Duaa

يَا أَللهُ الَّذِي لاَ يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ

yā allāhu alladhī lā yakhfā ʿalayhi

O God, from whom nothing is concealed

شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَآءِ،

shay'un fil-ardi wa la fi as-sama'i

in earth or heaven!

وَكَيْفَ يَخْفى عَلَيْكَ يَا إلهِي مَا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَهُ؟

wa kayfa yakhfa ʿalayka yā ilāhī mā anta khalaqtahu?

How should what Thou hast created, my God, be concealed from Thee?

وَكَيْفَ لاَ تُحْصِي مَا أَنْتَ صَنَعْتَهُ؟

wa kayfa lā tuḥṣī mā anta ṣanʿatahu?

How shouldst Thou not number what Thou hast made?

أَوْ كَيْفَ يَغِيبُ عَنْكَ مَا أَنْتَ تُدَبِّرُهُ؟

aw kayfa yaghību ʿanka mā anta tudabbiruhu?

How should what Thou governest be absent from Thee?

أَوْ كَيْفَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَهْرُبَ مِنْكَ مَنْ لاَ حَياةَ لَهُ إلاَّ بِرِزْقِكَ؟

aw kayfa yastaṭīʿu an yahru ba minka manlā ḥayātahū illā birizqik?

How should one who has no life except through Thy provision have the ability to flee from Thee?

أَوْ كَيْفَ يَنْجُو مِنْكَ مَنْ لاَ مَذْهَبَ لَهُ فِي غَيْرِ مُلْكِكَ؟

aw kaifa yanju minka man laa madhhaba lahu fee ghayri mulkika?

How should one who has no road except in Thy kingdom escape from Thee?

سُبْحَانَكَ! أَخْشى خَلْقِكَ لَكَ أَعْلَمُهُمْ بِكَ،

subḥānaka! akhsha khalkika lak, aʿlamuhum bika

Glory be to Thee! He among Thy creatures who fears Thee most knows Thee best,

وَأَخْضَعُهُمْ لَكَ أَعْمَلُهُمْ بِطَاعَتِكَ،

waʾakhḍaʿuhum laka aʿmaluhum biṭāʿatik

he among them most bent in humility is most active in obeying Thee,

وَأَهْوَنُهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مَنْ أَنْتَ تَرْزُقُهُ وَهُوَ يَعْبُدُ غَيْرَكَ،

wa-ahwanuhum 'alayka man anta tarzuquhu wahua ya'budu ghayrak

and he among them whom Thou providest while he worships another is most contemptible before Thee!

سُبْحَانَكَ! لاَ يُنْقِصُ سُلْطَانَكَ مَنْ أَشْرَكَ بِكَ، وَكَذَّبَ رُسُلَكَ،

subḥānaka! lā yunqisu sulṭānaka man ashra-ka bika, wa kadhdhaba rusulaka

Glory be to Thee! He who associates others with Thee and denies Thy messengers diminishes not Thy authority.

وَلَيْسَ يَسْتَطِيعُ مَنْ كَرِهَ قَضَآءَكَ أَنْ يَرُدَّ أَمْرَكَ،

wa-laysa yastatiʿu man kariha qadāʾaka an yarudda amrak

He who dislikes Thy decree cannot reject Thy command.

وَلاَ يَمْتَنِعُ مِنْكَ مَنْ كَذَّبَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ،

wa lā yamtaniʿu minka man kadhdhaba biqudratika

He who denies Thy power keeps himself not away from Thee.

وَلاَ يَفُوتُكَ مَنْ عَبَدَ غَيْرَكَ،

wala yafutuka man ʿabada ghayraka

He who worships other than Thee escapes Thee not.

وَلاَ يُعَمَّرُ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَآءَكَ.

wa lā yuʿammaru fī al-dunyā man kariha liqāʾaka

He who dislikes meeting Thee will not be given endless life in this world.

سُبْحَانَكَ! مَا أَعْظَمَ شَأْنَكَ، وَأَقْهَرَ سُلْطَانَكَ،

subḥānaka! mā ʾaʿẓama shaʾnaka, wa aqhar sultanaka

Glory be to Thee! How mighty is Thy station, overpowering Thy authority,

وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّتَكَ، وَأَنْفَذَ أَمْرَكَ!

waʾashadda quwwataka, waʾanfadaḏa amraka!

intense Thy strength, penetrating Thy command!

سُبْحَانَكَ! قَضَيْتَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ خَلْقِكَ الْمَوْتَ:

subḥānaka! qaḍayta ʿalā jamīʿi khalqika al-mawt

Glory be to Thee! Thou hast decreed death for all Thy creatures,

مَنْ وَحَّدَكَ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ بِكَ،

man wahaḍaka wa man kafara bika

both him who professes Thy Unity and him who disbelieves in Thee;

وَكُلٌّ ذَائِقُ المَوْتِ،

wa kullun dhāʾiqu al-mawt

each one will taste death,

وَكُلٌّ صَائِرٌ إلَيْكَ، فَتَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ،

wa kullun ṣāʾirun ilayka, fatabārakta wa taʿālayta

each one will come home to Thee. Blessed art Thou and high exalted!

لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ، وَحْدَكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكَ،

lā ʾilāha ʾillā ʾant, waḥdaka lā sharīka lak, ʾāmantu bika

There is no god but Thou, Thou alone, who hast no associate. I have faith in Thee,

وَصَدَّقْتُ رُسُلَكَ وَقَبِلْتُ كِتَابَكَ،

waṣaddaqtu rusulaka wa qabil tu kitabaka

I attest to Thy messengers, I accept Thy Book,

وَكَفَرْتُ بِكُلِّ مَعْبُود غَيْرِكَ،

wa kafartu bikulli ma'budin ghayrika

I disbelieve in every object of worship other than Thee,

وَبَرِئْتُ مِمَّنْ عَبَدَ سِوَاكَ.

wa bariratu mimman ʿabada siwaka

I am quit of anyone who worships another!

أللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أُصْبحُ وَأُمْسِي مُسْتَقِلاًّ لِعَمَلِي،

allāhumma innī uṣbiḥu wa umsī mustaqillan li ʿamalī

O God, I rise in the morning and enter the evening making little of my good works,

مُعْتَرِفاً بِذَنْبِي، مُقِرَّاً بِخَطَايَايَ،

muʿtarifan biðanbi, muqirran bikhataayaaya

confessing my sins, admitting my offenses;

أَنَا بِإسْرَافِي عَلَى نَفْسِي ذَلِيلٌ،

ana biisrafi 'ala nafsi dhalilun

I am abased because of my prodigality against myself.

عَمَلِي أَهْلَكَنِي، وَهَوَايَ أَرْدَانِي،

ʿamalī ahlakani, wa hawāy ardānī

My works have destroyed me, my caprice has ruined me,

وَشَهَوَاتِي حَرَمَتْنِي.

wa shahawātī ḥaramatnī

my passions have deprived me.

فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ سُؤالَ مَنْ نَفْسُهُ لاَهِيَةٌ لِطُولِ أَمَلِهِ،

fa as'aluka ya mawlaya suʾālan man nafsuhu lāhiyatun liṭūli amalih

So I ask Thee, my Master, the asking of him whose soul is diverted by his drawn out expectations,

وَبَدَنُهُ غَافِلٌ لِسُكُونِ عُرُوقِهِ،

wa badanuhu ghāfilun lisukūni ʿurūqih

whose body is heedless because of the stillness of his veins,

وَقَلْبُهُ مَفْتُونٌ بِكَثْرَةِ النِّعَمِ عَلَيْهِ،

wa qalbuhu maftūnun bikathrat al-niʿami ʿalayhi

whose heart is entranced by the multitude of favours done for him,

وَفِكْرُهُ قَلِيلٌ لِمَا هُوَ صَائِرٌ إلَيْهِ،

wa-fikruhu qalilun lima huwa saiirun ilayhi

whose reflection is little concerning that to which he is coming home;

سُؤَالَ مَنْ قَدْ غَلَبَ عَلَيْهِ الاَمَلُ،

suʾāla man qad ghalaba ʿalayhi al-amalُ

the asking of him whom false expectation has overcome,

وَفَتَنَهُ الْهَوى، وَاسْتَمْكَنَتْ مِنْهُ الدُّنْيَا،

wa fata nahul hawa, wastamkanat minhu al dunya

caprice has entranced, and this world has mastered,

وَأَظَلَّهُ الاَجَلُ، سُؤَالَ مَنِ اسْتَكْثَرَ ذُنُوبَهُ،

wa aẓallahu al-ajalu, suʾāla mani-stakthara dhunūbahū

and over whom death has cast its shadow; the asking of him who makes much of his sins

وَاعْتَرَفَ بِخَطِيئَتِهِ، سُؤَالَ مَنْ لاَ رَبَّ لَهُ غَيْرُكَ،

waʿtarafa bi-khaṭīʾatih, suʾila man lā rabbahu ghayruka

and confesses his offense; the asking of him who has no Lord but Thou,

وَلاَ وَلِيَّ لَهُ دُونَكَ، وَلاَ مُنْقِذَ لَهُ مِنْكَ،

walā waliyya lahu dūnaka, walā munqiẓa lahu minka

no friend besides Thee, no one to deliver him from Thee,

وَلاَ مَلْجَأَ لَهُ مِنْكَ إلاَّ إلَيْكَ .

wa la malja'a lahu minka illa ilayk

and no asylum from Thee except in Thee.

إلهِي أسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّكَ الْـوَاجِبِ عَلَى جَمِيعِ خَلْقِكَ،

'ilaahi as'aluka bihaqqikal-waajibil 'alaa jamee'i khalqik

My God, I ask Thee by Thy right incumbent upon all Thy creatures,

وَبِاسْمِكَ الْعَظِيْمِ الَّذِي أَمَرْتَ رَسُولَكَ أَنْ يُسَبِّحَكَ بِهِ،

wa bismika al-ʿaẓīmi alladhī amarta rasūlaka an yusabbiḥaka bihi

by Thy mighty name with which Thou commanded Thy messenger to glorify Thee,

وَبِجَلاَلِ وَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ الذِي لاَ يَبْلى

wa-bi-jalāli wajhika al-karīmi al-ladhī lā yabla

and by the majesty of Thy generous face, which ages not,

وَلاَ يَتَغَيَّرُ، وَلاَ يَحُولُ وَلاَ يَفْنى،

wala yataghayyar, wala yahul, wala yafna

nor changes, nor alters, nor passes away,

أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد،

an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammad wa āli muḥammad

that Thou blessest Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَأَنْ تُغْنِيَنِي عَنْ كُلِّ شَيْء بِعِبادَتِكَ،

wa ʾan tughniyani ʿan kulli shayʾ biʿibadatika

that Thou freest me from need for all things through worshipping Thee,

وَأَنْ تُسَلِّيَ نَفْسِيْ عَنِ الدُّنْيَا بِمَخَافَتِكَ،

wa-an tusalliya nafsi 'anid-dunyā bi-makhāfatika

that Thou distractest my soul from this world through fear of Thee,

وَأَنْ تُثْنِيَنِي بِالْكَثِيْرِ مِنْ كَرَامَتِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ،

wa an tuthniyani bil-kathiri min karamatika bi-rahmatika

and that Thou turnest me back toward Thy abundant generosity through Thy mercy!

فَإلَيْكَ أَفِرُّ، و مِنْكَ أَخَافُ، وَبِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ،

fa-ilayka a'firru, wa minka akhafu, wa bika astaghithu

To Thee I flee, Thee I fear, from Thee I seek aid,

وَإيَّاكَ أَرْجُو، وَلَكَ أَدْعُو، وَإلَيْكَ أَلْجَأُ،

wa-iyyāka arjū, wa-laka adʿū, wa-ilayka aljaʾu

in Thee I hope, Thee I supplicate, in Thee I seek asylum,

وَبِكَ أَثِقُ، وَإيَّاكَ أَسْتَعِينُ، وَبِكَ أُؤمِنُ،

His Supplication In Imploring God

Duaa

يَا أَللهُ الَّذِي لاَ يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ

yā allāhu alladhī lā yakhfā ʿalayhi
