْلاَصَاً،
fa'ammaka bi-tamaʿihi yaqīnan, wa-qasada-ka bi-khawfihi ikhlāṣan
He repaired to Thee in his longing with certitude and he went straight to Thee in fear with sincerity.
قَدْ خَلاَ طَمَعُهُ مِنْ كُلِّ مَطْمُوع فِيهِ غَيْرِكَ،
qad khalā ṭamahu min kulli maṭmūʿ fīhi ghayrika
His longing was devoid of every object of longing but Thee,
وَأَفْرَخَ رَوْعُهُ مِنْ كُلِّ مَحْذُور مِنْهُ سِوَاكَ،
waʾfraqa raʾʿuhu min kulli mahdhūr minhu siwāka
and his fright departed from every object of fear but Thee.
فَمَثَّلَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْـكَ مُتَضَرِّعـاً،
famaththala bayna yadayka mutadarrīʿan
So he stood before Thee pleading,
وَغَمَّضَ بَصَرَهُ إلَى الأرْضِ مُتَخَشِّعَاً،
wa ghammaða baṣarahu ilā al-arḍi mutakhshiʿan
his eyes turned toward the ground in humbleness,
وَطَأطَأَ رَأسَهُ لِعِزَّتِكَ مُتَذَلِّلاً،
waṭaʾaṭaʾa raʾsahu liʿizzatika mutadhallilan
his head bowed before Thy might in lowliness;
وَأَبَثَّكَ مِنْ سِرِّهِ مَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنْهُ خَضُوعاً،
wa 'abaththaka min sirrihi mā 'anta 'a'lamu bihi minhu khadhū'an
he revealed to Thee in meekness those secrets of his which Thou knowest better than he;
وَعَدَّدَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ مَا أَنْتَ أَحْصَى لَهَا خُشُوعاً
waʿaddada min dhunubihi mā anta aḥṣā lahā khushūʿan
he numbered for Thee in humility those sins of his which Thou countest better than he;
وَاسْتَغَاثَ بِكَ مِنْ عَظِيمِ مَاوَقَعَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِكَ
wa-istaghatha bika min ʿadheem ma waqaʿa bihi fi ʿilmika
he sought help from Thee before the dreadful into which he has fallen in Thy knowledge
وَقَبِيحِ مَا فَضَحَهُ فِي حُكْمِكَ
wa qabihi ma fadahahu fi hukmika
and the ugly which has disgraced him in Thy judgement:
مِنْ ذُنُوب أدْبَرَتْ لَذَّاتُهَا فَذَهَبَتْ،
min dhunūb adbarat ladhātuhā faḏahabat
the sins whose pleasures have turned their backs and gone
وَأَقَامَتْ تَبِعَاتُهَا فَلَزِمَتْ،
wa-aqāmat tabiʿātuha falaẓimat
and whose evil consequences have stayed and stuck fast.
لا يُنْكِرُ يَا إلهِي عَدْلَكَ إنْ عَاقَبْتَهُ،
lā yunkiru yā ilāhī ʿadlaka in ʿāqabtahu
He will not deny Thy justice, my God, if Thou punishest him,
وَلا يَسْتَعْظِمُ عَفْوَكَ إنْ عَفَوْتَ عَنْهُ وَرَحِمْتَهُ;
walā yastaʿẓimu ʿafwaka in ʿafawta ʿanhu wa raḥimtahu
nor will he consider Thy pardon great if Thou pardonest him and hast mercy upon him,
لأِنَّكَ الرَّبُّ الْكَرِيمُ
li-annaka al-rabbu al-karīmu
for Thou art the Generous Lord
الَّذِي لا يَتَعَاظَمُهُ غُفْرَانُ الذَّنْبِ الْعَظِيم.
alladhī lā yataʿāẓamuhu ghufraanu al-đẹnbi al-ʿażīm
for whom the forgiveness of great sins is nothing great!
أَللَّهُمَّ فَهَا أَنَا ذَا قَدْ جئْتُكَ مُطِيعاً
allāhumma fahā annā dhā qad ji'tuka muṭīʿan
O God, so here I am: I have come to Thee obeying Thy command
لاِمْرِكَ فِيمَا أَمَرْتَ بِهِ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ،
la-ʾimrik fīmā ʾamart bihi mina al-duʿāʾi
(for Thou hast commanded supplication)
مَتَنَجِّزاً وَعْدَكَ فِيمَا وَعَدْتَ بِهِ مِنَ الإجَابَةِ إذْ تَقُولُ
matanajjizan waʿdaka feema waʿadtaha min al-ijabahti idh taqulu
and asking the fulfilment of Thy promise, (for Thou hast promised to respond):
(اُدْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ).
(udʿūnī ʾastajib lakum)
Thou hast said, Supplicate Me and I will respond to you (40:60).
أللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma faṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālih
O God, so bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَالْقَنِي بِمَغْفِـرَتِكَ كَمَا لَقِيتُكَ بِإقْرَارِي
wa al-qani bi-maghfiratika kama laqituka bi-iqrari
meet me with Thy forgiveness just as I have met Thee with my confession,
وَارْفَعْنِي عَنْ مَصَارعِ الذُّنُوبِ كَمَا وَضَعْتُ لَكَ نَفْسِي
wa arfaʿnī ʿan maṣāriʿi al-ḏunūb kamā waḍaʿtuka nafsī
lift me up from the fatal infirmities of sins just as I have let myself down before Thee,
وَاسْتُرْنِي بِسِتْرِكَ كَمَا تَأَنَّيْتَنِي عَنِ الانْتِقَامِ مِنِّي.
wa-isturni bi-sitrika kama ta'anaytani 'anil intiqami minni
and cover me with Thy covering just as Thou hast shown no haste to take vengeance on me!
أللَّهُمَّ وَثَبِّتْ فِي طَاعَتِكَ نِيَّتِيْ،
allāhumma wathabbit fī ṭāʿatika niyyatī
O God, make firm my intention to obey Thee,
وَأَحْكِمْ فِي عِبَادَتِكَ بَصِيـرَتِي،
wa aḥkim fī ʿibādatika baṣīratī
strengthen my insight in worshipping Thee,
وَوَفِّقْنِي مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ
wa waffiqnī min al-aʿmālِ
give me the success of works
لِمَا تَغْسِلُ بِهِ دَنَسَ الخَطَايَا عَنِّي،
lima taghsilu bihi danasa al-khataaya anni
which will wash away the defilement of offenses,
وَتَوَفَّنِي عَلَى مِلَّتِكَ وَمِلَّةِ نَبِيِّكَ
wa tawaffanī ʿalā millatika wa millati nabiyyika
and take me when Thou takest me in the creed of Thy prophet
مُحَمَّد عَلَيْهِ السَّـلامُ إذَا تَوَفَّيْتَنِي.
muḥammad ʿalayhi as-salāmu ʾidhā tawaffaytanī
Muhammad (upon him be peace).
أللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَتُوبُ إلَيْـكَ فِي مَقَامِي هَذَا
allāhumma innī atūbu ilayka fī maqāmī hādhā
O God, I repent to Thee in this my station from
مِنْ كَبَائِرِ ذُنُوبِي وَصَغَائِرِهَا
min kabā'iri dhunūbī wa ṣaghā'irihā
my sins, great and small,
وَبَوَاطِنِ سَيِّئآتِي وَظَوَاهِرِهَا،
wa bawāṭinī sayyiāti wa ẓawāhirihā
my evil deeds, inward and outward,
وَسَوالِفِ زَلاَّتِي وَحَوَادِثِهَا،
wasawālifi zalātī waḥawādithihā
my lapses, past and recent,
تَوْبَةَ مَنْ لا يُحَدِّثُ نَفْسَهُ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ
tawbatu man la yuḥaddithu nafsahu bimaʿsiyah
with the repentance of one who does not tell himself that he might disobey
وَلاَ يُضْمِرُ أَنْ يَعُودَ فِي خَطِيئَةٍ،
wala yudmiru an ya'uda fi khatiyatin
or secretly think that he might return to an offense.
وَقَدْ قُلْتَ يَا إلهِي فِي مُحْكَمِ كِتابِكَ
waqad qultaya ʾilahiyafī muḥkami kitābik
Thou hast said, my God, in the firm text of Thy Book,
إنَّكَ تَقْبَلُ التَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِكَ،
'innaka taqbalu at-tawbata 'an 'ibadika
that Thou 'acceptest repentance from Thy servants,
وَتَعْفُو عَنِ السَّيِّئاتِ، وَتُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ،
wa taʿfu ʿani al-sayyi'at wa tuḥibbu al-tawwabīn
pardonest evil deeds' (ref.42:25), and lovest the repenters (ref.2:222),
فَاقْبَلْ تَوْبَتِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَ وَأعْفُ عَنْ سَيِّئاتِي كَمَا ضَمِنْتَ،
faqbal tawbati kama waʿadtawaʾfu ʿan sayyiati kama ḍamint
so accept my repentance as Thou hast promised, pardon my evil deeds as thou hast guaranteed,
وَأَوْجِبْ لِي مَحَبَّتَكَ كَمَا شَـرَطْتَ،
waʾawjib li mahabbataka kama sharatt
and make obligatory toward me Thy love as Thou hast stipulated!
وَلَـكَ يَـا رَبِّ شَـرْطِي أَلاّ أَعُودَ فِي مَكْرُوهِكَ،
wa laka yā rabbī sharṭī alā aʿūda fī makrūhik
To Thee, my Lord, belongs my stipulation that I will not return to what is disliked by Thee,
وَضَمَانِي أَلاّ أَرْجِعَ فِي مَذْمُومِكَ،
waḍamānī allā ʾarjiʿa fī maḏmūmika
my guarantee that I will not go back to what Thou blamest,
وَعَهْدِي أَنْ أَهْجُرَ جَمِيعَ مَعَاصِيكَ.
waʿahdi an ahjura jamiʿa maʿasiyika
and my covenant that I will stay away from acts of disobedience to Thee.
أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا عَمِلْتُ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا عَلِمْتَ،
allāhumma innaka aʿlamu bimā ʿamiltu faghfir lī mā ʿalimta
O God, Thou knowest better what I have done, so forgive me what Thou knowest
وَاصْرِفْنِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ إلَى مَا أَحْبَبْتَ.
waṣrifnī biqudratika ilā mā aḥbabta
and turn me through Thy power to what Thou lovest!
أللَّهُمَّ وَعَلَيَّ تَبِعَاتٌ قَدْ حَفِظْتُهُنَّ،
allāhumma wa ʿalayya tabiʿātun qad ḥafiztu hunna
O God, counted against me are claims that stay in my memory
وَتَبِعَاتٌ قَدْ نَسيتُهُنَّ،
wa tabiʿātun qad nasytuhunna
and claims that I have forgotten,
وَكُلُّهُنَّ بِعَيْنِكَ الَّتِي لاَ تَنَـامُ،
wa kulluhun bi'aynik allati la tanam
while all of them remain in Thy eye that does not sleep
وَعِلْمِكَ الَّذِي لا يَنْسَى
wa ʿilmika alladhī lā yansā
and Thy knowledge that does not forget!
فَعَوِّضْ مِنْهَا أَهْلَهَا وَاحْطُطْ عَنّي وِزْرَهَا،
faʿawwidh minhā ahlahā wa-aḥtuṭ ḥannī wizrahā
So compensate their owners, lighten their load upon me,
وَخَفِّفْ عَنِّي ثِقْلَهَا، وَاعْصِمْنِي مِنْ أَنْ اُقَارِفَ مِثْلَهَا.
wa khaffif ʿanni thiqlahā, waʾaṣimnī min an uqārifamithlahā
lift up their weight from me, and preserve me from approaching their like!
أللَّهُمَّ وَإنَّهُ لاَ وَفَاءَ لِي بِالتَّوْبَةِ إلاَّ بِعِصْمَتِكَ،
allāhumma wa innahu lā wafā'a li bi-tawbah illā bi-ʿismatika
O God, but I can not be faithful to my repentance without Thy preservation,
وَلا اسْتِمْسَاكَ بِي عَنِ الْخَطَايَا إلاَّ عَنْ قُوَّتِكَ،
walā istim'sāka bī ʿani al-khaṭāyā illā ʿan qawwatika
nor can I refrain from offenses without Thy strength.
فَقَوِّنِي بِقُوَّة كَافِيَة، وَتَوَلَّنِي بِعِصْمَة مَانِعَة.
faqawwinī biqūwata kāfiyah, wa tawallanī biʿismah māniʿah
So strengthen me with a sufficient strength and attend to me with a defending preservation!
أللَّهُمَّ أَيُّما عَبْد تَابَ إلَيْكَ
allāhumma ayyuma ʿabdin tāba ilayk
O God, if any servant repents to Thee,
وَهُوَ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ فَاسِخٌ لِتَوْبَتِهِ
wa huwa fi ʿilmi al-ghaybi ʿindaka fāsikhun li-tawbatihi
while in Thy knowledge of the Unseen he will break his repentance
وَعَائِدٌ فِي ذَنْبِهِ وَخَطِيئَتِهِ
waʿāʾidun fī dhambihi wa khateeʾatih
and return to his sin and offense,
فَإنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أنْ أَكُوْنَ كَذلِكَ،
fa inni aʿūdhu bika an akūna kadhalik
I seek refuge in Thee lest I be like that!
فَاجْعَلْ تَوْبَتِي هَذِهِ تَوْبَةً لا أَحْتَاجُ بَعْدَهَا إلَى تَوْبَة،
fajʿal tawbati hadhihi tawbatan la ahtaju baʿdaha ila tawbah
So make this my repentance a repentance after which I will need no repentance
تَوْبَةً مُوجِبَةً لِمَحْوِ مَا سَلَفَ، وَالسَّلاَمَةِ فِيمَـا بَقِيَ.
tawbatun mu'jibatun li mahwi ma salafa, wa al-salamati fi ma baqiya
and a repentance which will obligate the erasing of what has gone by and safety in what remains!
أللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَعْتَـذِرُ إلَيْـكَ مِنْ جَهْلِي،
allāhumma innī aʿtaḏiru ilayka min jahlī
O God, I ask pardon from Thee for my ignorance,
وَأَسْتَـوْهِبُـكَ سُوْءَ فِعْلِي،
wa-astawhibuka suu'a fi'liyyi
and I ask Thee to disregard my evil acts!
فَـاضْمُمْنِي إلَى كَنَفِ رَحْمَتِكَ تَطَوُّلاً،
faẓmumnee ilaa kanafi rahmatika taṭawwulan
So join me to the shelter of Thy mercy through graciousness
وَاسْتُرْنِي بِسِتْرِ عَافِيَتِكَ تَفَضُّلاً.
wa asturni bisitr 'afiyatika tafaddulan
and cover me with the covering of Thy well-being through bounteousness!
أللَّهُمَّ وَإنِّي أَتُوبُ إلَيْكَ
allāhumma wa innī atūbu ilayka
O God, I repent to Thee
مِنْ كُلِّ مَا خَالَفَ إرَادَتَكَ
min kulli ma khalafa iradataka
from everything opposed to Thy will
أَوْ زَالَ عَنْ مَحَبَّتِـكَ
ʾaw zāla ʿan maḥabbatika
or far from Thy love -
مِنْ خَـطَرَاتِ قَلْبِي
min khaṭarāti qalbī
the thoughts of my heart,
وَلَحَـظَاتِ عَيْنِي
walahaẓāti ʿaynī
the glances of my eye,
وَحِكَايَاتِ لِسَانِي،
wa ḥikāyāt li-sānī
the tales of my tongue -
تَوْبَةً تَسْلَمُ بِهَا كُلُّ جَارِحَة عَلَى حِيَالِهَا مِنْ تَبِعَاتِكَ،
tawbatan taslamu biha kullu jarīhah ʿalā ḥiyālihā min tabiʿātika
with a repentance through which each bodily part will by itself stay safe from ill consequences with Thee
وَتَأْمَنُ مِمَّا يَخَافُ الْمُعْتَدُونَ مِنْ أَلِيْمِ سَطَوَاتِكَ.
wa ta'manu mimma yakhafu almu'tadun min 'aleemi satawatak
and remain secure from Thy painful penalties feared by transgressors!
أَللَّهُمَّ فَارْحَمْ وَحْدَتِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ،
allāhumma fārham waḥdatī bayna yadayka
O God, so have mercy on my being alone before Thee,
وَوَجِيبَ قَلْبِي مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ،
wa wajība qalbī min khashyatika
the pounding of my heart in dread of Thee,
وَاضْطِرَابَ أَرْكَانِي مِنْ هَيْبَتِكَ،
waḍṭirāba arkānī min haybatika
the trembling of my limbs in awe of Thee!
فَقَدْ أَقَامَتْنِي يَا رَبِّ ذُنُوبِي مَقَامَ الْخِزْيِ بِفِنَائِكَ،
faqad aqamatanee ya rabbi dhunoo-bee maqama al-khiz-y bi finaa-ika
My sins, my God, have stood me in the station of degradation in Thy courtyard.
فَإنْ سَكَتُّ لَمْ يَنْطِقْ عَنِّي أَحَدٌ،
fa'in sakti lam yantiq 'anni ahadun
If I remain silent, none will speak for me;
وَإنْ شَفَعْتُ فَلَسْتُ بِأَهْلِ الشَّفَاعَةِ.
wa-in shafaʿtu, falastu bi-ahli ash-shafaʿah
if I seek an intercessor, I am not worthy for intercession.
أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَشَفِّعْ فِي خَطَايَـايَ كَرَمَكَ،
wa shaffiʿ fi khaṭāyāya karamak
make Thy generosity intercede for my offenses,
وَعُدْ عَلَى سَيِّئاتِي بِعَفْوِكَ،
waʿud ʿalā sayyiātī biʿafwik
follow up my evil deeds with Thy pardon,
وَلاَ تَجْزِنِي جَزَآئِي مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ
wa lā tajzīnī jazāʾī min ʿuqūbatik
repay me not with the punishment that is my proper repayment,
وَابْسُطْ عَلَيَّ طَوْلَكَ وَجَلِّلْنِي بِسِتْرِكَ،
wa-apsuṭ ʿalayya ṭawlika wa-jallilnī bisitrika
spread over me Thy graciousness, wrap me in Thy covering,
وَافْعَلْ بِي فِعْلَ عَزِيز تَضَرَّع إلَيْهِ عَبْدٌ ذَلِيلٌ فَرَحِمَهُ،
wafʿal biyyi fiʿla ʿazīz tadarraʿa ilayhi ʿabdu dhaleelun farahimahu
and do with me what is done by a mighty man, when a lowly slave pleads to him and he shows him mercy,
أَوْ غَنِيٍّ تَعَرَّضَ لَهُ عَبْدٌ فَقِيرٌ فَنَعَشَهُ.
aw ghaniyyin taʿarradha lahu ʿabdun faqirun fanʿashahu
or a rich man, when a poor slave submits himself and he raises him to wealth!
أللَّهُمَّ لاَ خَفِيرَ لِي مِنْكَ فَلْيَخْفُرْنِيْ عِزُّكَ،
allāhumma lā khafīra lī minka falyakhfurnī ʿizzuka
O God, I have no protector against Thee, so let Thy might be my protector!
وَلا شَفِيعَ لِيْ إلَيْكَ فَلْيَشْفَعْ لِي فَضْلُكَ،
wa lā shafīʿa lī ʾilayka falyashfaʿ lī faḍluka
I have no intercessor with Thee, so let Thy bounty be my intercessor!
وَقَدْ أَوْجَلَتْنِي خَطَايَايَ فَلْيُؤْمِنِّي عَفْوُكَ،
wa qad awjalatnī khaṭāyāy fa-lyuʾminnī ʿafwuk
My offenses have set me quaking, so let Thy pardon give me security!
فَمَا كُلُّ مَا نَطَقْتُ بِهِ عَنْ جَهْل مِنِّي بِسُوْءِ أَثَرِي،
famā kullu mā naṭaqtu bihī ʿan jahl minnī bisūʾi atharī
Not all that I have said rises up from my ignorance of my evil footsteps
وَلاَ نِسيَان لِمَا سَبَقَ مِنْ ذَمِيمِ فِعْلِي،
walā nisyān limā sabqa min ḏamīm fiʿlī
or forgetfulness of my blameworthy acts in the past,
وَلكِنْ لِتَسْمَعَ سَمَاؤُكَ وَمَنْ فِيْهَـا،
walakin litasmaʿa samāʾuka wa-man fīhā
but in order that Thy heaven and those within it
وَأَرْضُكَ وَمَنْ عَلَيْهَا مَا أَظْهَرْتُ لَكَ مِنَ النَّدَمِ،
wa-arḍuka wa-man ʿalayhā mā aẓhar-tu laka minan-nadam
and Thy earth and those upon it may hear the remorse which I have professed to Thee
وَلَجَـأتُ إلَيْكَ فِيـهِ مِنَ التَّوْبَـةِ،
walajaʾtu ʾilayka fiihi mina l-tawba
and the repentance through which I have sought asylum with Thee.
فَلَعَـلَّ بَعْضَهُمْ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَرْحَمُنِي لِسُوءِ مَوْقِفِي،
falaʿalla baʿḍahum birahmatika yarhamunī lisuʾi mawqifī
Then perhaps one of them, through Thy mercy, may show mercy upon my evil situation
أَوْ تُدْرِكُهُ الرِّقَّةُ عَلَىَّ لِسُوءِ حَالِي
aw tudrikuhu ar-riqqaẗu ʿalayya li-suʾi ḥālī
or be seized by tenderness for my evil state.
فَيَنَالَنِي مِنْهُ بِدَعْوَةٍ أَسْمَعُ لَدَيْكَ مِنْ دُعَائِي،
fayanālanī minhu bidʿawatin asmāʿu ladayka min duʿāʾī
There may come from him for my sake a supplication to which Thou givest ear more than to my supplication
أَوْ شَفَاعَـةٍ أَوْكَدُ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَفَاعَتِي
aw shafaʿatin awkadu ʿindaka min shafaʿati
or an intercession surer with Thee than my intercession
تَكُونُ بِهَا نَجَاتِي مِنْ غَضَبِكَ وَفَوْزَتِي بِرضَاكَ.
takūnu bihā najātī min ghaḍabika wa fawzatī biriḍāk
through which I may be delivered from Thy wrath and attain to Thy good pleasure!
أللَّهُمَّ إنْ يَكُنِ النَّدَمُ تَوْبَةً إلَيْكَ فَأَنَا أَنْدَمُ اْلنَّادِمِينَ،
allāhumma in yakuni an-nadamu tawbatan ilayka fa-anā andamu al-nādimīna
O God, if remorse is a repentance toward Thee, then I am the most remorseful of the remorseful!
وَإنْ يَكُنِ التَّرْكُ لِمَعْصِيَتِكَ إنَابَةً فَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُنِيبينَ،
wa in yakin al-turku limaʿṣiyatika inābatan fa-anā awwalu al-munībīn
If refraining from disobedience is a turning back to Thee, then I am the first of those who turn back!
وَإنْ يَكُنِ الاسْتِغْفَارُ حِطَّةً لِلذُّنُوبِ فَإنَي لَكَ مِنَ الْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ.
wa in yakun al-istighfāru ḥiṭṭah li-l-ḏunūbi fa-ʾinnī laka mina l-mustaghfirīn
If praying for forgiveness alleviates sins, surely I am one of those who pray for Thy forgiveness!
اللَّهُمَّ فَكَمَا أَمَرْتَ بِالتَّوْبَةِ وَضَمِنْتَ الْقَبُولَ
allāhumma fakamā amarta bi-t-tawbah waḍaminta-l-qabūla
O God, as Thou hast commanded repentance and guaranteed acceptance,
وَحَثَثْتَ عَلَى الدُّعَـاءِ وَوَعَدْتَ الإجَابَةَ،
wa-haththatha ʿala ad-duʿa'i wa-waʿadtal-ijābah
as Thou hast urged supplication, and promised to respond,
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ وَآلِهِ وَاقْبَلْ تَوْبَتِي
faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī wa aqbal tawbatī
so also bless Muhammad and his Household, accept my repentance,
وَلاَ تَرْجِعْني مَرجَعَ الخَيبَةِ منْ رَحْمَتِك
wa lā tarjīʿnī marjaʿa al-khaybah min raḥmatik
and return me not to the returning place of disappointment in Thy mercy!
إنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ عَلَى الْمُذْنِبِينَ،
innak anta at-tawwābu ʿalā al-mudhnibīn
Surely Thou art Ever-turning (2:128) toward the sinners,
وَالرَّحِيمُ لِلْخَاطِئِينَ الْمُنِيبِينَ.
wa al-raḥīmu li-l-khāṭiʾīna al-munībīna
All-compassionate (2:128) toward the offenders who turn back!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ كَمَا هَدَيْتَنَا بِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī kamā hadaytanā bihī
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household just as Thou hast guided us by him!
وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ كَمَا اسْتَنْقَذْتَنَا بِهِ،
wa ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī kamā istanqaẓtanā bihi
Bless Muhammad and his Household just as Thou hast rescued us through him!
وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
waṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi.
Bless Muhammad and his Household,
صَلاَةً تَشْفَعُ لَنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَوْمَ الْفَاقَةِ إلَيْكَ،
ṣalātan tashfaʿu lanā yawm al-qiyāmati wa yawm al-fāqati ilayka
with a blessing that will intercede for us on the Day of Resurrection, the day of neediness toward Thee!
إنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ وَهُوَ عَلَيْكَ يَسِيرٌ .
ʾinnaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr wa huwa ʿalayka yasīr
Thou art powerful over everything (3:26), and that is easy for Thee!
