His Supplication On Noble Moral Traits
Duaa
أَللَّهمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi.
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَبَلِّغْ بِإيْمَانِي أكْمَلَ الإِيْمَانِ،
wa balligh biimaanii akmalal-iimaan
cause my faith to reach the most perfect faith,
وَاجْعَلْ يَقِينِي أَفْضَلَ الْيَقِينِ،
wajʿal yaqīnī afḍal al-yaqīn
make my certainty the most excellent certainty,
و انتَهِ بِنِيَّتِي إلَى أَحْسَنِ النِّيَّـاتِ،
wa antahi biniyyati ila ahsanin-niyyat
and take my intention to the best of intentions
وَبِعَمَلِي إلى أَحْسَنِ الأعْمَالِ.
wa bi'amalī ilā aḥsani al'aʿmāl
and my works to the best of works!
أللَّهُمَّ وَفِّرْ بِلُطْفِكَ نِيَّتِي،
allāhumma waffir bi-lutfika niyyatī
O God, complete my intention through Thy gentleness,
وَصَحِّحْ بِمَـا عِنْدَكَ يَقِينِي،
waṣaḥḥiḥ bimā ʿindaka yaqīnī
rectify my certainty through what is with Thee,
وَاسْتَصْلِحْ بِقُدْرَتِكَ مَا فَسَدَ مِنِّي.
wa-astaṣliḥ bi-qudratika mā fasaḍa minnī
and set right what is corrupt in me through Thy power!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَاكْفِنِي مَا يَشْغَلُنِي الاهْتِمَامُ بِهِ،
wa-kfinī mā yašġalunī al-ihtimām bih
spare me the concerns which distract me,
وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِمَا تَسْأَلُنِي غَداً عَنْهُ
wa astaʿmilnī bimā tasʾalunī ghadan ʿanh
employ me in that about which Thou wilt ask me tomorrow,
وَاسْتَفْرِغْ أَيَّامِي فِيمَا خَلَقْتَنِي لَهُ،
wastafriġ ayyāmī fīmā khalaqtanī lahu
and let me pass my days in that for which Thou hast created me!
وَأَغْنِنِي وَأَوْسِعْ عَلَىَّ فِي رِزْقِكَ،
wa 'agninī wa 'awsic ʿalayya fī rizqika
Free me from need, expand Thy provision toward me,
وَلاَ تَفْتِنِّي بِالبَطَرِ، وَأَعِزَّنِي، وَلا تَبْتَلِيَنِّي بِالْكِبْرِ،
wa lā tafitnī bil-baṭari, wa aʿizzanī, wa lā tabtiliyanī bil-kibr
and tempt me not with ingratitude! Exalt me and afflict me not with pride!
وَعَبِّدْنِي لَكَ وَلاَ تُفْسِدْ عِبَادَتِي بِالْعُجْبِ،
waʿabbidni laka wa lā tufsid ʿibādatī bil-ʿujb
Make me worship Thee and corrupt not my worship with self-admiration!
وَأَجْرِ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى يَدَيَّ الْخَيْرَ، وَلا تَمْحَقْهُ بِالْمَنِّ،
wa ajri linnāsi ʿalā yadayyal khayra, wa lā tamḥaqhu bil manni
Let good flow out from my hands upon the people and efface it not by my making them feel obliged!
وَهَبْ لِي مَعَالِيَ الأَخْلاَقِ، وَاعْصِمْنِي مِنَ الْفَخْرِ.
wa hab li maʿāliya al-akhlaq, wa ʿaṣimni min al-fakhr
Give me the highest moral traits and preserve me from vainglory!
اللَّهُمَّ صَـلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَلا تَـرْفَعْنِي فِيْ النَّاسِ دَرَجَـةً
wa lā tarfaʿnī fīl-nāsi darajah
raise me not a single degree before the people
إلاّ حَطَطْتَنِي عِنْدَ نَفْسِي مِثْلَهَا،
illā ḥaṭṭaṭtanī ʿinda nafsī mithlahā
without lowering me its like in myself
وَلا تُحْدِثْ لِي عِزّاً ظَاهِرَاً
walā tuḥdiṯ lī ʿizzan ẓāhiran
and bring about no outward exaltation for me
إلاّ أَحْدَثْتَ لِي ذِلَّةً بَاطِنَةً عِنْدَ نَفْسِي بِقَدَرِهَا.
'illā 'aḥdath-ta lī dhillatan bāṭinatan ʿinda nafsī biqadarihā
without an inward abasement in myself to the same measure!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa āli muḥammad
O God, bless Muhammad and Muhammad's Household,
وَمَتِّعْنِي بِهُدىً صَالِح لا أَسْتَبْدِلُ بِهِ،
wa matti'ni bi hudan salihin la astabdilu bihi
give me to enjoy a sound guidance which I seek not to replace,
وَطَرِيقَةِ حَقٍّ لا أَزِيْغُ عَنْهَا،
wa ṭarīqati ḥaqqin lā azīghu ʿanhā
a path of truth from which I swerve not,
وَنِيَّةِ رُشْد لاَ أَشُكُّ فِيْهَا
wa niyyati rushdin la ashukku fiha
and an intention of right conduct in which I have no doubts!
وَعَمِّرْنِي مَا كَانَ عُمْرِيْ بِذْلَةً فِي طَاعَتِكَ،
waʿammirnī mā kāna ʿumrī bidhlatah fī ṭāʿatika
Let me live as long as my life is a free gift in obeying Thee,
فَإذَا كَانَ عُمْرِي مَرْتَعَاً لِلشَّيْطَانِ
fa'idha kana 'umri marta'an lish-shaytan
but if my life should become a pasture for Satan,
فَـاقْبِضْنِي إلَيْـكَ قَبْـلَ أَنْ يَسْبِقَ مَقْتُـكَ إلَيَّ،
fa'qbidhnee ilayka qabl'an yasbiqa maqtuka ilayya
seize me to Thyself before Thy hatred overtakes me
أَوْ يَسْتَحْكِمَ غَضَبُكَ عَلَيَّ.
aw yastahkima ghadabuka 'alayya
or Thy wrath against me becomes firm!
أللَّهُمَّ لا تَدَعْ خَصْلَةً تُعَابُ مِنِّي إلاّ أَصْلَحْتَهَا،
allāhumma lā tadaʿ khṣlaẗan tuʿābu minnī illā aṣlaḥtahā
O God, deposit in me no quality for which I will be faulted, unless Thou settest it right,
وَلا عَآئِبَةً أُؤَنَّبُ بِهَا إلاّ حَسَّنْتَهَا،
wala ʿāʾibatan uʾannabu bihā illa ḥassanṭahā
no flaw for which I will be blamed, unless Thou makest it beautiful,
وَلاَ أُكْرُومَـةً فِيَّ نَاقِصَةً إلاّ أَتْمَمْتَهَا.
wa lā ukroomatan fiyya nāqisatan illā atmamtahā
no deficient noble trait, unless Thou completest it!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa āli muḥammad
O God, bless Muhammad and Muhammad's Household
وَأَبْدِلْنِي مِنْ بِغْضَةِ أَهْلِ الشَّنَئانِ الْمَحَبَّةَ
wa abdilni min bighdati ahli ash-shana'i al-mahabbah
and replace for me the animosity of the people of hatred with love,
وَمِنْ حَسَدِ أَهْلِ الْبَغْيِ الْمَوَدَّةَ،
wa min hasadi ahli albaghyi almuwaddah
the envy of the people of insolence with affection,
وَمِنْ ظِنَّةِ أَهْلِ الصَّلاَحِ الثِّقَةَ،
wa min dhinnati ahl al-salāḥ al-thiqah
the suspicion of the people of righteousness with trust,
وَمِنْ عَدَاوَةِ الأَدْنَيْنَ الْوَلايَةَ،
wa min ʿadaawati al-adnayn al-wilaayatah
the enmity of those close with friendship,
وَمِنْ عُقُوقِ ذَوِي الأَرْحَامِ الْمَبَرَّةَ،
wa min ʿuqūqi dhawī al-arḥām al-mabarrāh
the disrespect of womb relatives with devotion,
ومِنْ خِـذْلانِ الأَقْرَبِينَ النُّصْـرَةَ،
wa min khidhlaanil aqrabeen an-nusraht
the abandonment of relatives with help,
وَمِنْ حُبِّ الْمُدَارِينَ تَصْحيحَ الْمِقَةِ،
wa min ḥubbil-mudārīna taṣḥīḥal-miqah
the attachment of flatterers with love set right,
وَمِنْ رَدِّ الْمُلاَبِسِينَ َكَرَمَ الْعِشْرَةِ،
wa min raddi al-mulabisin karama al-ʿishrati
the rejection of fellows with generous friendliness,
وَمِنْ مَرَارَةِ خَوْفِ الظَّالِمِينَ حَلاَوَةَ الأَمَنَةِ.
wa min marārati khawfi alẓẓālimīna ḥalāwata al-amānat
and the bitterness of the fear of wrongdoers with the sweetness of security!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَاجْعَلْ لِيْ يَداً عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنِي
wajʿal li yadan ʿalā man ẓalamani
appoint for me a hand against him who wrongs me,
وَلِسَـاناً عَلَى مَنْ خَـاصَمَنِي
walisānan ʿalā man khāṣamanī
a tongue against him who disputes with me,
وَظَفَراً بِمَنْ عَانَدَنِي
waẓafran biman ʿanadani
and a victory over him who stubbornly resists me!
وَهَبْ لِي مَكْراً عَلَى مَنْ كَايَدَنِي
wa hab li makran ʿala man kayadanī
Give me guile against him who schemes against me,
وَقُدْرَةً عَلَى مَنِ اضْطَهَدَنِي
wa qudratan ʿalā mani iḍṭahadani
power over him who oppresses me,
وَتَكْذِيباً لِمَنْ قَصَبَنِي
wa takdhiban liman qasabani
refutation of him who reviles me,
وَسَلاَمَةً مِمَّنْ تَوَعِّدَنِي
wasalāmata min man tawaʿaddanī
and safety from him who threatens me!
وَوَفِّقْنِي لِطَاعَةِ مَنْ سَدَّدَنِي
wa waffiqnī li-ṭāʿati man saddadnī
Grant me success to obey him who points me straight
وَمُتَابَعَةِ مَنْ أَرْشَدَنِي
wa mutābaʿat(i) man ʾarshadani
and follow him who guides me right!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
وَسَدِّدْنِي لاَِنْ أعَـارِضَ مَنْ غَشَّنِي بِالنُّصْـحِ،
wasaddidnī lā 'aʿāriḍa man ghashshanī bin-nuṣḥi
and point me straight to resist him who is dishonest toward me with good counsel,
وَأَجْـزِيَ مَنْ هَجَرَنِي بِالْبِرِّ وَأُثِيبَ مَنْ حَرَمَنِي بِالْبَذْلِ
wa ajziya man hajaranee bilbirri wa uthiiba man haramanee bilbazl
repay him who separates from me with gentle devotion, reward him who deprives me with free giving,
وَأُكَافِيَ مَنْ قَطَعَنِي بِالصِّلَةِ
wa ʾukāfiya man qaṭaʿanī bi-ṣ-ṣilah
recompense him who cuts me off with joining,
وأُخَـالِفَ مَنِ اغْتَابَنِي إلَى حُسْنِ الذِّكْرِ،
wa ukhālifa mani ightabanī ilā husni al-dhikr
oppose him who slanders me with excellent mention,
وَأَنْ أَشْكرَ الْحَسَنَةَ وَاُغْضِيَ عَنِ السَّيِّئَـةِ.
waan ashkura al-hasanah waoghdhiya ani al-sayyi'ah
give thanks for good, and shut my eyes to evil!
أللَّهُمَّ صَـلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّـد وَآلِـهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَحَلِّنِي بِحِلْيَـةِ الصَّالِحِينَ،
wa hallinī bihil-yati al-ṣāliḥīn
adorn me with the adornment of the righteous,
وَأَلْبِسْنِي زِينَةَ المُتَّقِينَ فِيْ بَسْطِ الْعَدْلِ
wa albisni zeenata almuttaqeen fi basṭi alʿadl
and clothe me in the ornaments of the godfearing, through spreading justice,
وَكَظْمِ الْغَيْظِ وَإطْفَاءِ النَّائِرَةِ وَضَمِّ أَهْلِ الْفُرْقَةِ
wa kaẓmil-ghayẓi wa iṭfā'i an-nā'irati wa ḍammi ahlil-furqaẗi
restraining rage, quenching the flame of hate, bringing together the people of separation,
وَإصْلاَحِ ذَاتِ الْبَيْنِ وَإفْشَاءِ الْعَارِفَةِ،
wa-iṣlāḥi dhātil-bayni wa-ifshāʾil-ʿārifati
correcting discord, spreading about good behaviour,
وَسَتْرِ الْعَائِبَةِ، وَلِينِ الْعَرِيكَةِ،
wa satr al-ʿāʾibah, wa līni al-ʿarīkah
covering faults, mildness of temper,
وَخَفْضِ الْجَنَـاحِ، وَحُسْنِ السِّيرَةِ،
wa khafḍi al-janāḥi, wa ḥusni al-sīrati
lowering the wing, beauty of conduct,
وَسُكُونِ الرِّيـحِ، وَطِيْبِ الْمُخَالَقَـةِ،
wa sukūni ar-rihi, wa ṭībi al-mukhālaqah
gravity of bearing, agreeableness in comportment,
وَالسَّبْقِ إلَى الْفَضِيلَةِ، وإيْثَارِ التَّفَضُّلِ و تَركِ التَّعييرِ،
wal-sabqi ila al-faḍilah, wa-īthāri al-tafaddul wa-tarki al-taʿīr
precedence in reaching excellence, preferring bounteousness, refraining from condemnation,
وَالإفْضَالِ عَلَى غَيْرِ الْمُسْتَحِقِّ وَالـقَوْلِ بِالْحَقِّ وَإنْ عَـزَّ
wa al-ifdali ʿalā ghayr al-mustahiqq wa al-qawli bil-haqqi wa-in ʿazz
bestowing bounty on the undeserving, speaking the truth, though it be painful,
وَاسْتِقْلاَلِ الخَيْـرِ وَإنْ كَثُـرَ مِنْ قَـوْلِي وَفِعْلِي ،
wa-istiqlāli-l-khayri wa-in kathura min qawli wa-fiʿli
making little of the good in my words and deeds, though it be much,
وَاسْتِكْثَارِ الشَّرِّ وَإنْ قَلَّ مِنْ قَوْلِي وَفِعْلِي،
wa as-tikthārī ash-sharri wa in qalla min qawli wa fiʿli
and making much of the evil in my words and deeds, though it be little!
وَأكْمِلْ ذَلِكَ لِي بِدَوَامِ الطَّاعَةِ وَلُزُومِ الْجَمَاعَةِ
waakmil dhālika lī bidawāmi aṭ-ṭāʿati waluzūmi aljamāʿati
Perfect this for me through lasting obedience, holding fast to the community,
وَرَفْضِ أَهْلِ الْبِدَعِ وَمُسْتَعْمِلِ الرَّأي الْمُخْتَرَعِ.
wa rafḍi ahlil bidʿati wa mustaʿmili r-raʾyi l-mukhtariʿi
and rejecting the people of innovation and those who act in accordance with original opinions!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَاجْعَلْ أَوْسَعَ رِزْقِكَ عَلَيَّ إذَا كَبُرتُ ،
wa-jaʿal awsaa rizqika ʿalayya idhaa kaburtu
appoint for me Thy widest provision in my old age
وَأَقْوَى قُوَّتِكَ فِيَّ إذَا نَصِبْتُ،
wa aqwā quwwatika fīyā 'iḏā naṣibtu
and Thy strongest strength when I am exhausted,
وَلاَ تَبْتَلِيَنّي بِالكَسَلِ عَنْ عِبَادَتِكَ
walā tabtalīnī bilkasal ʿan ʿibādatik
try me not with laziness in worship of Thee,
وَلا الْعَمَى عَنْ سَبِيلِكَ وَلاَ بِالتَّعَرُّضِ لِخِلاَفِ مَحَبَّتِكَ،
wa lā al-ʿamā ʿan sabīlika wa lā bit-taʿarruḍi li-khilāfi maḥabbatika
blindness toward Thy path, undertaking what opposes love for Thee,
وَلاَ مُجَامَعَةِ مَنْ تَفَرَّقَ عَنْكَ،
wa lā mujāmaʿati man tafarraqa ʿanka
joining with him who has separated himself from Thee,
وَلا مُفَارَقَةِ مَنِ اجْتَمَعَ إلَيْكَ.
walā mufāraqaẗi mani ʾjtamaʿa ʾilayk
and separating from him who has joined himself to Thee!
أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي أصُوْلُ بِكَ عِنْدَ الضَّرُورَةِ وَأَسْأَلُكَ عِنْدَ الْحَاجَةِ،
allāhumma ajʿalnī aṣūlu bika ʿinda alḍarūrah wa asʾaluka ʿinda al-ḥājah
O God, make me leap to Thee in times of distress, ask from Thee in needs,
وَأَتَضَرَّعُ إلَيْكَ عِنْدَ الْمَسْكَنَةِ ،
waataḍarraʿu ilayka ʿinda al-maskanah
and plead to Thee in misery!
وَلا تَفْتِنّي بِالاسْتِعَانَةِ بِغَيْرِكَ إذَا اضْطُرِرْتُ،
wa lā taf-tin-nī bil-istiaʿāna bi-ghay-rika idhā iḍ-ṭur-ritu
Tempt me not to seek help from other than Thee when I am distressed,
وَلا بِالْخُضُوعِ لِسُؤالِ غَيْرِكَ إذَا افْتَقَـرْتُ ،
walā bil-khuḍūʿ li-suʾāl ghayrika idhā iftaqaṛtu
to humble myself in asking from someone else when I am poor,
وَلاَ بِـالتَّضَـرُّعِ إلَى مَنْ دُونَـكَ إذَا رَهِبْتُ
walā bit-ṭaḍarruʿ ilā man dūnaka iḏā rahibtu
or to plead with someone less than Thee when I fear,
فَأَسْتَحِقَّ بِذلِكَ خِذْلانَكَ
fa'astahiqqa bidhālika khiḍlānaka
for then I would deserve Thy abandonment,
وَمَنْعَكَ وَإعْرَاضَكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
wa-manʿaka wa-iʿrāḍaka yā arḥama al-rāḥimīn
Thy withholding, and Thy turning away, O Most Merciful of the merciful!
أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ مَا يُلْقِي الشَّيْطَانُ فِي رَوْعِي مِنَ التَّمَنِّي وَالتَّظَنِّي وَالْحَسَـدِ
allāhumma ijʿal mā yulqī al-shayṭān fī rawʿī min al-tamannī wa al-taẓannī wa al-ḥasad
O God, make the wishing, the doubt, and the envy which Satan throws into my heart
ذِكْـراً لِعَظَمَتِكَ،
dhikran liʿaẓamatika
a remembrance of Thy mightiness,
وَتَفَكُّراً فِي قُدْرَتِكَ،
wa tafakkuran fi qudratika
a reflection upon Thy power,
وَتَدْبِيراً عَلَى عَدُوِّكَ،
wa tadbeeraan ʿalaa ʿaduwwika
and a devising against Thy enemy!
وَمَا أَجْرَى عَلَى لِسَانِي مِنْ لَفْظَةِ فُحْش أَوْ هُجْر
wa mā ajrā ʿalā lisānī min lafẓati fuhshin aw hujr
Make everything he causes to pass over my tongue, - the indecent or ugly words,
أَوْ شَتْمِ عِرْض أَوْ شَهَادَةِ بَاطِل
aw shatmi ʿirḍin aw shahādati bāṭil
the maligning of good repute, the false witness,
أو اغْتِيَابِ مُؤْمِن غَائِبِ أَوْ سَبِّ حَاضِر،
aw ightiyabi mu'min gha'ibin aw sabb haadir
the speaking ill of an absent man of faith or the reviling of one present,
وَمَا أَشْبَهَ ذَلِكَ نُطْقاً بِالْحَمْدِ لَكَ
wa mā ashbahadhā nuṭqan bil-ḥamdi laka
and all things similar - a speech in praise of Thee,
وَإغْرَاقاً فِي الثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْكَ،
wa ʾighrāqan fī althannāʾi ʿalayk
a pursual of eulogizing Thee,
وَذَهَاباً فِي تَمْجيدِكَ
wa dhahaban fi tamjeedik
an excursion in magnifying Thee,
وَشُكْراً لِنِعْمَتِكَ
wa shukran li ni'matik
a thanksgiving for Thy favour,
وَاعْتِرَافاً بِإحْسَانِكَ
waʿtirafan bi-ihsanika
an acknowledgement of Thy beneficence,
وَإحْصَاءً لِمِنَنِكَ.
wa-ihsā'an liminannika
and an enumeration of Thy kindnesses!
أللّهُمَّ صَـلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَلاَ اُظْلَمَنَّ وَأَنْتَ مُطِيقٌ لِلدَّفْعِ عَنِّي،
wa lā uẓ'laman wa anta muṭīqun lid-daf'i 'anni
let me not be wronged while Thou canst repel from me,
وَلا أَظْلِمَنَّ وَأَنْتَ القَادِرُ عَلَى الْقَبْضِ مِنِّي،
walā ʾaẓlimanna waʾanta al-qādiru ʿalā al-qabḍi minnī
let me not do wrong while Thou art powerful over holding me back,
وَلاَ أَضِلَّنَّ وَقَدْ أَمْكَنَتْكَ هِدَايَتِي،
walā 'aḍillann waqad amkantaka hidāyatī
let me not be misguided while Thou art able to guide me,
وَلاَ أَفْتَقِرَنَّ وَمِنْ عِنْدِكَ وُسْعِي،
wala aftaqiranna wa min ʿindika wusʿi
let me not be poor while with Thee is my plenty,
وَلا أَطْغَيَنَّ وَمِنْ عِنْدِكَ وُجْدِي.
walā aṭghayanna wa min ʿindika wujdī
let me not be insolent while from Thee comes my wealth!
أللَّهُمَّ إلَى مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَفَدْتُ، وَإلَى عَفْوِكَ قَصَـدْتُ،
allāhumma ilā maghfiratika wafadtu, wa ilā ʿafwik qasadtu
O God, I come to Thy forgiveness, I go straight to Thy pardon,
وَإلَى تَجَـاوُزِكَ اشْتَقْتُ، وَبِفَضْلِكَ وَثِقْتُ،
wa'ilā tajāwuzu-ka ʾishtaqtu, wa-bifaḍli-ka wa-thiqtu
I yearn for Thy forbearance, and I trust in Thy bounty,
وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي مَا يُوجِبُ لِي مَغْفِرَتَكَ،
wa laysa ʿindi mā yūjibulī maghfirataka
but there is nothing with me to make me warrant Thy forgiveness,
وَلاَ فِي عَمَلِي مَا أَسْتَحِقُّ بِهِ عَفْوَكَ،
wala fi ʿamalī mā astaḥiqqu bihī ʿafwaka
nothing in my works to make me merit Thy pardon,
وَمَا لِي بَعْدَ أَنْ حَكَمْتُ عَلَى نَفْسِي إلاَّ فَضْلُكَ،
wa mā lī baʿda an ḥakamtu ʿalā nafsī illā faḍluka
and nothing on my behalf after I judge my soul but Thy bounty,
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
so bless Muhammad and his Household
وَتَفَضَّلْ عَلَيَّ
wa tafadhal 'alayya
and bestow Thy bounty upon me!
أللَّهُمَّ وَأَنْطِقْنِي بِالْهُدى،
allāhumma wa anṭiqnī bil-hudā
O God, make my speech be guidance,
وَأَلْهِمْنِي ألتَّقْـوَى وَوَفِّقْنِي لِلَّتِيْ هِيَ أَزْكَى
wa alhimnī al-taqwā wa waffiqnī lil-lati hiya azkā
inspire me with reverential fear, give me success in that which is most pure,
وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِمَا هُوَ أَرْضَى.
waastaʿmilni bimā huwa arḍā
and employ me in what is most pleasing to Thee!
أللَّهُمَّ اسْلُكْ بِيَ الطَّرِيقَـةَ الْمُثْلَى،
allāhumma asluk biyaṭ-ṭarīqah al-muthla
O God, let me tread the most exemplary path
وَاجْعَلْنِي عَلَى مِلَّتِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَى.
waaj'alni ʿalaa millatika amuutu wa ahyaa
and make me live and die in Thy creed!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَمَتِّعْنِي بِالاقْتِصَادِ، وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِ السَّدَادِ،
wa mattiʿnī bil-iqtisād, wa-ijʿalnī min ahl al-siddād
give me to enjoy moderation, make me into one of the people of right behaviour,
وَمِنْ أَدِلَّةِ الرَّشَادِ، وَمِنْ صَالِحِي الْعِبَادِ،
wa min adillatir-rashadi, wa min salihi-l-'ibad
the proofs of right conduct, and the servants of righteousness,
وَارْزُقْنِي فَوْزَ الْمَعَادِ، وَسَلاَمَةَ الْمِرْصَادِ.
wa-rzuqni fawza al-maʿad wa-salamata al-mirsad
and provide me with triumph at the place of Return and safety from the Ambush!
أللَّهُمَّ خُذْ لِنَفْسِكَ مِنْ نَفْسِي مَـا يُخَلِّصُهَا،
allāhumma khudh li-nafsika min nafsī mā yukhallisuhā
O God, take to Thyself from my soul what will purify it
وَأَبْق لِنَفْسِي مِنْ نَفْسِي مَـا يُصْلِحُهَا;
wa-abq li-nafsi min nafsi ma yuslihuha
and leave for my soul that of my soul that will set it right,
فَإنَّ نَفْسِي هَالِكَةٌ أَوْ تَعْصِمَهَا.
fa'inna nafsi halikatun aw taʿsimaha
for my soul will perish unless Thou preservest it!
أَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عُدَّتِي إنْ حَزِنْتُ،
allāhumma anta ʿuddatī in hazintu
O God, Thou art my stores when I sorrow,
وَأَنْتَ مُنْتَجَعِي إنْ حُرِمْتُ،
wa anta muntajaʿī in ḥurimtu
Thou art my recourse when I am deprived,
وَبِكَ استِغَاثَتِي إنْ كَرِثْتُ،
wa bika istighāthatī in karithtu
from Thee I seek aid when troubled
وَعِنْدَكَ مِمَّا فَاتَ خَلَفٌ، وَلِمَا فَسَدَ صَلاَحٌ،
waʿindaka mimmā fāta khalafun, wa limā fasada ṣalāḥun
and with Thee is a substitute for everything gone by, a correction for everything corrupted,
وَفِيمَا أنْكَرْتَ تَغْييرٌ.
wa fee maa ankarta taghyeerun
and a change from everything Thou disapprovest.
فَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ قَبْلَ الْبَلاءِ بِالْعَافِيَةِ، وَقَبْلَ الطَّلَبِ بِالْجِدةِ،
faamnun ʿalayya qabla al-balāʾi bil-ʿāfiyah, waqabla al-ṭalabi bil-jiddah
So show kindness to me with well-being before affliction, wealth before asking,
وَقَبْلَ الضَّلاَلِ بِالرَّشَادِ، وَاكْفِنِي مَؤُونَةَ مَعَرَّةِ الْعِبَادِ،
wa-qabla al-ḍalāli bi al-rashād, wa-kfinī maʾūnat maʿarrat al-ʿibād
right conduct before misguidance; suffice me against the burden of shame toward the servants,
وَهَبْ لِيْ أَمْنَ يَوْمِ الْمَعَادِ، وَامْنَحنِي حُسْنَ الارْشَادِ.
wa-hab-li amna yawm al-ma'ad, wa-amnahni husna al-irshad
give me security on the Day of Return, and grant me excellent right guidance!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّـد وَآلِـهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَادْرَأ عَنّي بِلُطْفِـكَ، وَاغْـذُنِي بِنِعْمَتِكَ،
wadraʾ ʿannī bilutfi-ka, wa-aghzhunī biniʿmati-ka
repel from me through Thy gentleness, feed me through Thy favour,
وَأَصْلِحْنِي بِكَرَمِـكَ، وَدَاوِنِي بصُنْعِـكَ،
wa aslihni bika ramik, wa dāwinī bi ṣunʿik
set me right through Thy generosity, heal me through Thy benefaction,
وَأَظِلَّنِيْ فِي ذَرَاكَ، وجَلِّلْنِي رِضَـاكَ،
wa-aẓillanī fī dharak, wajallilnī riḍāka
shade me in Thy shelter, wrap me in Thy good pleasure,
وَوَفِّقنِي إذَا اشْتَكَلَتْ عَلَيَّ الأمُـورُ لأِهْدَاهَـا،
wa waffiqnī idhā ishtakaltu ʿalayya al-amūru li-ahdāhā
and give me success to reach the most guided of affairs when affairs confuse me,
وَإذَا تَشَابَهَتِ الأعْمَالُ لأزْكَاهَا،
wa idha tashabahatil a'malu li-azkahā
the purest of works when works seem similar,
وَإذَا تَنَاقَضَتِ الْمِلَلُ لأِرْضَاهَا.
wa idha tanāqadhat al-milalu li-ardhāhā
and the most pleasing to Thee of creeds when creeds conflict!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَتَوِّجْنِي بِالْكِفَايَةِ، وَسُمْنِي حُسْنَ الْوِلايَةِ،
wa tawwijnii bilkifāyati, wa sumnii ḥusnal-wilāyah
crown me with sufficiency, place in me excellent guardianship,
وَهَبْ لِيْ صِدْقَ الْهِدَايَةِ، وَلا تَفْتِنِّي بِالسَّعَةِ،
wa hab li ṣidq al-hidāyah, wa lā tafṭinnī bis-saʿah
give me to guide correctly, tempt me not with plenty,
وَامْنَحْنِي حُسْنَ الدَّعَةِ، وَلا تَجْعَلْ عَيْشِي كَدّاً كَدّاً،
wa-amnahnī ḥusna al-dʿah, wa-lā tajʿal ʿayshī kaddān kaddān
grant me excellent ease, make not my life toil and trouble,
وَلاَ تَرُدَّ دُعَائِي عَلَيَّ رَدّاً;
wa lā turuddannā duʿāʾī ʿalayya raddan
and refuse not my supplication in rejection,
فَإنِّي لا أَجْعَلُ لَكَ ضِدّاً وَلا أَدْعُو مَعَكَ نِدّاً.
fa'inni la aj'alulika ḍiddan walā adʿū ma'aka niddan
for I make none rival to Thee and I supplicate none with Thee as equal!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّـد وَآلِـهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَامْنَعْنِي مِنَ السَّرَفِ وَحَصِّنْ رِزْقِي مِنَ التَّلَفِ،
wa-amnaʿnī mina s-sarafi wa-ḥaṣṣin rizqī mina t-talafi
hold me back from prodigality, fortify my provision against ruin,
وَوَفِّرْ مَلَكَتِي بِالْبَرَكَةِ فِيهِ،
wa waffir malakati bil-barakati fiih
increase my possessions through blessing them,
وَأَصِبْ بِي سَبِيلَ الْهِدَايَةِ لِلْبِرِّ فِيمَا اُنْفِقُ مِنْهُ.
wa-aṣib biy sabīl al-hidāyati lilbirri fīmā onfiqu minhu
and set me upon the path of guidance through piety in what I spend!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَاكْفِنِي مَؤُونَةَ الاكْتِسَابِ،
wākfinī maʾūnat al-iktisāb
spare me the burden of earning,
وَارْزُقْنِي مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِسَاب،
wa-arzuqni min ghayr ihtisab
and provide for me without reckoning,
فَلاَ أَشْتَغِلَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِكَ بِالطَّلَبِ
fala ash taghila ʿan ʿibadatika bit talabi
lest I be distracted from Thy worship through seeking
وَلا أَحْتَمِلَ إصْرَ تَبِعَاتِ الْمَكْسَبِ.
wa lā aḥtamila iṣra tabiʿāt al-maksab
and carry the load of earning's ill results!
أللَّهُمَّ فَأَطْلِبْنِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ مَا أَطْلُبُ،
allāhumma fa'aṭlibnī biqudratika mā aṭlubu
O God, bestow upon me what I seek through Thy power
وَأَجِرْنِي بِعِزَّتِكَ مِمَّا أَرْهَبُ.
wa-ajirnī bi-ʿizzatika mimmā arhabu
and grant me sanctuary from what I fear through Thy might!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَصُنْ وَجْهِي بِالْيَسَارِ،
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih wa ṣun wajhī bil yasār
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, save my face through ease,
وَلاَ تَبْتَذِلْ جَاهِي بِالإقْتارِ فَأَسْتَرْزِقَ أَهْلَ رِزْقِكَ،
wala tabtadhil jahi bi al-iqtar fa astarziq ahla rizqika
and demean not my dignity through neediness, lest I seek provision from those whom Thou hast provided
وَأَسْتَعْطِيَ شِرَارَ خَلْقِكَ، فَأفْتَتِنَ بِحَمْدِ مَنْ أَعْطَانِي،
wa-astaʿtiya shirāra khalqika, fa-afatatina bi-hamdi man ʾaʿtānī
and asks for bestowal from the worst of Thy creatures! Then I would be tried by praising him who gave to me
وَاُبْتَلَى بِـذَمِّ مَنْ مَنَعَنِي وَأَنْتَ مِنْ دُونِهِمْ وَلِيُّ الإعْطَاءِ وَالْمَنْعِ.
wa 'ubtila bi-thammi man manaʿanī wa 'anta min dūnihim wa waliyyu al-iʿtāʾi wal-maniʿi
and afflicted with blaming him who held back from me, while Thou - not they - art patron of giving and holding back.
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـةِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
وَارْزُقْنِي صِحَّةً فِيْ عِبَادَة،
warzuqny ṣiḥḥatan fī ʿibādah
and provide me with soundness in worship,
وَفَراغاً فِي زَهَادَة،
wa faraghān fī zahādah
detachment in renunciation,
وَعِلْماً فِي اسْتِعمَـال، وَوَرَعـاً فِي إجْمَال.
waʿilman fi istiʿmal, wa waraʿan fi ijmal
knowledge put into action, and abstinence in measure!
أللَّهُمَّ اخْتِمْ بِعَفْوِكَ أَجَلي،
allāhumma akhtim biʿafwik ajalī
O God, seal my term with Thy pardon,
وَحَقِّقْ فِي رَجَاءِ رَحْمَتِكَ أَمَلِي،
wa ḥaqqiq fī rajā'i raḥmatika amalī
verify my expectation in hoping for Thy mercy,
وَسَهِّلْ إلَى بُلُوغِ رِضَاكَ سُبُلِي،
wa sahhil ila bulugh ridak subuli
smooth my paths to reach Thy good pleasure,
وَحَسِّن فِي جَمِيعِ أَحْوَالِيْ عَمَلِي.
wa ḥassin fī jamīʿi aḥwālī ʿamalī
and make my works good in all my states!
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَنَبِّهْنِي لِذِكْرِكَ فِي أَوْقَاتِ الْغَفْلَةِ،
wa-nabbihni li-thikrika fi awqati al-ghaflah
incite me to remember Thee in times of heedlessness,
وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِطَاعَتِـكَ فِي أَيَّامِ الْمُهْلَةِ،
wa astaʿmilnī bi-ṭāʿatika fī ayyāmi al-muhlah
employ me in Thy obedience in days of disregard,
وَانْهَجْ لِي إلى مَحَبَّتِكَ سَبيلاً سَهْلَةً
wa-anhaj li ila mahabbatika sabeelan sahla
open a smooth road for me to Thy love,
أكْمِلْ لِي بِهَا خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِـرَةِ.
akmil li bihā khayra al-dunyā wa-l-ākhira
and complete for me thereby the good of this world and the next
أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma wa ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, and bless Muhammad and his Household
كَأَفْضَلِ مَـا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى أَحَد مِنْ خَلْقِكَ قَبْلَهُ،
ka'afdali ma sallayta 'ala ahadin min khalkika qablahu
the best Thou hast blessed any of Thy creatures before him
وَأَنْتَ مُصَلٍّ عَلَى أَحَد بَعْدَهُ،
wa anta musalliyan ʿalaa ahadin baʿdahu
and wilt bless any of them after him,
وَآتِنا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً ،
wa ātinā fī al-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fī al-ākhirati ḥasanatan
and give to us in this World good, and in the next world good (2:201),
وَقِنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ عَذَابَ النَّارِ.
wa qinī bi-raḥmatika ʿadhāba al-nār
and protect me through Thy mercy from the chastisement of the Fire (2:201)!
