Duaa
الْحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.
al-ḥamdu lillāh rabbi al-ʿālamīn
Praise belongs to God, Lord of the worlds (1:2)!
أللَّهُمَّ لَـكَ الْحَمْدُ بَدِيْعَ السَّموَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ،
allahumma laka alhamdu badi' al-samawati wa al-ard
O God, to Thee belongs praise! Originator of the heavens and the earth!
ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإكْرَامِ،
dhā al-jalāli wal-ikrām
Possessor of majesty and munificence!
رَبَّ الاَرْبَابِ وَإلهَ كُلِّ مَألُوه،
rabb al-arbāb wa-ilāh kulli maʾaluh
Lord of lords! Object of worship of every worshiper!
وَخَالِقَ كُلِّ مَخْلُوق،
wa khāliqa kulli makhlooq
Creator of every creature!
وَوَارِثَ كُلِّ شَيْء، لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَـيْءٌ،
wa waritha kulli shay'in, laysa kamithlihi shay'un
Inheritor of all things! There is nothing like Him (42:11),
وَلا يَعْزُبُ عَنْهُ عِلْمُ شَيْء،
wa lā yaʿzubu ʿanhu ʿilmu shayʾ
knowledge of nothing escapes Him,
وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْء مُحِيطٌ،
wa huwa bikulli shay'in muheetun
He encompasses everything (41:54),
وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء رَقِيبٌ،
wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in raqīb
and He is watchful over everything (ref.33:52).
أَنْتَ الله لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ الاَحَـدُ الْمُتَوَحِّدُ الْفَرْدُ الْمُتَفَرِّدُ،
'anta allāh lā ilāha illā 'anta al-'aḥadu al-mutawaḥḥidu al-fard al-mutafarridu
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the Unique, the Alone, the Single, the Isolated.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ الْكَرِيمُ الْمُتَكَرِّمُ،
wa anta allāhu lā ilāha illā anta al-karīmu al-mutakarrimu
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the Generous, the Generously Bestowing,
الْعَظِيمُ الْمُتَعَظِّمُ، الْكَبِيرُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ.
al-ʿaẓīmu al-mutaʿaẓẓimu, al-kabīru al-mutakabbiru
the All-mighty, the Mightily Exalted, the Magnificent, the Magnificently Magnified.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ العَلِيُّ الْمُتَعَالِ، الْشَدِيْدُ الْمِحَـالِ.
wa anta allah, la ilaha illa anta, al-'aliyyu al-muta'aal, al-shadiidu al-mihaal
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the All-high, the Sublimely High, the Strong in prowess (13:13).
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ الـرَّحْمنُ الرَّحِيمُ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ.
wa anta allah, la ilaha illa anta, ar-rahmanu ar-rahim, al-'alimu al-hakim
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate, the All-knowing, the All-wise.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ الْقَدِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ،
wa anta allahu la ilaha illa anta, assamīʿu al-baṣīru al-qadīmu al-khabīru
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the All-hearing, the All-seeing, the Eternal, the All-aware.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الْكَرِيمُ الاَكْرَمُ الدَّائِمُ الادْوَمُ،
wa anta allah, la ilaha illa anta, al-karim al-akram, al-daim al-adwam
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the Generous, the Most Generous, the Everlasting, the Most Everlasting.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الاوَّلُ
wa anta allah, la ilaha illa anta, al-awwal
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the First
قَبْلَ كُلِّ أَحَد وَالاخِرُ بَعْدَ كُلِّ عَدَد،
qabla kulli ahadin wa al-ākhiru baʿda kulli ʿadad
before every one, the Last after every number.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الدَّانِي فِي عُلُوِّهِ،
wa anta allahu la ilaha illa anta addani fi 'uluwwihi
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, the Close in His highness,
وَالْعَالِي فِي دُنُوِّهِ،
wal-ʿālī fī dunyāhi
the High in His closeness.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ ذُو الْبَهَاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْحَمْدِ.
wa anta allāh lā ilāha illā anta dhū al-bahā'i wal-majdi wal-kibriyā'i wal-ḥamd
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou, Possessor of radiance and glory, magnificence and praise.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأْتَ الاشْيَاءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سِنْخ،
wa-anta allāh lā ilāha illā anta al-ladhī anshata al-ashyā'a min ghayr sinakh
Thou art God, there is no god but Thou. Thou hast brought forth the things without root,
وَصَوَّرْتَ مَا صَوَّرْتَ مِنْ غَيْرِ مِثال،
wa ṣawwartama ṣawwartamin ghayri mithāl
formed what Thou hast formed without exemplar,
وَابْتَدَعْتَ الْمُبْتَدَعَاتِ بِلاَ احْتِذَآء.
wa ibtadat al-mubtadaʿat bi-lā ihtidhāʾ
and originated the originated things without limitation.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي قَدَّرْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء تَقْدِيراً
'anta alladhi qaddarta kulla shay'in taqdiran
It is Thou who hast ordained each thing with an ordination,
وَيَسَّرْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء تَيْسِيراً،
wayassart(a) kulla shay'in taysira(n)
eased each thing with an easing,
وَدَبَّرْتَ مَا دُونَكَ تَدْبِيْراً.
wadabbar-ta mā doonaka tadbeeran
and governed everything below Thyself with a governing.
وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُعِنْكَ عَلَى خَلْقِكَ شَرِيكٌ
wa anta allathi lam yuinaka ala khalqika shariqun
It is Thou whom no associate helps with Thy creation
وَلَمْ يُؤازِرْكَ فِي أَمْرِكَ وَزِيرٌ،
walam yuʾāzirka fī amrika wazīrun
and no vizier aids in Thy command.
وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ مُشَاهِدٌ وَلا نَظِيرٌ.
wa lam yakun laka mushahidun wala nathirun
Thou hast no witness and no equal.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَرَدْتَ فَكَانَ حَتْماً مَا أَرَدْتَ،
'anta alladhī aradta fakāna ḥatman mā aradta
It is Thou who willed, and what Thou willed was unfailing,
وَقَضَيْتَ فَكَانَ عَدْلاً مَا قَضَيْتَ،
waqaḍayta fakāna ʿadlan mā qaḍayta
who decreed, and what Thou decreed was just,
وَحَكَمْتَ فَكَانَ نِصْفاً مَا حَكَمْتَ،
waḥakamta fakana niṣfan mā ḥakamta
who decided, and what Thou decided was fair.
أَنْتَ الَّـذِي لا يَحْوِيْـكَ مَكَانٌ
anta alladhi la yahwik maakan
It is Thou whom place does not contain,
وَلَمْ يَقُمْ لِسُلْطَانِكَ سُلْطَانٌ،
walam yaqum lisultanika sultanun
before whose authority no authority stands up,
وَلَمْ يُعْيِكَ بُرْهَانٌ وَلا بَيَانٌ.
walam yuʿyika burhanun wala bayanun
and whom no proof or explication can thwart.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَحْصَيْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء عَدَدَاً،
'anta alladhi 'ahsayta kulla shay'in 'adada
It is Thou who hast counted everything in numbers,
وَجَعَلْتَ لِكُلِّ شَيْء أَمَداً،
wa jaʿalta likulli shay'in amadan
appointed for everything a term,
وَقَدَّرْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء تَقْدِيْراً.
wa qaddarta kulla shay'in taqdeeran
and ordained everything with an ordination.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي قَصُرَتِ الاوْهَامُ عَنْ ذَاتِيَّتِكَ،
'anta alladhī qasurat al-awhāmu 'an dhātiyyatika
It is Thou before whose selfness imaginations fall short,
وَعَجَزَتِ الافْهَامُ عَنْ كَيْفِيَّتِكَ ،
waʿajazati al-afhāmu ʿan kayfiyyatika
before whose howness understandings have no incapacity,
وَلَمْ تُدْرِكِ الابْصَارُ مَوْضِعَ أَيْنِيَّتِكَ.
wa lam tudrikil-absaru mawdi'a 'ayniyyatika
and the place of whose whereness eyes perceive not.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي لا تُحَدُّ فَتَكُونَ مَحْدُوداً،
'anta alladhī lā tuḥaddu fatakūna maḥdūdan
It is Thou who hast no bounds, lest Thou be bounded,
وَلَمْ تُمَثَّلْ فَتَكُونَ مَوْجُوداً،
walum tumaththal fatakoona mawjoodan
who art not exemplified, lest Thou be found,
وَلَمْ تَلِدْ فَتَكُونَ مَوْلُوداً.
walum talid fatakoonu mawloodan
who dost not beget, lest Thou be begotten.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي لا ضِدَّ مَعَكَ فَيُعَانِدَكَ،
'anta alladhī lā ḍidda ma'aka fayuʿānidaka
It is Thou with whom there is no opposite, lest it contend with Thee,
وَلا عِدْلَ فَيُكَاثِرَكَ، وَلاَ نِدَّ لَكَ فَيُعَارِضَكَ.
walā ʿidlun fayukāthiraka, walā niddun lak fayuʿāriḍaka
who hast no equal, lest it vie with Thee, who hast no rival, lest it resist Thee.
أَنْتَ الَّـذِي ابْتَدَأ وَاخْتَـرَعَ
'anta alladhi ibtada wa-ikhtara'a
It is Thou who art He who began, devised,
وَاسْتَحْدَثَ وَابْتَـدَعَ
wa-istahdatha wa'ibtada'a
brought forth, originated,
وَأَحْسَنَ صُنْعَ مَا صَنَعَ،
wa ahsana sunʿa ma sanʿa
and made well all that He made.
سُبْحانَكَ! مَا أَجَلَّ شَأنَكَ،
subḥānaka! mā ʾajalla shaʾnaka
Glory be to Thee! How majestic is Thy station!
وَأَسْنَى فِي الامَاكِنِ مَكَانَكَ،
wa asnaa fil amākin makaanaka
How high Thy place among the places!
وَأَصْدَعَ بِالْحَقِّ فُرقَانَكَ.
wa-asda'a bil-haqqi furqānaka
How cleanly Thy Separator cleaves with the truth!
سُبْحَانَكَ مِنْ لَطِيفٍ مَا أَلْطَفَكَ،
subḥānaka min laṭīfin mā alṭafaka
Glory be to Thee! The Gentle - how gentle Thou art!
وَرَؤُوفٍ مَا أَرْأَفَكَ، وَحَكِيمٍ مَا أَعْرَفَكَ!
warā'ūfin mā ar'afaka, waḥakīmin mā aʿrafaka!
The Clement - how clement Thou art! The Wise - how knowing Thou art!
سُبْحَانَكَ مِنْ مَلِيْكٍ مَا أَمْنَعَكَ،
subḥānaka min malikin mā amnaʿaka
Glory be to Thee! The King - how invincible Thou art!
وَجَوَادٍ مَا أَوْسَعَكَ، وَرَفِيعٍ مَا أَرْفَعَكَ،
wajawādin mā awsʿaka, warafīʿin mā arfaʿaka
The Munificent - how full of plenty Thou art! The Elevated - how elevated Thou art!
ذُو الْبَهاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْحَمْدِ .
dhū al-bahā'i wal-majdi wal-kibrīyā'i wal-ḥamd
Possessor of radiance and glory, magnificence and praise!
سُبْحَانَكَ بَسَطْتَ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ يَدَكَ
subḥānaka basaṭta bil-khayrāt yadaka
Glory be to Thee! Thou hast stretched forth Thy hand with good things,
وَعُرِفَتِ الْهِدَايَةُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ،
waʿurifati-l-hidāyatu min ʿindika
and from Thee guidance has come to be known,
فَمَنِ الْتَمَسَكَ لِدِينٍ أَوْ دُنْيا وَجَدَكَ.
fa mani al-tamassaka l-din aw dunya wajadaka
so he who begs from Thee religion or this world will find Thee.
سُبْحَانَكَ خَضَعَ لَكَ مَنْ جَرى فِي عِلْمِكَ،
subḥānaka khaḍaʿa laka man jarā fī ʿilmika
Glory be to Thee! Whatever passes in Thy knowledge is subjected to Thee,
وَخَشَعَ لِعَظَمَتِكَ مَا دُونَ عَرْشِكَ،
wa-khashaʿa li-ʿazhamatika mā dūna ʿarshika
all below Thy Throne are humbled before Thy mightiness,
وَانْقَادَ لِلتَّسْلِيْمِ لَكَ كُلُّ خَلْقِكَ.
wa inqaḍa li-ttaslīm lika kullu khalqika
and every one of Thy creatures follows Thee in submission.
سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ تُحَسَّ، وَلاَ تُجَسُّ، وَلاَ تُمَسُّ،
subḥānaka lā tuḥassa, wa lā tujassu, wa lā tumassu
Glory be to Thee! Thou art not sensed, nor touched, nor felt,
وَلاَ تُكَادُ، وَلاَ تُمَاطُ، وَلاَ تُنَازَعُ، وَلاَ تُجَارى،
walā tukādu, walā tumāṭu, walā tunāzaʿu, walā tujārī
nor beguiled, nor held back, nor challenged, nor kept up with,
وَلاَ تُمارى، وَلاَ تُخَادَعُ، وَلاَ تُمَاكَرُ.
wa lā tumārā, walā tu kh ādāʿu, walā tu mākāru
nor resisted, nor deceived, nor circumvented.
سُبْحَانَكَ سَبِيلُكَ جَدَدٌ، وَأَمْرُكَ رَشَدٌ، وَأَنْتَ حَيٌّ صَمَدٌ.
subḥānaka sabiluka jadadun, wa amruk rashadun, wa ʾanta ḥayyun ṣamadun
Glory be to Thee! Thy path is smooth ground, Thy command right guidance, and Thou art a living, eternal refuge.
سُبْحَانَكَ قَوْلُكَ حُكْمٌ، وَقَضَآؤُكَ حَتْمٌ، وَإرَادَتُكَ عَزْمٌ.
subḥānaka qawluka ḥukmun, wa qaḍā'uka ḥatmun, wa irādatuka ʿazmun
Glory be to Thee! Thy word is decisive, Thy decree unfailing, Thy will resolute.
سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ رَادَّ لِمَشِيَّتِكَ، وَلاَ مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِكَ.
subḥānaka lā radda li-mashiyatika wa-lā mubaddila li-kalimātika
Glory be to Thee! None can reject Thy wish, none can change Thy words.
سُبْحَانَكَ بَاهِرَ الايآتِ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ بَارِئ، النَّسَماتِ.
subḥānaka bāhiral-āyāti, fāṭiral-samāwāti bāriʾan-nasamāti
Glory be to Thee, Outdazzling in signs, Creator of the heavens, Author of the spirits!
لَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْدَاً يَدُومُ بِدَوامِكَ،
laka al-ḥamd, ḥamdan yadūmu bidāwik
To Thee belongs praise, a praise that will be permanent with Thy permanence!
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً خَالِداً بِنِعْمَتِكَ،
wa laka al-ḥamdu ḥamdan khālidan binīʿmatika
To Thee belongs praise, a praise everlasting through Thy favour!
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً يُوَازِي صُنْعَكَ،
wa laka al-ḥamdu ḥamdan yuwāzī ṣunʿaka
To Thee belongs praise, a praise that will parallel Thy benefaction!
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً يَزِيدُ عَلَى رِضَاكَ،
wa laka al-ḥamd, ḥamdān yazeedu ʿala riḍaak
To Thee belongs praise, a praise that will increase Thy good pleasure!
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً مَعَ حَمْدِ كُلِّ حَامِد،
wa laka al-ḥamd ḥamdan maʿa ḥamdi kulli hāmid
To Thee belongs praise, a praise along with the praise of every praiser
وَشُكْراً يَقْصُرُ عَنْهُ شُكْرُ كُلِّ شَاكِر،
wa shukran yaqṣuru ʿanhū shukru kulli shākir
and a thanksgiving before which falls short the thanksgiving of every thanksgiver;
حَمْداً لاَ يَنْبَغِي إلاَّ لَكَ،
ḥamdan lā yanbaghī illā lak
a praise which is suitable for none but Thee
وَلاَ يُتَقَرَّبُ بِهِ إلاَّ إلَيْكَ،
wa lā yutaqarrabu bihī illā ʾilayka
and through which nearness is sought to none but Thee;
حَمْداً يُسْتَدَامُ بِهِ الاَوَّلُ،
ḥamdan yustadāmu bihī al-awwalu
a praise which will make permanent the first [bounty]
وَيُسْتَدْعَى بِهِ دَوَامُ الاخِرِ،
wa yustadaʿā bihī dawāmu al-ākhiri
and call forth the permanence of the last;
حَمْداً يَتَضَاعَفُ عَلَى كُرُورِ الاَزْمِنَةِ،
ḥamdan yataḍāʿafu ʿalā kurūri al-azminah
a praise which will multiply through recurrence of times
وَيَتَزَايَدُ أَضْعَافَاً مُتَرَادِفَةً،
wayatazāyadu 'aḍʿāfān mutarādifatan
and increase through successive doublings;
حَمْداً يَعْجِزُ عَنْ إحْصَآئِهِ الْحَفَظَةُ،
ḥamdān yaʿjizu ʿan iḥṣāʾihi al-ḥafẓatu
a praise which the guardians will not be able to number
وَيَزِيدُ عَلَى مَا أَحْصَتْهُ فِي كِتابِكَ الْكَتَبَةُ،
wayazīdu ʿalā mā aḥṣathu fī kitābika al-katābah
and which exceeds what the writers number in Thy Book;
حَمْداً يُوازِنُ عَرْشَكَ المَجِيْدَ،
ḥamdan yuwāzinu ʿarshaka almaḥīda
a praise which will counterbalance Thy glorious Throne
وَيُعَادِلُ كُرْسِيَّكَ الرَّفِيعَ،
wayuʿādilu kursiyyaka al-rafiʿa
and equal Thy elevated Footstool;
حَمْداً يَكْمُلُ لَدَيْكَ ثَوَابُهُ،
ḥamdān yakmulu ladayka thawābuhu
a praise whose reward with Thee will be complete
وَيَسْتَغْرِقُ كُلَّ جَزَآء جَزَآؤُهُ،
wa yastaghriqu kulla jazā'in jazā'uhu
and whose recompense will comprise every recompense;
حَمْداً ظَاهِرُهُ وَفْقٌ لِبَاطِنِهِ،
ḥamdan ẓāhiruhu wafqun libāṭinihi
a praise whose outward conforms to its inward,
وَبَاطِنُهُ وَفْقٌ لِصِدْقِ النِّيَّةِِ،
wa bāṭinuhu wafqun li ṣidqi al-niyyah
and whose inward conforms to correct intention;
حَمْداً لَمْ يَحْمَدْكَ خَلْقٌ مِثْلَهُ،
ḥamdan lam yaḥmadka khalqun mithlahu
a praise with whose like no creature has praised Thee
وَلاَ يَعْرِفُ أَحَدٌ سِوَاكَ فَضْلَهُ،
walā yaʿrifu ʾaḥadun siwāka faḍlahu
and whose excellence none knows but Thou;
حَمْداً يُعَانُ مَنِ اجْتَهَدَ فِي تَعْدِيْدِهِ،
ḥamdan yuʿānu mani jtaḥada fī taʿdeedih
a praise in which he who strives to multiply Thy praise will be helped
وَيُؤَيَّدُ مَنْ أَغْرَقَ نَزْعَاً فِي تَوْفِيَتِهِ،
wa yu'ayyadu man aghraqa nazʿan fi tawfiyatihi
and he who draws the bow to the utmost in fulfilling it will be confirmed;
حَمْداً يَجْمَعُ مَا خَلَقْتَ مِنَ الْحَمْدِ،
ḥamdān yajmaʿu mā khalaqta min al-ḥamdi
a praise which will gather all the praise which Thou hast created
وَيَنْتَظِمُ مَا أَنْتَ خَالِقُهُ مِنْ بَعْدُ،
wa yantazimu ma anta khaliquhu min baʿdu
and tie together all which Thou wilt afterwards create;
حَمْداً لاَ حَمْدَ أَقْرَبُ إلَى قَوْلِكَ مِنْهُ،
ḥamdan lā ḥamda aqrabu ʾilā qawlika minhu
a praise than which no praise is nearer to Thy word
وَلاَ أَحْمَدَ مِمَّنْ يَحْمَدُكَ بِهِ،
wa lā ʾaḥmada mimmān yaḥmaduka bihī
and than which none is greater from any who praise Thee;
حَمْداً يُوجِبُ بِكَرَمِكَ الْمَزِيدَ بِوُفُورِهِ
ḥamdan yūjib bika ramika al-mazīda biwufūrihi
a praise whose fullness will obligate increase through Thy generosity
وَتَصِلُهُ بِمَزِيْد بَعْدَ مَزِيْد طَوْلاً مِنْكَ،
wa taṣiluhu bimazīd baʿda mazīd ṭawlān mink
and to which Thou wilt join increase after increase as graciousness from Thee;
حَمْداً يَجِبُ لِكَرَمِ وَجْهِكَ، وَيُقَابِلُ عِزَّ جَلاَلِكَ.
ḥamdān yajibu li-karami wajhika wa yuqābilu ʿizza jalālika
a praise that will befit the generosity of Thy face and meet the might of Thy majesty!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد
rabbī ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa āli muḥammad
My Lord, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
الْمُنْتَجَبِ، الْمُصْطَفَى،
al-muntajabi, al-mustafa
the distinguished, the chosen,
الْمُكَرَّمِ، الْمُقَرَّبِ، أَفْضَلَ صَلَوَاتِكَ،
al-mukarramī, al-muqarrabī, afḍala ṣalawātika
the honoured, the brought nigh, with the most excellent of Thy blessings,
وَبارِكْ عَلَيْهِ أَتَمَّ بَرَكاتِكَ،
wa bārik ʿalayhi atammabarakātika
benedict him with the most complete of Thy benedictions,
وَتَرَحَّمْ عَلَيْهِ أَمْتَعَ رَحَمَاتِكَ.
wa tarahham alayhi amta rahmatika
and have mercy upon him with the most enjoyable of Thy mercies!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، صَلاَةً زَاكِيَةً،
rabbī ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa-ālih, ṣalātan zākiyatān
My Lord, bless Muhammad and his Household with a fruitful blessing,
لاَ تَكُونُ صَلاَةٌ أَزْكَى مِنْهَا،
lā takūnu ṣalātun azkā minhā
more fruitful than which there is no blessing!
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً نَامِيَةً،
wa ṣalli ʿalayhi ṣalātan nāmiyatān
Bless him with a growing blessing,
لاَ تَكُونُ صَلاةٌ أَنْمَى مِنْهَا،
lā takūnu ṣalātun ʾanmā minhā
more growing than which there is no blessing!
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاةً رَاضِيَةً،
wa ṣalli ʿalayhi ṣalātan rāḍiyatan
And bless him with a pleasing blessing,
لاَ تَكُونُ صَلاةٌ فَوْقَهَا.
lā takūnu ṣalātun fawqahā
beyond which there is no blessing!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
rabbī ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
My Lord, bless Muhammad and his Household
صَلاَةً تُرْضِيهِ وَتَزِيدُ عَلَى رِضَاهُ،
ṣalātan turḍīhi wa tazīdu ʿalā riḍāh
with a blessing which will please him and increase his good pleasure!
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً تُرْضِيكَ وَتَزِيدُ عَلَى رِضَاكَ لَهُ،
wa salli ʿalayhi ṣalātan turḍīka wa tazīdu ʿalā riḍāka lah
Bless him with a blessing which will please Thee and increase Thy good pleasure toward him!
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً لاَ تَرْضَى لَهُ إلاَّ بِهَا،
wa ṣallī ʿalayhi ṣalātan lā tardhā lahū ʾillā bihā
And bless him with a blessing through other than which Thou wilt not be pleased for him,
وَلاَ تَرى غَيْرَهُ لَهَا أَهْلاً.
wa lā tará ghayrahá lahā áhlān
and for which Thou seest no one else worthy!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
rabbi ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
My Lord, bless Muhammad and his Household
صَلاَةً تُجَاوِزُ رِضْوَانَكَ، وَيَتَّصِلُ اتِّصَالُهَا بِبَقَآئِكَ،
ṣalātan tujāwizu riḍwānaka, wayattasilu attiṣāluhā bibaqā'ika
with a blessing which will pass beyond Thy good pleasure, be continuous in its continuity through Thy subsistence,
وَلاَ يَنْفَدُ كَمَا لاَ تَنْفَدُ كَلِماتُكَ.
wala yanfadu kama la tanfadu kalimatuka
and never be spent, just as Thy words will never be spent!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
rabbi ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi
My Lord, bless Muhammad and his Household
وَآلِهِ صَلاَةً تَنْتَظِمُ صَلَوَاتِ مَلائِكَتِكَ
wa ālihi ṣalātan tantaziimu ṣalawāti malā'ikatika
with a blessing which will tie together the blessings of Thy angels,
وَأَنْبِيآئِكَ وَرُسُلِكَ وَأَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ.
wa anbiyā'ika wa rusulika wa ahl ṭāʿatika
Thy prophets, Thy messengers, and those who obey Thee,
وَتَشْتَمِلُ عَلَى صَلَوَاتِ عِبَادِكَ
wa tash tamilu ʿala ṣalawāti ʿibādika
comprise the blessings of Thy servants,
مِنْ جِنّكَ وَإنْسِكَ وَأَهْلِ إجَابَتِكَ،
min jinnika wa'insika wa'ahl ijabatika
jinn or mankind, and those worthy of Thy response,
وَتَجْتَمِعُ عَلَى صَلاَةِ كُلِّ مَنْ ذَرَأْتَ وَبَرَأْتَ مِنْ أَصْنَافِ خَلْقِكَ.
wa tajtamiʿu ʿala ṣalāti kulli man dharaʾt wa barāʾta min asnāfi khalqik
and bring together the blessings of every one of the kinds of Thy creatures which Thou hast sown and authored!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
rabbi ṣalli ʿalayhi wa ālihi
My Lord, bless Muhammad and his Household
صَلاَةً تُحِيطُ بِكُلِّ صَلاَة سَالِفَة وَمُسْتَأْنَفَة،
ṣalātan tuḥīṭu bikulli ṣalātin sālifatin wa mustaʾnafah
with a blessing which will encompass every blessing, bygone and new!
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ
wa ṣalli ʿalayhi wa ʿalā ālihī
Bless him and his Household
صَلاَةً مَرْضِيَّةً لَكَ وَلِمَنْ دُونَكَ،
ṣalātan marḍiyyatan laka wa liman doonaka
with a blessing which is pleasing to Thee and everyone below Thee
وَتُنْشِئُ مَعَ ذَلِكَ صَلَوَات تُضَاعِفُ مَعَهَا تِلْكَ الصَّلَوَاتِ عِنْدَهَا،
wa tunshi'u ma'a dhalika salawat tudha'ifu ma'aha tilka as-salawat 'indaha
and will bring forth with all that a blessing with which Thou wilt multiply those blessings
وَتَزِيدُهَا عَلَى كُرُورِ الاَيَّامِ زِيَادَةً
wa tazīduhā ʿalā kurūri al-ayyām ziyādah
and increase them through the recurrence of days with an increasing
فِي تَضَاعِيفَ لاَ يَعُدُّهَا غَيْرُكَ.
fi taḍāʿīf lā yaʿudduhā ghayruka
in multiples which none can count but Thou!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى أَطَائِبِ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ
rabbī ṣalli ʿalā aṭ-ṭā'ibī ahl baytih
My Lord, bless the best of his Household,
الَّذِينَ اخْتَرْتَهُمْ لاَِمْرِكَ،
al-ladhīna akhtartahum lāmirka
those whom Thou hast chosen for Thy command,
وَجَعَلْتَهُمْ خَزَنَةَ عِلْمِكَ، وَحَفَظَةَ دِيْنِكَ،
wajaʿaltahu khazanata ʿil mika wa ḥafaza tadiynik
appointed the treasurers of Thy knowledge, the guardians of Thy religion,
وَخُلَفَآءَكَ فِي أَرْضِكَ، وَحُجَجَكَ عَلَى عِبَادِكَ،
wa khulafāʾaka fī arḍika, wa ḥujajaka ʿalā ʿibādika
Thy vicegerents in Thy earth, and Thy arguments against Thy servants,
وَطَهَّرْتَهُمْ مِنَ الرِّجْسِ وَالدَّنَسِ تَطْهِيراً بِإرَادَتِكَ،
waṭahharthum mina alrijsi wa aldanas tathhiran biiradatika
purified from uncleanness and defilement through a purification by Thy desire (ref:33:33),
وَجَعَلْتَهُمُ الْوَسِيْلَةَ إلَيْكَ وَالْمَسْلَكَ إلَى جَنَّتِكَ،
wa jaʿaltahumu al-wasīlata ilayka wal-maslaka ila jannatika
and made the mediation to Thee and the road to Thy Garden!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
rabbī ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
My Lord, bless Muhammad and his Household
صَلاةً تُجْزِلُ لَهُمْ بِهَا مِنْ نِحَلِكَ وَكَرَامَتِكَ،
ṣalātan tuǧzilu lahum bihā min niḥalika wa karāmatika
with a blessing which makes plentiful Thy gifts and generosity,
وَتُكْمِلُ لَهُمُ الاَشْيَآءَ مِنْ عَطَاياكَ وَنَوَافِلِكَ،
wa tukmilu lahumul-ashya'a min 'ataayika wanawafiliki
perfects for them Thy bestowals and awards,
وَتُوَفِّرُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْحَظَّ مِنْ عَوَائِدِكَ وَفَوائِدِكَ.
wa tuwaffiru ʿalayhimu al-ḥazza min ʿawāʾidika wa fawāʾidika
and fills out their share of Thy kindly acts and benefits!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ صَلاَةً لاَ أَمَدَ فِي أَوَّلِهَا،
rabbi ṣalli ʿalayhi wa ʿalayhim ṣalātan lā amada fī awalihā
My Lord, bless him and his Household with a blessing whose first has no term,
وَلاَ غَايَةَ لاَِمَدِهَا، وَلاَ نِهَايَةَ لاِخِرِهَا.
walā ghāyata lā madīhā, walā nihāyata li-akhirihā
whose term has no limit, and whose last has no utmost end!
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ زِنَةَ عَرْشِكَ وَمَا دُونَهُ،
rabbi ṣalli ʿalayhim zinata ʿarshika wa mā dūnah
My Lord, bless them to the weight of Thy Throne and all below it,
وَمِلءَ سَموَاتِكَ وَمَا فَوْقَهُنَّ،
wa mil'a samawātika wa mā fawqahunna
the amount that fills the heavens and all above them,
وَعَدَدَ أَرَضِيْكَ، وَمَا تَحْتَهُنَّ، وَمَا بَيْنَهُنَّ،
waʿadada arḍīka, wa mā taḥtahunna, wa mā baynahunna
the number of Thy earths and all below and between them,
صَلاَةً تُقَرِّبُهُمْ مِنْكَ زُلْفى وَتَكُونُ لَكَ وَلَهُمْ رِضَىً،
ṣalātan tuqarribuhum minka zulfa wa takūnu laka wa lahum riḍān
a blessing that will bring them near to Thee in proximity, please Thee and them,
وَمُتَّصِلَةٌ بِنَظَائِرِهِنَّ أَبَداً.
wa muttaṣilatun bi-naẓāʾirihinna abadan
and be joined to its likes forever!
أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَيَّدْتَ دِينَكَ فِي كُلِّ أَوَان
allāhumma innaka ayyadta dīnaka fī kulli awān
O God, surely Thou hast confirmed Thy religion in all times
بِإمَام أَقَمْتَهُ عَلَماً لِعِبَادِكَ وَّمَنارَاً فِي بِلاَدِكَ،
bi'imām aqamtahu 'ilman li'ibādik wa manāran fī bilādik
with an Imam whom Thou hast set up as a guidepost to Thy servants and a lighthouse in Thy lands,
بَعْدَ أَنْ وَصَلْتَ حَبْلَهُ بِحَبْلِكَ،
baʿda an waṣal-ta ḥabl-ahu bi-ḥabl-ika
after his cord has been joined to Thy cord!
وَجَعَلْتَهُ الذَّرِيعَةَ إلَى رِضْوَانِكَ،
wajaʿaltahu al-dḥariʿah illá riḍwānika
Thou hast appointed him the means to Thy good pleasure,
وَافْتَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُ، وَحَذَّرْتَ مَعْصِيَتَهُ،
wa 'if'taradta ṭāʿatahu, wa ḥaẓẓarta maʿṣīyatuhu
made obeying him obligatory, cautioned against disobeying him,
وَأَمَرْتَ بِامْتِثَالِ أوَاِمِرِه وَالانْتِهَآءِ عِنْدَ نَهْيِهِ،
wa'amarta bimtithali awamirihi wal-intihai'i 'inda nahyihi
and commanded following his commands, abandoning what he has prohibited,
وَأَلاَّ يَتَقَدَّمَهُ مُتَقَدِّمٌ، وَلاَ يَتَأَخَّرَ عَنْهُ مُتَأَخِّرٌ،فَهُوَ عِصْمَةُ اللاَّئِذِينَ
wa alā yataqaddama-hu mutaqaddimun, wa lā yataʾakhkhar ʿan-hu mutaʾakhkhirun, fahuwa ʿismatu l
and that no forward-goer go ahead of him or back-keeper keep back from him! So he is the preservation of the shelter-seekers,
، وَكَهْفُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَعُرْوَةُ الْمُتَمَسِّكِينَ، وَبَهَآءُ الْعَالَمِينَ.
wa kahfu al-mu'minīn, wa ʿurwat al-mutamassikīn, wa bahāʾu al-ʿālamīn
the cave of the faithful, the handhold of the adherents, and the radiance of the worlds!
أللَّهُمَّ فَأَوْزِعْ لِوَلِيِّكَ شُكْرَ مَا أَنْعَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ،
allāhumma fa'awzil liwaliyyika shukra mā anamta bihī alayhi
O God, so inspire Thy guardian to give thanks for that in which Thou hast favoured him,
وَأَوْزِعْنَا مِثْلَهُ فِيهِ، وَآتِهِ مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَاناً نَصِيراً،
wa ʾawziʿnā mithlahu fīh, wa ʾātihī min ladunka sulṭānan naṣīran
inspire us with the like concerning him, grant him 'an authority from Thee to help him' (ref.17:80),
وَافْتَحْ لَهُ فَتْحاً يَسِيراً، وَأَعِنْهُ بِرُكْنِكَ الاعَزِّ،
waftaḥ lahū fatḥan yasīran wa-aʿin-hu bi-ruknikal aʿazz
open for him an easy opening, aid him with Thy mightiest pillar,
وَاشْدُدْ أَزْرَهُ، وَقَوِّ عَضُدَهُ، وَرَاعِهِ بِعَيْنِكَ،
wa ashuddu azrah, wa qawwia 'adudah, wa ra'ihi bi'aynik
brace up his back, strengthen his arm, guard him with Thy eye,
وَاحْمِهِ بِحِفْظِكَ، وَانْصُرْهُ بِمَلائِكَتِكَ،
wa'aḥmih biḥifẓika, waansurhu bimala'ikatika
defend him with Thy safeguarding, help him with Thy angels,
وَامْدُدْهُ بِجُنْدِكَ الاَغْلَبِ وَأَقِمْ بِهِ كِتَابَكَ وَحُدُودَكَ،
wa-amdudhu bi-jundika al-aǧlabi wa-aqim bihi kitabaka wa-ḥududaka
and assist him with Thy most victorious troops! Through him establish Thy Book, Thy bounds,
وَشَرَائِعَكَ وَسُنَنَ رَسُولِكَ صَلَوَاتُكَ اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ،
wa sharāʾiʿaka wa sunan rasūlika ṣalawātuka allāhumma ʿalayhi wa ālihi
Thy laws, and the norms of Thy Messenger's Sunna (Thy blessings, O God, be upon him and his Household),
وَأَحْيِ بِهِ مَا أَمَاتَهُ الظَّالِمُونَ مِنْ مَعَالِمِ دِينِكَ،
wa aḥyi bihi mā amātahu aẓ-ẓālimūna min maʿālimi dīnika
bring to life the guideposts of Thy religion, deadened by the wrongdoers,
وَاجْلُ بِهِ صَدَآءَ الْجَوْرِ عَنْ طَرِيقَتِكَ،
waajlu bihi sadaa' al-jawri 'an tariqatika
burnish the rust of injustice from Thy way,
وَأَبِنْ بِهِ الضَّرَّآءَ مِنْ سَبِيلِكَ،
wa ʾabini bihi aḍ-ḍarrrā'a min sabīlika
sift the adversity from Thy road,
وَأَزِلْ بِهِ النَّاكِبِينَ عَنْ صِرَاطِكَ،
wa azil bihi annākibīna 'an ṣirātika
eliminate those who deviate from Thy path,
وَامْحَقْ بِهِ بُغَاةَ قَصْدِكَ عِوَجاً،
wamḥaq bihi bughātat qaṣdika ʿiwajā
and erase those who seek crookedness in Thy straightness!
وَأَلِنْ جَانِبَهُ لاَِوْلِيَآئِكَ، وَابْسُطْ يَدَهُ عَلَى أَعْدَائِكَ،
wa 'alin janibahu li-awliyā'ika, wa 'absut yadahu 'ala 'a'dā'ika
Make his side mild toward Thy friends, stretch forth his hand over Thy enemies,
وَهَبْ لَنا رَأْفَتَهُ وَرَحْمَتَهُ وَتَعَطُّفَهُ وَتَحَنُّنَهُ،
wahab lana ra'fatahu wa rahmatahu wa ta'attufahu wa tahannunahu
give us his clemency, his mercy, his tenderness, his sympathy,
وَاجْعَلْنَا لَهُ سَامِعِينَ مُطِيعِينَ، وَفِي رِضَاهُ سَاعِينَ،
wa-jaʿalna lahu sāmiʿīna muṭīʿīna, wa fī riḍāhu sāʿīna
and make us his hearers and obeyers, strivers toward his good pleasure,
وَإلَى نُصْرَتِهِ وَالْمُدَافَعَةِ عَنْهُ مُكْنِفِينَ،
wa-ilā nuṣratihī wal-mudāfaʿah ʿanhū muknifīn
assistants in helping him and defending him,
وَإلَيْكَ وَإلَى رَسُولِكَ صَلَواتُكَ
wa-ilayka wa-ilaa rasulika ṣalawaatuka
and brought near through that to Thee and Thy Messenger
اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ بِذَلِكَ مُتَقَرِّبِينَ.
allāhumma ʿalayhi wa ālihi bidhālika mutaqarrabīna.
(Thy blessings, O God, be upon him and his Household).
أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى أَوْلِيآئِهِمُ الْمُعْتَرِفِينَ بِمَقَامِهِمْ،
allāhumma wa ṣalli ʿalā awliyāʾihimu al-muʿtarifīna bimaqāmihim
O God, and bless the friends [of the Imams], the confessors of their station,
الْمُتَّبِعِينَ مَنْهَجَهُمْ، الْمُقْتَفِيْنَ آثَارَهُمْ،
al-mutta bi'īna manhajahum, al-muqtāfiīna āthārahum
the keepers to their course, the pursuers of their tracks,
الْمُسْتَمْسِكِينَ بِعُرْوَتِهِمْ، الْمُتَمَسِّكِينَ بِوَلاَيَتِهِمْ،
al-mustamisikiina bi-ʿurwatihim, al-mutamassikiina bi-walayatihim
the clingers to their handhold, the adherents to their guardianship,
الْمُؤْتَمِّينَ بِإمَامَتِهِمْ، الْمُسَلِّمِينَ لاَِمْرِهِمْ
al-muʾtamminan bi-imāmatihim, al-muslimīn lā ʾamrihim
the followers of their imamate, the submitters to their command,
الْمُجْتَهِدِيْنَ فِي طاعَتِهِمْ، الْمُنْتَظِرِيْنَ أَيَّامَهُمْ،
al-mujtahidīna fī ṭāʿatihim, al-muntazirīna ayyāmahum
the strivers to obey them, the awaiters of their days,
الْمَادِّينَ إلَيْهِمْ أَعْيُنَهُمْ،
al-māddīnah ilayhim aʿyunahum
the directors of their eyes toward them,
الصَّلَوَاتِ الْمُبَارَكَاتِ الزَّاكِيَاتِ النَّامِيَاتِ الغَادِيَاتِ، الرَّائِحاتِ.
al-ṣalawāt al-mubārakāt al-zākiyāt al-nāmiyāt al-ghādiyāt, al-rā'iḥāt
with blessings blessed, pure, growing, fresh, and fragrant!
وَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَعَلَى أَرْوَاحِهِمْ،
wa sallim ʿalayhim wa ʿala arwāhihim
Give them and their spirits peace,
وَاجْمَعْ عَلَى التَّقْوَى أَمْرَهُمْ،
waajmaʿ ʿalaa altaqwaa amrahum
bring together their affair in reverential fear,
وَأَصْلِحْ لَهُمْ شُؤُونَهُمْ،
wa asliḥ lahum shuʾūnahum
set right their situations,
وَتُبْ عَلَيْهِمْ
wa tub ʿalayhim
turn toward them,
إنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ وَخَيْرُ الْغَافِرِينَ،
innaka anta at-tawwabu ar-rahīmu wa khayru al-ghāfirīn
Surely Thou art Ever-turning, All-compassionate (2:128) and the Best of forgivers,
وَاجْعَلْنَا مَعَهُمْ فِي دَارِ السَّلاَمِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
wa-ijʿalna maʿahum fi daris-salam bi-rahmatika ya arhamar-rahimīn
and place us with them in the Abode of Peace, through Thy mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful!
أللَّهُمَّ هَذَا يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ،
allāhumma hādhā yawmu ʿarafah
O God, this is the Day of 'Arafa,
يَوْمٌ شَرَّفْتَهُ وَكَرَّمْتَهُ وَعَظَّمْتَهُ، نَشَرْتَ فِيهِ رَحْمَتَكَ،
yawmun sharraftahu wa karramatahu wa ʿadhdhamtahu, nashartafihi rahmatika
a day which Thou hast made noble, given honour, and magnified. Within it Thou hast spread Thy mercy,
وَمَنَنْتَ فِيهِ بِعَفْوِكَ وَأَجْزَلْتَ فِيهِ عَطِيَّتَكَ،
wa manantan fihi bi'afwik-a wa ajzalt-a fihi `atiyyatak-a
showed kindness through Thy pardon, and made plentiful Thy giving,
وَتَفَضَّلْتَ بِهِ عَلَى عِبَادِكَ.
wa tafaddal-ta bihi 'ala 'ibadik
and by it Thou hast been bounteous toward Thy servants.
أللَّهُمَّ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ الَّذِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَبْلَ خَلْقِكَ لَهُ، وَبَعْدَ خَلْقِكَ إيَّاهُ،
allahumma wa ana 'abduka alladhi an'amta 'alayhi qabla khalqika lahu, wa ba'da khalqika iyyahu
I am Thy servant whom Thou favoured before creating him and after creating him.
فَجَعَلْتَهُ مِمَّنْ هَدَيْتَهُ لِدِينِكَ،
fajaʿaltahu mimmān hadaytahu lī dīnik
Thou madest him one of those whom Thou guided to Thy religion,
وَوَفَّقْتَهُ لِحَقِّكَ، وَعَصَمْتَهُ بِحَبْلِكَ،
wa waffaqtahu lihaqqika, wa ʿasamtahu bihablika
gavest success in fulfilling Thy right, preserved through Thy cord,
وَأَدْخَلْتَهُ فِيْ حِزْبِكَ، وَأَرْشَدْتَهُ لِمُوَالاَةِ أَوْليآئِكَ،
wa adkhaltahu fi hizbika, wa arshadtahu limuwalaat al-awliyaa'ik
included within Thy party, and directed aright to befriend Thy friends
وَمُعَادَاةِ أَعْدَائِكَ، ثُمَّ أَمَرْتَهُ فَلَمْ يَأْتَمِرْ،
wa muʿādaāti aʿdāʾika, thumma amartahu falammā yatamir
and show enmity to Thine enemies. Then Thou commanded him, but he did not follow Thy commands,
وَزَجَرْتَهُ فَلَمْ يَنْزَجِرْ، وَنَهَيْتَهُ عَنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ فَخَالَفَ أَمْرَكَ إلَى نَهْيِكَ،
wa-zajartahu falam yanzajir, wa-nahaytahu ʿan maʿsiyatk, fakhalafa amrak ila nahyik
Thou restricted Him, but he did not heed Thy restrictions, Thou prohibited him from disobedience toward Thee, but he broke Thy command by doing what Thou hadst prohibited,
لاَ مُعَانَدَةً لَكَ وَلاَ اسْتِكْبَاراً عَلَيْكَ،
lā muʿānadatan laka wa lā istikbāran ʿalayk
not in contention with Thee, nor to display pride toward Thee;
بَلْ دَعَاهُ هَوَاهُ إلَى مَا زَيَّلْتَهُ، وَإلَى مَا حَذَّرْتَهُ،
bal daʿāhu hawāhu ilā mā zayyaltahu wa-ilā mā ḥaḏḏartahu
on the contrary, his caprice called him to that which Thou hadst set apart and cautioned against,
وَأَعَانَهُ عَلَى ذالِكَ عَدُوُّكَ وَعَدُوُّهُ،
wa'aʿānahū ʿalā dhālika ʿaduwwuka wa ʿaduwwuhu
and he was helped in that by Thy enemy and his enemy.
فَأَقْدَمَ عَلَيْهِ عَارِفاً بِوَعِيْدِكَ، رَاجِياً لِعَفْوِكَ،
fa'aqdamah ʿalayhi ʿaarifan bi-waʿiidika, raji'an li-ʿafwik
So he went ahead with it knowing Thy threat, hoping for Thy pardon,
وَاثِقاً بِتَجَاوُزِكَ، وَكَانَ أَحَقَّ عِبَادِكَ ـ
waāthiqan bi-tajāwuzika, wa kāna aḥaqqa ʿibādika
and relying upon Thy forbearance, though he was the most obligated of Thy servants
مَعَ مَا مَنَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ ـ أَلاَّ يَفْعَلَ،
maʿa manantan ʿalayhi, ʾalā yafʿal
- given Thy kindness toward him - not to do so.
وَهَا أَنَا ذَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ صَاغِراً،
wa-ha-a-na dhaa bayna yadayka saaghiran
Here I am, then, before Thee, despised,
ذَلِيلاً، خَاضِعَاً، خَاشِعاً، خَائِفَاً،
ẓalīlan, khāḍiʿan, khāshiʿan, khāʾifan
lowly, humble, abject, fearful,
مُعْتَرِفاً بِعَظِيم مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ تَحَمَّلْتُهُ،
muʿtarifan biʿaẓīmin mina aldhunūbi taḥammaltuhu
confessing the dreadful sins with which I am burdened
وَجَلِيْل مِنَ الْخَطَايَا اجْتَرَمْتُهُ،
wa jalil min al-khataaya ajtaramtuhu
and the great offenses that I have committed,
مُسْتَجِيراً بِصَفْحِكَ، لائِذاً بِرَحْمَتِكَ،
mustajīran bi-ṣafḥika, lā'iḏan bi-raḥmatika
seeking sanctuary in Thy forgiveness, asking shelter in Thy mercy,
مُوقِناً أَنَّهُ لاَ يُجِيرُنِي مِنْكَ مُجِيرٌ،
muqinan annahu la yujiruni minka mujeerun
and certain that no sanctuary-giver will give me sanctuary from Thee
وَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْكَ مَانِعٌ .
wa lā yamnaʿunī minka māniʿ
and no withholder will hold me back from Thee.
فَعُدْ عَلَيَّ بِمَا تَعُودُ بِهِ عَلَى مَنِ اقْتَرَفَ مِنْ تَغَمُّدِكَ،
faʿud ʿalayya bima taʿudu bihi ʿala mani iqtarafa min taghammudika
So act kindly toward me, just as Thou actest kindly by Thy shielding him who commits sins,
وَجُدْ عَلَيَّ بِمَا تَجُودُ بِهِ عَلَى مَنْ أَلْقَى بِيَدِهِ إلَيْكَ مِنْ عَفْوِكَ،
wa juud 'alayya bimā tajūdu bihī 'alā man 'alqā biyadihī 'ilayka min 'afwik
be munificent toward me, just as Thou art munificent by pardoning him who throws himself before Thee,
وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِمَا لاَ يَتَعَاظَمُكَ
wa-amnun ʿalayya bimā lā yataʿāẓamu-ka
and show kindness to me, just as it is nothing great for Thee
أَنْ تَمُنَّ بِهِ عَلَى مَنْ أَمَّلَكَ مِنْ غُفْرَانِكَ،
an tamunna bihi ʿalā man ammalaka min ghufraanika
to show kindness by forgiving him who expectantly hopes in Thee!
وَاجْعَلْ لِي فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ نَصِيباً أَنَالُ بِهِ حَظّاً مِنْ رِضْوَانِكَ،
wa-jaʿal li fī hādhā al-yawm naṣīban anālu bihi ḥaẓẓan min riḍwānik
Appoint for me in this day an allotment through which I may attain a share of Thy good pleasure,
وَلاَ تَرُدَّنِي صِفْراً مِمَّا يَنْقَلِبُ بِهِ الْمُتَعَبِّدُونَ لَكَ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ،
wa lā taruddanī ṣifran mimmā yanqalibu bihi al-mutaʿabbidūna laka min ʿibādik.
and send me not back destitute of that with which Thy worshipers return from among Thy servants!
وَإنِّي وَإنْ لَمْ أُقَدِّمْ مَا قَدَّمُوهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ،
wa-innī wa-in lam uqaddim mā qaddamūhu mina al-ṣāliḥāt
Though I have not forwarded the righteous deeds which they have forwarded,
فَقَد قَدَّمْتُ تَوْحِيدَكَ،
faqad qaddamtu tawḥīdaka
I have forwarded the profession of Thy Unity
وَنَفْيَ الاَضْدَادِ وَالاَنْدَادِ وَالاشْبَاهِ عَنْكَ،
wa nafiya al-adad wa al-andad wa al-ashbah ʿanka
and the negation from Thee of opposites, rivals, and likenesses,
وَأَتَيْتُكَ مِنَ الاَبْوَابِ الَّتِي أَمَرْتَ أَنْ تُؤْتى مِنْها،
wa ʾataytu-ka mina al-abwābi allatī ʾamarta ʾan tuʾta minhā
I have come to Thee by the gateways by which Thou hast commanded that people come,
وَتَقَرَّبْتُ إلَيْكَ بِمَا لاَ يَقْرُبُ ،
wa taqarrabtu ilayka bima la yaqrubu
and I have sought nearness to Thee through that, without seeking nearness through which,
أَحَدٌ مِنْكَ إلاَّ بِالتَّقَرُّبِ بِهِ
ʾaḥadun minka illā bit-taqarrub bih
none gains nearness to Thee.
ثُمَّ أَتْبَعْتُ ذلِكَ بِالاِنابَةِ إلَيْكَ،
thumma attabaʿtu dhalika bil-inabati ilayka
Then I followed all this with repeated turning toward Thee,
وَالتَّذَلُّلِ وَالاسْتِكَانَةِ لَكَ، وَحُسْنِ الظَّنِّ بِكَ، وَالثِّقَةِ بِمَا عِنْدَكَ،
wa al-tazallul wa al-istikānaẗi laka, wa ḥusni al-żann bi-ka, wa al-ṯiqāẗi bi-mā ʿind
lowliness and abasement before Thee, good opinion of Thee, and trust in what is with Thee;
وَشَفَعْتُهُ بِرَجآئِكَ
wa-shafaʿtuhu bi-rajāʾika
and to that I coupled hope in Thee,
الَّذِي قَلَّ مَا يَخِيبُ عَلَيْهِ رَاجِيْكَ،
al-ladhi qalla ma yakhību ʿalayhi rājīk
since the one who hopes in Thee is seldom disappointed!
وَسَأَلْتُكَ مَسْأَلَةَ الْحَقِيرِ الذّلِيلِ
wa saʾaltuka masʾalata al-ḥaqīri al-dḫalīl
I asked Thee with the asking of one vile, lowly,
الْبَائِسِ الْفَقِيْرِ الْخَائِفِ الْمُسْتَجِيرِ،
al-bāʾisi al-faqīri al-khāʾifi al-mustajīri
pitiful, poor, fearful, seeking sanctuary;
وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ خِيفَةً وَتَضَرُّعاً وَتَعَوُّذاً وَتَلَوُّذاً،
wa maʿa dhalika khīfatan wa taḍarruʿan wa taʿawwudhan wa talawwuḏan
all that in fear and pleading, seeking refuge and asking shelter,
لاَ مُسْتَطِيلاً بِتَكبُّرِ الْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ،
lā mustaṭīlan bi takabburi al-mutakabbirīn
not presumptuous through the pride of the proud,
وَلاَ مُتَعَالِياً بِدالَّةِ الْمُطِيعِينَ،
walā mutaʿālīyan bidallati al-muṭīʿīn
nor exalting myself with the boldness of the obedient,
وَلاَ مُسْتَطِيلاً بِشَفَاعَةِ الشَّافِعِينَ،
walā mustaṭīlan bi-shafāʿati sh-shāfiʿīn
nor presumptuous of the intercession of the interceders.
وَأَنَا بَعْدُ أَقَلُّ الاَقَلِّيْنَ، وَأَذَلُّ الاَذَلِّينَ،
wa ana baʿdu aqallu al-aqallin, wa adhallu al-adhallin
For I am still the least of the least and the lowliest of the lowly,
وَمِثْلُ الذَّرَّةِ أَوْ دُونَهَا.
wa mithlu aldharrati awdunaha
like a dust mote or less!
فَيَا مَنْ لَمْ يَعَاجِلِ الْمُسِيئِينَ، وَلاَ يَنْدَهُ الْمُتْرَفِينَ،
fayā man lam yaʿājili al-musīʾīna, walā yandahū al-mutrāfīna
O He who does not hurry the evildoers nor restrain those living in ease!
وَيَا مَنْ يَمُنُّ بِإقَالَةِ الْعَاثِرِينَ، وَيَتَفَضَّلُ بإنْظَارِ الْخَاطِئِينَ،
wayā man yamunnu bi-iqālati al-ʿāthirīna, wa yatafaḍḍalu bi-inẓāri al-khāṭiʾ
O He who shows kindness through releasing the stumblers and gratuitous bounty through respiting the offenders!
أَنَا الْمُسِيءُ الْمُعْتَرِفُ الْخَاطِئُ الْعَاثِرُ،
ana al-musii'u al-mu'tarifu al-khaati'u al-aathiru
I am the evildoer, the confessor, the offender, the stumbler!
أَنَا الَّذِيْ أَقْدَمَ عَلَيْكَ مُجْتَرِئاً،
ana alladhī aqdamu ʿalayka mujtarīʾan
I am he who was audacious toward Thee as one insolent!
أَنَا الَّذِي عَصَاكَ مُتَعَمِّداً،
anā alladhī ʿaṣāka mutaʿammidan
I am he who disobeyed Thee with forethought!
أَنَا الَّذِي اسْتَخْفى مِنْ عِبَادِكَ وَبَارَزَكَ،
anā alladhī astakhfā min ʿibādika wa bārazaka
I am he who hid myself from Thy servants and blatantly showed myself to Thee!
أَنَا الَّذِي هَابَ عِبَادَكَ وَأَمِنَكَ
anā alladhī hāba ʿibādaka wa aminka
I am he who was awed by Thy servants and felt secure from Thee!
أَنَا الَّذِي لَمْ يَرْهَبْ سَطْوَتَكَ وَلَمْ يَخَفْ بَأْسَكَ
anā alladhī lam yarhab saṭwatka wa lam yakhaf basaka
I am he who dreaded not Thy penalty and feared not Thy severity!
أَنَا الْجَانِي عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، أَنَا الْمُرْتَهَنُ بِبَلِيَّتِهِ،
ana al-jani `ala nafsihi, ana al-murtahanu bi-baliyyatihi
I am the offender against himself! I am the hostage to his own affliction!
الْقَلِيلُ الْحَيَاءِ، أَنَا الطَّوِيلُ الْعَنآءِ،
al-qalīlu al-ḥayāʾi, anā al-ṭawīlu al-ʿanāʾi
I am short in shame! I am long in suffering!
بِحَقِّ مَنِ انْتَجَبْتَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ،
biḥaqqi mani intajabta min khalkika
By the right of him whom Thou hast distinguished among Thy creation
وَبِمَنِ اصْطَفَيْتَهُ لِنَفْسِكَ،
wa bimani-stafaytahu li nafsika
and by him whom Thou hast chosen for Thyself!
بِحَقِّ مَنِ اخْتَرْتَ مِنْ بَريَّتِكَ، وَمَنِ اجْتَبَيْتَ لِشَأْنِكَ،
biḥaqqi mani ikhtartamin barīyatika, wa mani ijtabayta li-shaʾnik
By the right of him whom Thou hast selected from among Thy creatures and by him whom Thou hast picked for Thy task!
بِحَقِّ مَنْ وَصَلْتَ طَاعَتَهُ بِطَاعَتِكَ،
biḥaqqi man waṣaltat ṭāʿatahu biṭāʿatika
By the right of him the obeying of whom Thou hast joined to obeying Thee,
وَمَنْ جَعَلْتَ مَعْصِيَتَهُ كَمَعْصِيَتِكَ
wa-man jaʿalta maʿsiyatahu kamaʿsiyatika
and by him the disobeying of whom Thou hast made like disobeying Thee!
بِحَقِّ مَنْ قَرَنْتَ مُوَالاَتَهُ بِمُوالاتِكَ،
biḥaqqi man qaranta muwālātahu bimuwālatika
And by the right of him whose friendship Thou hast bound to Thy friendship
وَمَنْ نُطْتَ مُعَادَاتَهُ بِمُعَادَاتِكَ.
wa man nutta muʿaadatuhu bimuʿaadatika
and by him whose enmity Thou hast linked to Thine enmity!
تَغَمَّدْنِي فِي يَوْمِيَ هَذَا بِمَا تَتَغَمَّدُ بِهِ مَنْ جَارَ إلَيْكَ مُتَنَصِّلاً،
taghammadnī fī yawmiya hādhā bimā tataghammadu bihi man jāra ilayka mutanasṣilan
Shield me in this day of mine, by that through which Thou shieldest him who prays fervently to Thee while disavowing
وَعَاذَ بِاسْتِغْفَارِكَ تَائِباً،
waʿāḏa bi-istighfārika tāʾiban
and him who seeks refuge in Thy forgiveness while repenting!
وَتَوَلَّنِي بِمَا تَتَوَلَّى بِهِ أَهْلَ طَاعَتِكَ،
wa tawallanī bimā tatawallā bihi ahl ṭāʿatika
Attend to me with that through which Thou attendest to the people of obedience toward Thee,
وَالزُّلْفَى لَدَيْكَ، وَالْمَكَانَةِ مِنْكَ،
wa al-zulfā ladayka, wa al-makānatu minka
proximity to Thee, and rank with Thee!
وَتَوَحَّدْنِي بِمَا تَتَوَحَّدُ بِهِ مَنْ وَفى بِعَهْدِكَ،
wa tawaḥhadnī bimā tatawaḥhadu bihī man wafā bi'ahdika
Single me out, as Thou singlest him out who fulfils Thy covenant,
وَأَتْعَبَ نَفْسَهُ فِيْ ذَاتِكَ، وَأَجْهَدَهَا فِي مَرْضَاتِكَ،
wa-at'aba nafsahu fi dhatika, wa-ajhadaha fi marzatika
fatigues himself for Thy sake alone, and exerts himself in Thy good pleasure!
وَلاَ تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِتَفْرِيطِيْ فِي جَنْبِكَ،
walā tuʾākhidhnī bi tafritī fī janbik
Take me not to task for my neglect in respect to Thee,
وَتَعَدِّي طَوْرِيْ فِي حُدودِكَ، وَمُجَاوَزَةِ أَحْكَامِكَ.
wa taʿaddi ṭawrī fī ḥudūdika, wa mujāwazati aḥkāmika
my transgressing the limit in Thy bounds, and stepping outside Thy ordinances!
وَلاَ تَسْتَدْرِجْنِي بِإمْلائِكَ لِي
wa lā tastadrijnī bi-imlā'ika lī
Draw me not on little by little by granting me a respite,
اسْتِدْرَاجَ مَنْ مَنَعَنِي خَيْرَ مَا عِنْدَهُ،
istidrājaman manaʿanī khayra mā ʿindahu
like the drawing on little by little of him who withholds from me the good he has
وَلَمْ يَشْرَكْكَ فِي حُلُولِ نِعْمَتِهِ بِي،
walammashrakkaka fee hulooli ni'matih biy
by not sharing with Thee in letting favour down upon me!
وَنَبِّهْنِي مِنْ رَقْدَةِ الْغَافِلِينَ،
wa nabbihni min raqdah al-ghafilin
Arouse me from the sleep of the heedless,
وَسِنَةِ الْمُسْرِفِينَ، وَنَعْسَةِ الْمَخْذُولِينَ.
wa sinati al-musrifin, wa na'sati al-makhdhulīn
the slumber of the prodigal, and the dozing of the forsaken!
وَخُذْ بِقَلْبِي إلَى مَا اسْتَعْمَلْتَ بِهِ القَانِتِيْنَ،
wa khudh biqalbi ila ma astaʿmalt bihi al-qanitīn
Take my heart to that in which Thou hast employed the devout,
وَاسْتَعْبَدْتَ بِهِ الْمُتَعَبِّدِينَ، وَاسْتَنْقَذْتَ بِهِ الْمُتَهَاوِنِينَ،
wa astaʿbadta bihi al-mutaʿabbideen, wa istanqadhta bihi al-mutahawineen
enthralled the worshipers, and rescued the remiss!
وَأَعِذْنِي مِمَّا يُبَاعِدُنِي عَنْكَ،
wa'a'ithni mimma yuba'iiduni 'anka
Give me refuge from that which will keep me far from Thee,
وَيَحُولُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ حَظِّي مِنْكَ،
wayaḥūlu baynī wa bayna ḥaẓẓī minka
come between me and my share from Thee,
وَيَصُدُّنِي عَمَّا أُحَاوِلُ لَدَيْكَ.
wa yasuddunī ʿammā uḥāwilu ladayka
and bar me from that which I strive for in Thee!
وَسَهِّلْ لِي مَسْلَكَ الْخَيْرَاتِ إلَيْكَ،
wasahhil li maslakal khayrati ilayk
Make easy for me the road of good deeds toward Thee,
وَالْمُسَابَقَةِ إلَيْهَا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرْتَ،
wal-musābaqati ilayhā min ḥaythu amarta
racing to them from where Thou hast commanded,
وَالْمُشَاحَّةَ فِيهَا عَلَى مَا أَرَدْتَ.
wal-mushāḥḥata fīhā ʿalā mā aradta
and coveting them as Thou desirest!
وَلاَ تَمْحَقْنِي فِيمَنْ تَمْحَقُ مِنَ الْمُسْتَخِفِّينَ بِمَا أَوْعَدْتَ،
walā tamḥaqnī fīman tamḥaq min al-mustaḫiffīna bimā awʿadta
Efface me not along with those whom Thou effacest for thinking lightly of what Thou hast promised!
وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي مَعَ مَنْ تُهْلِكُ مِنَ الْمُتَعَرِّضِينَ لِمَقْتِكَ،
wa lā tuhliknī maʿa man tuhliku min al-mutaʿarridīna li-maqtika
Destroy me not with those whom Thou destroyest for exposing themselves to Thy hate!
وَلاَ تُتَبِّرْني فِيمَنْ تُتَبِّرُ مِنَ الْمُنْحَرِفِينَ عَنْ سُبُلِكَ.
walā tutabbirnī fīman tutabbiru minal munḥarifīna ʿan subulika
Annihilate me not among those whom Thou annihilatest for deviating from Thy roads!
وَنَجِّنِيْ مِنْ غَمَرَاتِ الْفِتْنَةِ،
wa najjinī min ghamarātil fitnah
Deliver me from the floods of trial,
وَخَلِّصْنِي مِنْ لَهَوَاتِ الْبَلْوى،
wa khal-lis-ni min lahawatil balwaa
save me from the gullets of affliction,
وَأَجِرْنِي مِنْ أَخْذِ الاِمْلاءِ،
waajirnii min akhẓi al-imlaa'i
and grant me sanctuary from being seized by respite!
وَحُلْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ عَدُوٍّ يُضِلُّنِي،
wa ḥul bayni wa bayna ʿaduwwin yuḍillunī
Come between me and the enemy who misguides me,
وَهَوىً يُوبِقُنِي، وَمَنْقَصَة تَرْهَقُنِي.
wa hawān yūbiqunī, wa manqasah tarhiqunī
the caprice which ruins me, and the failing which overcomes me!
وَلاَ تُعْرِضْ عَنِّي إعْرَاضَ مَنْ لاَ تَرْضَى عَنْهُ بَعْدَ غَضَبِكَ،
wa lā tuʿriḍ ʿannī iʿrāḍa man lā tarḍā ʿanhu baʿda ghaḍabika
Turn not away from me with the turning away in wrath from one with whom Thou art not pleased!
وَلاَ تُؤْيِسْنِي مِنَ الامَلِ فِيكَ، فَيَغْلِبَ عَلَيَّ الْقُنُوطُ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ،
walā tuʾayyisnī min al-amal fīka, fayaghliba ʿalayya al-qunūṭu min raḥmatika
Let me not lose heart in expecting from Thee, lest I be overcome by despair of Thy mercy!
وَلاَ تَمْنَحْنِي بِمَا لاَ طَاقَةَ لِيْ بِهِ،
walā tamnaḥnī bimā lā ṭāqata lī bihī
Grant me not that which I cannot endure,
فَتَبْهَظَنِي مِمَّا تُحَمِّلُنِيهِ مِنْ فَضْلِ مَحَبَّتِكَ،
fatabhazhanī mimmā tuḥammilunīhi min faḍli maḥabbatika
lest Thou weighest me down with the surplus of Thy love which Thou loadest upon me!
وَلاَ تُرْسِلْنِي مِنْ يَدِكَ إرْسَالَ مَنْ لاَ خَيْرَ فِيهِ،
walā tur-silnī min yadika ir-sāla man lā khayra fīhī
Send me not from Thy hand, the sending of him who possesses no good,
وَلاَ حَاجَةَ بِكَ إلَيْهِ، وَلاَ إنابَةَ لَهُ،
wa-lā ḥājata bika ʾilayhi, wa-lā inābata lah
toward whom Thou hast no need, and who turns not back [to Thee]!
وَلاَ تَرْمِ بِيَ رَمْيَ مَنْ سَقَطَ مِنْ عَيْنِ رِعَايَتِكَ،
walā tarmi biya ramya man saqata min ʿayni riʿāyatika
Cast me not with the casting of him who has fallen from the eye of Thy regard
وَمَنِ اشْتَمَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْخِزْيُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ،
wa mani ashtamala ʿalayhi al-khizyu min ʿindika
and been wrapped in degradation from Thee!
بَلْ خُذْ بِيَدِيْ مِنْ سَقْطَةِ الْمُتَرَدِّدِينَ،
bal khudh biyadi min saqţati almutaraddidin
Rather take my hand [and save me] from the falling of the stumblers,
وَوَهْلَةِ الْمُتَعَسِّفِيْنَ، وَزَلّةِ الْمَغْرُورِينَ، وَوَرْطَةِ الْهَالِكِينَ.
wa wahlati al-mutaʿassisfiin, wa zallati al-maghruuriin, wa wartaṭati al-haalikiin
the disquiet of the deviators, the slip of those deluded, and the plight of the perishers!
وَعَافِنِي مِمَّا ابْتَلَيْتَ بِهِ طَبَقَاتِ عَبِيدِكَ وَإمآئِكَ،
wa'aafini mimma ibtalayta bihi ṭabaqāti ʿibādika wa imā'ika
Release me from that with which Thou hast afflicted the ranks of Thy servants and handmaids
وَبَلِّغْنِي مَبَالِغَ مَنْ عُنِيتَ بِهِ، وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ، وَرَضِيتَ عَنْهُ،
wa ballighnī mabāligha man ʿunīta bihī, wa anʿamta ʿalayhī, wa raḍīta ʿanhu
and make me reach the utmost degrees of him about whom Thou art concerned, towards whom Thou showest favour, and with whom Thou art pleased,
فَأَعَشْتَهُ حَمِيداً، وَتَوَفَّيْتَهُ سَعِيداً،
fa'aʿashtahu ḥamīdan, wa tawaffaytahu saʿīdan
so that Thou lettest him live as one praiseworthy and takest him to Thee as one felicitous!
وَطَوِّقْنِي طَوْقَ الاِقْلاَعِ عَمَّا يُحْبِطُ الْحَسَنَاتِ،
wa ṭawwiq-nī ṭawq al-iqlāʿ ʿammā yuḥbiṭu al-ḥasanāt
Collar me with the collar of abstaining from that which makes good deeds fail
وَيَذْهَبُ بِالْبَرَكَاتِ،
wayadhhabu bil-barakāti
and takes away blessings!
وَأَشْعِرْ قَلْبِيَ الازْدِجَارَ عَنْ قَبَائِحِ السَّيِّئاتِ،
wa-ashʿir qalbiya al-azdijara ʿan qaba'ihis sayyi'at
Impart to my heart restraint before ugly works of evil
وَفَوَاضِحِ الْحَوْبَاتِ،
wafawāḍiḥi al-ḥawbāt
and disgraceful misdeeds!
وَلاَ تَشْغَلْنِي بِمَا لاَ أُدْرِكُهُ إلاَّ بِكَ عَمَّا لا َ يُرْضِيْكَ عَنِّي غَيْرُهُ،
walā tašġalnī bimā lā udriku-hu illā bika, ʿammā lā yurḍīka ʿannī ġayru-hu
Divert me not by that which I cannot reach except through Thee from doing that which alone makes Thee pleased with me!
وَانْزَعْ مِنْ قَلْبِي حُبَّ دُنْيَا دَنِيَّة تَنْهى عَمَّا عِنْدَكَ،
wa anzʿa min qalbī ḥubba dunyā dunyātan tuhannī ʿammā ʿindaka
Root out from my heart the love of this vile world, which keeps from everything which is with Thee,
وَتَصُدُّ عَنِ ابْتِغَآءِ الْوَسِيلَةِ إلَيْكَ، وَتُذْهِلُ عَنِ التَّقَرُبِ مِنْكَ،
wa taṣuddu ʿani ibtiġāʾi al-wasīlah ilayka, wa tudh-hilu ʿani al-taqarrub minak
bars from seeking the mediation to Thee, and distracts from striving for nearness to Thee!
وَزَيِّنَ لِيَ التَّفَرُّدَ بِمُنَاجَاتِكَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ،
wa zayyina liya at-tafarruda bimunajatika billayli wan-nahari
Embellish for me solitude in prayer whispered to Thee by night and by day!
وَهَبْ لِي عِصْمَةً تُدْنِينِي مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ،
wa hab li ʿismatan tudnini min khashyatika
Give me a preservation which will bring me close to dread of Thee,
وَتَقْطَعُنِي عَنْ رُكُوبِ مَحَارِمكَ،
wa taqṭaʿunī ʿan rukūbi mahārimika
cut me off from committing things made unlawful by Thee,
وَتَفُكُّنِي مِنْ أَسْرِ الْعَظَائِمِ،
wa tafukkuni min asri l-'adha'im
and spare me from captivation by dreadful sins!
وَهَبْ لِي التَّطْهِيرَ مِنْ دَنَسِ الْعِصْيَانِ،
wa hab li al-tat'hīr min danas al-'iṣyān
Give me purification from the defilement of disobedience,
وَأَذْهِبْ عَنِّي دَرَنَ الْخَطَايَا،
wa-adhhib ʿanni darana al-khataaya
take away from me the filth of offenses,
وَسَرْبِلْنِي بِسِرْبالِ عَافِيَتِكَ،
wa sarbilni bisirbal `afiyyatika
dress me in the dress of Thy well-being,
وَرَدِّنِي رِدَآءَ مُعَافاتِكَ،
waraddini ridā'a mu'āfātika
cloak me in the cloak of Thy release,
وَجَلِّلْنِي سَوابِغَ نَعْمَائِكَ،
wa jalilni sawabigha na'ma'ik
wrap me in Thy ample favours,
وَظَاهِرْ لَدَيَّ فَضْلَكَ وَطَوْلَكَ،
waẓāhir ladayya faḍlaka wa ṭawlaka
and clothe me in Thy bounty and Thy graciousness!
وَأَيْدْنِي بِتَوْفِيقِكَ وَتَسْدِيْدِكَ،
waʾaydnī bi tawfīqika wa tasdīdika
Strengthen me with Thy giving success and Thy pointing the right way,
وَأَعِنِّي عَلَى صالِحِ النِّيَّةِ وَمَرْضِيِّ الْقَوْلِ وَمُسْتَحْسَنِ الْعَمَلِ.
wa'ainni ala ṣāliḥi al-niyyah wa marḍiyyi al-qawl wa mustaḥsani al-`amal
help me toward righteous intention, pleasing words, and approved works,
وَلاَ تَكِلْنِي إلَى حَوْلِي وَقُوَّتِي دُونَ حَوْلِكَ وَقُوَّتِكَ،
wa lā takilnī ilā ḥawlī wa quwwatī dūna ḥawlik wa quwwatik
and entrust me not to my force and my strength in place of Thy force and Thy strength!
وَلاَ تَخْزِنِي يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُنِي لِلِقائِكَ،
walā takhzinī yawma tabʿathunī lilqāʾika
Degrade me not on the day Thou raisest me up to meet Thee,
وَلاَ تَفْضَحْنِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ أَوْلِياِئكَ،
walā tafḍaḥnī bayna yaday awliyā'ika
disgrace me not before Thy friends,
وَلاَ تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَكَ، وَلاَ تُذْهِبْ عَنِّي شُكْرَكَ،
walā tunsinī dhikrak, walā tudhhib 'annī shukrak
make me not forget remembering Thee, take not away from me thanking Thee,
بَلْ أَلْزِمْنِيهِ فِي أَحْوَالِ السَّهْوِ عِنْدَ غَفَلاَتِ الْجَاهِلِينَ لاِلائِكَ،
bal alzimniihi fi aḥwaali alssahwi ʿinda ghafalati aljāhiliyna lailāka
but enjoin it upon me in states of inattention when the ignorant are heedless of Thy boons,
وَأَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أُثْنِيَ بِمَا أَوْلَيْتَنِيهِ،
wa-awziʿnī an uthniya bimā awlaytanīh
and inspire me to laud what Thou hast done for me
وَأَعْتَرِفِ بِمَا أَسْدَيْتَهُ إلَيَّ،
wa'a'tarifu bima asdaytahu ilayya
and confess to what Thou hast conferred upon me!
وَاجْعَلْ رَغْبَتِي إلَيْكَ فَوْقَ رَغْبَةِ الْرَّاغِبِينَ،
wajʿal raghbatī ilayka fawqa raghbatil-rāghibīn
Place my beseeching Thee above the beseeching of the beseechers
وَحَمْدِي إيَّاكَ فَوْقَ حَمْدِ الْحَامِدِيْنَ،
wa ḥamdī iyyāka fawqa ḥamdi al-ḥāmidīn
and my praise of Thee above the praise of the praisers!
وَلاَ تَخْذُلْنِي عِنْدَ فاقَتِي إلَيْكَ،
wa lā takhẓulnī ʿinda faqatī ʾilayk
Abandon me not with my neediness for Thee,
وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي بِمَا أَسْدَيْتُهُ إلَيْكَ،
walā tuhlíknī bimā asdaytuhu ʾilayk
destroy me not for what I have done for Thee,
وَلاَ تَجْبَهْنِي بِمَا جَبَهْتَ بِهِ لْمَعَانِدِينَ لَكَ،
wa la tajbahni bima jabahta bihi lima'anidin laka
and slap not my brow with that with which Thou slappest the brow of those who contend with Thee,
فَإنِّي لَكَ مُسَلِّمٌ، أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الْحُجَّةَ لَكَ،
fa inni laka muslimun, aʿlamu anna al-hujjata laka
for I am submitted to Thee. I know that the argument is Thine,
وَأَنَّكَ أَوْلَى بِالْفَضْلِ، وَأَعْوَدُ بِالاحْسَانِ،
wa-annaka a'wla bil-fadli, wa-a'wadu bil-ihsani
that Thou art closest to bounty, most accustomed to beneficence,
وَأَهْلُ التَّقْوَى، وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ،
wa-aahl al-taqwá, wa-aahl al-maghfirah
worthy of reverent fear, and worthy of forgiveness (75:56),
وَأَنَّكَ بِأَنْ تَعْفُوَ أَوْلَى مِنْكَ بِأَنْ تُعَاقِبَ،
wa-annaka bi-an taʿfuwa aula minaka bi-an tuʿaqiba
that Thou art closer to pardoning than to punishing,
وَأَنَّكَ بِأَنْ تَسْتُرَ أَقْرَبُ مِنْكَ إلَى أنْ تَشْهَرَ،
wa-annaka bi-an tastura aqrabu minka ila an tashhara
and that Thou art nearer to covering over than to making notorious!
فَأَحْيِنِي حَياةً طَيِّبَةً تَنْتَظِمُ بِما أُرِيدُ
fa'ahyini hayatan tayyibatan tantazimu bima uridu
Let me live an agreeable life that will tie together what I want
وَتَبْلُغُ مَا أُحِبُّ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ آتِي مَا تَكْرَهُ
wa tablughu ma uhibbu min haythu la ati ma takrah
and reach what I love while I not bring what Thou dislikest
وَلاَ أَرْتَكِبُ مَا نَهَيْتَ عَنْهُ،
wa lā ʾartakibu mā nahayta ʿanhu
and not commit what Thou hast prohibited;
وَأَمِتْنِي مِيْتَةَ مَنْ يَسْعَى نُورُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، وَعَنْ يِمِيِنهِ،
wa amitni mītata man yasʿā nūruhu bayna yadayhi, wa ʿan yimīnih
and make me die the death of him whose light runs before him and on his right hand!
وَذَلِّلْنِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ، وَأَعِزَّنِيْ عِنْدَ خَلْقِكَ،
wadhallilni bayna yadayka, wa a'izzani 'indaka
Abase me before Thyself and exalt me before Thy creatures,
وَضَعْنِي إذَا خَلَوْتُ بِكَ، وَارْفَعْنِي بَيْنَ عِبادِكَ،
waḍaʿnī idhā khalawtu bika, wa-arfaʿnī bayna ʿibādika
lower me when I am alone with Thee and raise me among Thy servants,
وَأَغْنِنِي عَمَّنْ هُوَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِّي،
wa-aghneeni ʿamman huwa ghaniyyun ʿanni
free me from need for him who has no need of me
وَزِدْنِي إلَيْكَ فَاقَةً وَفَقْراً،
wa-zidni ilayka faqatan wa faqrā
and increase me in neediness and poverty toward Thee!
وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ شَمَاتَةِ الاَعْدَاءِ،
wa'aʿidhni min shamātati al-aʿdāʾi
Give me refuge from the gloating of enemies,
وَمِنْ حُلُولِ الْبَلاءِ، وَمِنَ الذُّلِّ وَالْعَنَآءِ،
wa min ḥulūlil-balāʾi, wa minal-ḏulli wal-ʿanāʾi
the arrival of affliction, lowliness and suffering!
تَغَمَّدني فِيمَا اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنِّي
taghammadnī fīmā aṭṭalʿaʿtā ʿalayhi minnī
Shield me in what Thou seest from me,
بِمَا يَتَغَمَّدُ بِهِ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى الْبَطْشِ لَوْلاَ حِلْمُهُ،
bimā yataghammadu bih al-qādiru ʿalā al-baṭshi lawlā ḥilmuhu
the shielding of him who would have power over violence had he no clemency,
وَالاخِذُ عَلَى الْجَرِيرَةِ لَوْلاَ أَناتُهُ،
wa al-akhidhu ʿalā al-jarīrah, lawlā anātuhu
and would seize for misdeeds had he no lack of haste!
وَإذَا أَرَدْتَ بِقَوْم فِتْنَةً أَوْ سُوءً فَنَجِّنِي مِنْهَا لِواذاً بِكَ،
wa-idha aradta biqawmin fitnatan aw su'an fanajjini minha li-wadhankan bi-ka
When Thou desirest for a people a trial or an evil, deliver me from it, for I seek Thy shelter;
وَإذْ لَمْ تُقِمْنِي مَقَامَ فَضِيحَة فِي دُنْيَاكَ فَلاَ تُقِمْنِي مِثْلَهُ فِيْ آخِرَتِكَ،
wa-idh lam tuqimni maqaman fadhihah fi dunyaka fala tuqimni mithlahu fi akhiratika
and since Thou hast not stood me in the station of disgrace in this world of Thine, stand me not in such a station in the next world of Thine!
وَاشْفَعْ لِي أَوَائِلَ مِنَنِكَ بِأَوَاخِرِهَا،
wašfaʿ li ʾawāʾila minnik biʾawāḫirihā
Couple for me the beginnings of Thy kindnesses with their ends
وَقَدِيمَ فَوَائِدِكَ بِحَوَادِثِهَا.
waqadīma fawāʾidika biḥawādithihā
and the ancient of Thy benefits with the freshly risen!
وَلاَ تَمْدُدْ لِيَ مَدّاً يَقْسُو مَعَهُ قَلْبِي،
walā tamdud liya maddan yaqsu maʿahu qalbī
Prolong not my term with a prolonging through which my heart will harden!
وَلاَ تَقْرَعْنِي قَارِعَةً يَذْهَبُ لَها بَهَآئِي،
wa lā taqraʿnī qāriʿatan yaẓhabu lahā bahāʾī
Strike me not with a striking that will take away my radiance!
وَلاَ تَسُمْنِي خَسِيْسَةً يَصْغُرُ لَهَا قَدْرِي،
wa lā tasumnī khasīsatayn yaṣghuru lahā qadri
Visit me not with a meanness that will diminish my worth
وَلاَ نَقِيصَةً يُجْهَلُ مِنْ أَجْلِهَا مَكَانِي،
wa lā naqīṣatan yujhalu min ajlihā makānī
or a deficiency that will keep my rank unknown!
وَلاَ تَرُعْنِي رَوْعَةً أُبْلِسُ بِها، وَلاَ خِيْفةً أوجِسُ دُونَهَا.
walā taruʿnī rawʿatan ʾublisu bihā, walā khiyfatan awjisu dūnahā
Frighten me not with a fright by which I will despair or a terror through which I will dread,
اجْعَلْ هَيْبَتِي في وَعِيدِكَ،
ijʿal haybatī fī waʿīdika
but make me stand in awe of Thy threat,
وَحَذَرِي مِنْ إعْذارِكَ وَإنْذَارِكَ،
waḥaḏari min iʿḏārika wa-inḏārika
take precautions against Thy leaving no excuses
وَرَهْبَتِي عِنْدَ تِلاَوَةِ آياتِكَ،
wa rahbatī ʿinda tilāwat āyātika
and Thy warning, and tremble at the recitation of Thy verses!
وَاعْمُرْ لَيْلِي بِإيقَاظِي فِيهِ لِعِبَادَتِكَ،
wa aʿmur layli bi-iqāqī fīhi li-ʿibādatika
Fill my night with life by keeping me awake therein for worshipping Thee,
وَتَفَرُّدِي بِالتَّهَجُّدِ لَكَ، وَتَجَرُّدِي بِسُكُونِي إلَيْكَ،
wa tafarrudi bi-ttahajjudi laka, wa tajarrudi bi-sukooni ilayk
solitude with vigil for Thee, exclusive devotion to reliance upon Thee,
وَإنْزَالِ حَوَائِجِي بِكَ،
wa inzāli ḥawāʾijī bika
setting my needs before Thee,
وَمُنَازَلَتِي إيَّاكَ فِي فَكَاكِ رَقَبَتِي مِنْ نَارِكَ،
wa munāzalatī iyyāka fī fakāki raqabatī min nārika
and imploring that Thou wilt set my neck free from the Fire
وَإجَارَتِي مِمَّا فِيهِ أَهْلُهَا مِنْ عَذَابِكَ.
wa-ijāratī mimmā fīhi ahluhā min ʿathābika
and grant me sanctuary from Thy chastisement, within which its inhabitants dwell!
وَلاَ تَذَرْنِي فِي طُغْيَانِي عَامِهاً،
walā taḏarnī fī ṭughyānī ʿāmihan
Leave me not blindly wandering in my insolence
وَلاَ فِي غَمْرَتِي سَاهِياً حَتَّى حِين،
walā fī ghamratī sāhīyan ḥattā ḥīn
or inattentive in my perplexity for a time,
وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي عِظَةً لِمَنِ اتَّعَظَ، وَلاَ نَكَالاً لِمَنِ اعْتَبَرَ،
wala taj'alni 'izatan limani at'ta'atha, wa la naqalan limani 'etabar
make me not an admonition to him who takes admonishment, a punishment exemplary for him who takes heed,
وَلاَ فِتْنَةً لِمَن نَظَرَ، وَلاَ تَمْكُرْ بِيَ فِيمَنْ تَمْكُرُ بِهِ،
wa lā fitnatan liman naẓara, wa lā tamkur biya fīman tamkuruhu
a trial for him who observes, devise not against me along with those against whom Thou devisest,
وَلاَ تَسْتَبْدِلْ بِيَ غَيْرِي، وَلاَ تُغَيِّرْ لِيْ إسْماً،
walā tastabdil biya ghayri, walā tughayyir li isman
replace me not with another, change not my name,
وَلاَ تُبدِّلْ لِي جِسْماً، وَلاَ تَتَّخِذْنِي هُزُوَاً لِخَلْقِكَ،
walā tubaddil lī jisman, walā tattakhidhnī huzūan li-khalqika
transform not my body, appoint me not a mockery for Thy creatures,
وَلاَ سُخْرِيّاً لَكَ، وَلاَ تَبَعاً إلاَّ لِمَرْضَاتِكَ،
wa lā sukhriyyan laka, wa lā tabaʿan illā li-marḍātika
a laughing-stock for Thyself, a follower of anything but Thy good pleasure,
وَلاَ مُمْتَهَناً إلاَّ بِالانْتِقَامِ لَكَ، وَأَوْجِدْنِي بَرْدَ عَفْوِكَ،
walā mumtahana illa bil-intiqāmi laka, wa awjidnī barda ʿafwik
a menial servant for anything but avenging Thee! Let me find the coolness of Thy pardon
و حَلاَوَةَ رَحْمَتِكَ وَرَوْحِكَ وَرَيْحَانِكَ وَجَنَّةِ نَعِيْمِكَ،
wa ḥalāwata raḥmatika wa rūḥika wa rayḥānika wa jannati naʿīmika
and the sweetness of Thy mercy, Thy repose, Thy ease, and the garden of Thy bliss!
وَأَذِقْنِي طَعْمَ الْفَرَاغِ لِمَا تُحِبُّ بِسَعَة مِنْ سَعَتِكَ،
wa-ʾadhiqnee ṭaʿma al-faraagh limaa tuḥibbu bisaʿatin min saʿatika
Let me taste, through some of Thy boundless plenty, the flavour of being free for what Thou lovest
وَالاجْتِهَادِ فِيمَا يُزْلِفُ لَدَيْكَ وَعِنْدَك،
wa al-ijtihād fīmā yuzlifu ladayka wa ʿindaka
and striving in what brings about proximity with Thee and to Thee,
وَأَتْحِفْنِي بِتُحْفَة مِنْ تُحَفَاتِكَ،
wa'atḥifnī bi tuḥfatim min tuḥafātika
and give me a gift from among Thy gifts!
وَاجْعَلْ تِجَارَتِي رَابِحَةً، وَكَرَّتِي غَيْرَ خَاسِرَة،
waajʿal tijaarati raabihatan, wakarati ghayra khaasirah
Make my commerce profitable and my return without loss,
وَأَخِفْنِي مَقَامَكَ، وَشَوِّقْنِي لِقاءَكَ،
wa-akhifnī maqāmaka, wa-shawwiqnī liqā'aka
fill me with fear of Thy station, make me yearn for the meeting with Thee,
وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً لاَ تُبْقِ مَعَهَا ذُنُوباً صِغِيرَةً وَلا كَبِيرَةً،
wa tub ʿalayya tawbatan naṣūḥan lā tubqi maʿahā dhunūban ṣaghīratan walā kabīratan
and allow me to repent with an unswerving repentance along with which Thou lettest no sins remain, small or large,
وَلاَ تَذَرْ مَعَهَا عَلاَنِيَةً وَلاَ سَرِيرَةً،
walā taẓar maʿahā ʿalāniyatun walā sariyratun
and leavest no wrongs, open or secret!
وَانْزَعِ الْغِلَّ مِنْ صَدْرِي لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ،
waanzaʿi al-ghilla min sadrii lilmuʾminin
Root out rancour toward the faithful from my breast,
وَاعْطِفْ بِقَلْبِي عَلَى الْخَاشِعِيْنَ،
wa'atif biqalbi 'ala al-khashi'īn
bend my heart toward the humble,
وَكُنْ لِي كَمَا تَكُونُ لِلصَّالِحِينَ،
wa kun li kama takun li al-salihin
be toward me as Thou art toward the righteous,
وَحَلِّنِي حِلْيَةَ الْمُتَّقِينَ،
wa hallinii hilyata al-muttaqeen
adorn me with the adornment of the godfearing,
وَاجْعَلْ لِيَ لِسَانَ صِدْق فِي الْغَابِرِيْنَ،
wajʿal liya lisāna ṣidq fī al-ghābirīn
appoint for me a goodly report among those yet to come
وَذِكْراً نامِياً فِي الاخِرِينَ، وَوَافِ بِيَ عَرْصَةَ الاَوَّلِينَ،
wa dhikran nāmiyan fī al-ākhiriyna, wa wāfi biya arṣata al-awwalīna
and a growing remembrance among the later folk, and take me to the plain of those who came first!
وَتَمِّمْ سُبُوغَ نِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَظَاهِرْ كَرَامَاتِهَا لَدَيَّ،
wa tamim subugh ni'matika 'alayya, wa thahir karamatihā ladayya
Complete the lavishness of Thy favour upon me, clothe me in its repeated generosities,
و امْلاْ مِنْ فَوَائِدِكَ يَدَيَّ، وَسُقْ كَرَائِمَ مَوَاهِبِكَ إلَيَّ،
wa amla min fawāʾidika yadayya, wa suq karāʾima mawāhibika ilayya
fill my hand with Thy benefits, drive Thy generous gifts to me,
وَجَاوِرْ بِيَ الاَطْيَبِينَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآئِكَ
wa jāwir biya al-aṭyabīna min awliyā'ika
make me the neighbour of the best of Thy friends
فِي الْجِنَاْنِ الَّتِي زَيَّنْتَهَا لاَِصْفِيآئِكَ،
fi al-jināni allatī zayyanta-hā la-iṣfiyā'ika
in the Gardens which Thou hast adorned for Thy chosen
وَجَلِّلْنِي شَرَآئِفَ نِحَلِكَ فِي الْمَقَامَاتِ الْمُعَدَّةِ لاَِحِبَّائِكَ،
wajallilnī sharāʾifan niḥalika fī al-maqāmāt al-muʿaddati li-ahibbāʾik
and wrap me in Thy noble presents in the stations prepared for Thy beloveds!
وَاجْعَلْ لِيَ عِنْدَكَ مَقِيْلاً آوِي إلَيْهِ مُطْمَئِنّاً،
wa-j'al liya ʿindaka maqīlan ʾāwi ilayhi muṭmaʾinnan
Appoint for me a resting place with Thee where I may seek haven in serenity,
وَمَثابَةً أَتَبَوَّأُهَا وَأَقَرُّ عَيْناً.
wa mathābatan atabawwa'uha wa aqarru ʿaynan
and a resort to which I may revert and rest my eyes,
وَلاَ تُقَايِسْنِي بِعَظِيمَاتِ الْجَرَائِرِ،
walā tuqāyisnī biʿaẓīmāt al-jarāʾir
weigh not against me my dreadful misdeeds,
وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ،
wa lā tuhliknī yawma tublā al-sarā'iru
destroy me not on the day the secrets are tried (86:9),
وَأَزِلْ عَنِّي كُلَّ شَكٍّ وَشُبْهَة،
wa azil ʿanni kulla shakkin wa shubhah
eliminate from me every doubt and uncertainty,
وَاجْعَلْ لِي فِي الْحَقِّ طَرِيقاً مِنْ كُلِّ رَحْمَة،
wa-jaʿal li fil-ḥaqqi ṭarīqan min kulli raḥmah
appoint for me a way in the truth from every mercy,
وأَجْزِلْ لِي قِسَمَ الْمَواهِبِ مِنْ نَوَالِكَ،
wa ajzil li qisma al-mawahibi min nawalika
make plentiful for me the portions of gifts from Thy granting of awards,
وَوَفِّرْ عَلَيَّ حُظُوظَ الاِحْسَانِ مِنْ إفْضَالِكَ،
wa waffir ʿalayya ḥuẓūẓa al-iḥsāni min ifḍālik
and fill out for me the shares of beneficence from Thy bestowal of bounty!
وَاجْعَلْ قَلْبِي وَاثِقاً بِمَا عِنْدَكَ،
wajʿal qalbī wāthiqan bimā ʿindak
Make my heart trust in what is with Thee
وَهَمِّيَ مُسْتَفْرَغاً لِمَا هُوَ لَكَ،
wa hammīya mustafraġan limā huwa laka
and my concern free for what is Thine,
وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِما تَسْتَعْمِلُ بِهِ خَالِصَتَكَ،
wa astaʿmilnī bimā tastaʿmilu bihi khāliṣatika
employ me in that in which Thou employest Thy pure friends,
وَأَشْرِبْ قَلْبِي عِنْدَ ذُهُولِ العُقُولِ طَاعَتَكَ،
wa-ashrib qalbi 'indadhuwli-l-'uquul taa'atak
drench my heart with Thy obedience when intellects are distracted,
وَاجْمَعْ لِي الْغِنى، وَالْعَفَافَ، وَالدَّعَةَ، وَالْمُعَافَاةَ،
waajma' li al-ghinā, wal-'afāf, wadda'ah, wal-mu'āfāh
and combine within me independence, continence, ease, release,
وَالصِّحَّةَ، وَالسَّعَةَ، وَالطُّمَأْنِيْنَةَ، وَالْعَافِيَةَ،
wal-ṣiḥḥah, was-saʿah, waṭ-ṭumaniinah, wal-ʿaafiyah
health, plenty, tranquillity, and well being!
وَلاَ تُحْبِطْ حَسَنَاتِي بِمَا يَشُوبُهَا مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ،
walā tuḥbiṭ ḥasanātī bimā yashūbuha min maʿṣiyatika
Make not fail my good deeds through my disobedience that stains them
وَلاَ خَلَواتِي بِمَا يَعْرِضُ لِيَ مِنْ نَزَغَاتِ فِتْنَتِكَ،
walā khalawātī bimā yaʿriḍu liya min nazaghāti fitnatika
or my private times of worship through the instigations of Thy trial!
وَصُنْ وَجْهِي عَنِ الطَّلَبِ إلَى أَحَد مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ،
waṣun wajhī ʿani aṭ-ṭalabi ilá ʾaḥad min al-ʿālamīn
Safeguard my face from asking from anyone in the world,
وَذُبَّنِي عَنِ التِماسِ مَا عِنْدَ الفَاسِقِينَ،
wa thubbanī ʿani atimāsi mā ʿinda al-fāsiqīn
and drive me far from begging for that which is with the ungodly!
وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي لِلظَّالِمِينَ ظَهِيراً،
walā tajʿalnī liẓ-ẓālimīna ẓahīran
Make me not an aid to the wrongdoers,
وَلاَ لَهُمْ عَلى مَحْوِ كِتَابِكَ يَداً وَنَصِيراً،
walā lahūm ʿalā maḥwī kitābika yadān wa naṣīrā
nor their hand and helper in erasing Thy Book!
وَحُطْنِي مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ أَعْلَمُ حِيَاطَةً تَقِيْنِي بِهَا،
waḥuṭnī min ḥaythu lā aʿlamu ḥiyāṭatan taqīnī bihā
Defend me whence I know not with a defense through which Thou protectest me!
وَافْتَحْ لِيَ أَبْوَابَ تَوْبَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ وَرَأْفَتِكَ وَرِزْقِكَ الواسِعِ،
wa-iftaḥ liya abwāba tawbatika wa raḥmatika wa raʾfatika wa rizqika al-wāsiʿi
Open toward me the gates of Thy repentance, Thy mercy, Thy clemency, and Thy boundless provision!
إنِّي إلَيْكَ مِنَ الرَّاغِبِينَ،
ʾinnī ʾilayka mina al-rāghibīn
Surely I am one of those who beseech Thee!
وَأَتْمِمْ لِي إنْعَامَكَ، إنَّكَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْعِمِيْنَ،
wa'tmim li inʿāmak, innaka khayru almunʿimīn
And complete Thy favour toward me! Surely Thou art the best of those who show favour!
وَاجْعَلْ باقِيَ عُمْرِيْ فِي الْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ
wa-jʿal bāqiya ʿumrī fī al-ḥajj wa-al-ʿumrah
Place the rest of my life in the hajj and the 'umra
ابْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِكَ يَاربَّ الْعَالَمِينَ،
ibtighāʾa wajhika yā rabba al-ʿālamīn
seeking Thy face, O Lord of the worlds!
وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ،
wa ṣalla allāhu ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi al-ṭṭayyibīna al-ṭāhirīn
And may God bless Muhammad and his Household, the good, the pure,
وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ أَبَدَ الابِدِينَ.
wa al-salāmu ʿalayhi wa ʿalayhim abada al-abidiin
and peace be upon him and them always and forever!
