أللَّهُمَّ وَمُنَّ عَلَيَّ بِبَقَاءِ وُلْدِي،

allāhumma wa munnā ʿalayya bi baqāʾi waladī

O God, be kind to me through the survival of my children,

---

وَبِإصْلاَحِهِمْ لِي، وَبِإمْتَاعِي بِهِمْ.

wa bi-iṣlāḥi-him lī, wa bi-imtāʿi bī-him

setting them right for me, and allowing me to enjoy them!

---

إلهِي أمْدُدْ لِي فِي أَعْمَارِهِمْ،

ilāhī amdid lī fī aʿmārihim

My God, make long their lives for me,

---

وَزِدْ لِي فِي آجَالِهِمْ،

wa zid li fi ajalihim

increase their terms,

---

وَرَبِّ لِي صَغِيرَهُمْ

wa rabbī li ṣaghīrahum

bring up the smallest for me,

---

وَقَوِّ لِي ضَعِيْفَهُمْ،

waqawwilī ḍaʿīfahum

strengthen the weakest for me,

---

وَأَصِحَّ لِي أَبْدَانَهُمْ وَأَدْيَانَهُمْ وَأَخْلاَقَهُمْ ،

wa'aṣiḥḥa lī abdānahum wa'adyānahum wa'akhlaqahum

rectify for me their bodies, their religious dedication, and their moral traits,

---

وَعَافِهِمْ فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَفِي جَوَارِحِهِمْ

wa ʿāfihim fī anfusihim wa fī jawārihihim

make them well in their souls, their limbs,

---

وَفِي كُلِّ مَا عُنِيْتُ بِهِ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ،

wa fī kulli mā ʿunītu bihi min amrihim

and everything that concerns me of their affair,

---

وَأَدْرِرْ لِي وَعَلَى يَـدِي أَرْزَاقَهُمْ،

waʾadrir li waʿalā yadī arzāqahum

and pour out for me and upon my hand their provisions!

---

وَاجْعَلْهُمْ أَبْرَاراً أَتْقِيَاءَ بُصَراءَ سَامِعِينَ

wa-jaʿalhum abrārān atqiyyā'a busarā'a sāmiʿīn

Make them pious, fearing, insightful, hearing,

---

مُطِيعِينَ لَكَ وَلأوْلِيَائِكَ مُحِبِّينَ مُنَاصِحِينَ،

muṭīʿīna laka wa li-awliyāʾika muḥibbīna munāṣiḥīna

and obedient toward Thee, loving and well-disposed toward Thy friends,

---

وَلِجَمِيْعِ أَعْدَآئِكَ مُعَانِدِينَ وَمُبْغِضِينَ آمِينَ.

walijamiʿi aʿdāʾika muʿānidīna wa mubghidīna āmīn

and stubbornly resistant and full of hate toward all Thy enemies! Amen!

أللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ بِهِمْ عَضُدِي،

allāhumma shudd bihim ʿaḍudī

O God, through them strengthen my arm,

---

وَأَقِمْ بِهِمْ أَوَدِيْ، وَكَثِّرْ بِهِمْ عَدَدِي،

wa-aqim bihim awadi, wa kathir bihim addadi

straighten my burdened back, multiply my number,

---

وَزَيِّنْ بِهِمْ مَحْضَرِي، وَأَحْييِ بِهِمْ ذِكْرِي،

wa zayyin bihim mahdari, wa ahyi bihim dhikri

adorn my presence, keep alive my mention,

---

وَاكْفِنِي بِهِمْ فِي غَيْبَتِي وَأَعِنِّي بِهِمْ عَلَى حَاجَتِي،

wakfinī bihim fī ghaybatī wa'aʿinnī bihim 'alā ḥājatī

suffice me when I am away, help me in my needs,

---

وَاجْعَلْهُمْ لِي مُحِبِّينَ، وَعَلَيَّ حَدِبِينَ مُقْبِلِينَ مُسْتَقِيمِينَ لِيْ،

waajʿalhum lee muhibbine waʿalayya hadibeena muqbilīna mustaqīmeena lee

and make them loving toward me, affectionate, approaching, upright,

---

مُطِيعِينَ غَيْرَ عَاصِينَ

muṭīʿīna ghayra ʿāṣīna

obedient, never disobedient,

---

وَلاَ عَاقِّينَ وَلا مُخَالِفِينَ وَلاَ خـاطِئِينَ،

wala ʿāqqīna walā mukhālifīna walā khāṭiʾīna

disrespectful, opposed, or offenders!

---

وَأَعِنِّي عَلَى تَرْبِيَتِهِمْ وَتَأدِيْبِهِمْ وَبِرِّهِمْ،

wa'aʿinnī ʿalā tarbiyatihim wa taʾdībihim wa birrihim

Help me in their upbringing, their education, and my devotion toward them,

---

وَهَبْ لِيْ مِنْ لَدُنْكَ مَعَهُمْ أَوْلاداً ذُكُوراً ،

wa hab li min ladunka ma'ahum awladan thukuran

give me among them from Thyself male children,

---

وَاجْعَلْ ذَلِكَ خَيْراً لي وَاجْعَلْهُمْ لِي عَوناً عَلَى مَا سَأَلْتُكَ،

wa-jʿal dhālika khayran lī wa-jʿalhum lī ʿawna ʿalā mā saʾaltuka

make that a good for me, and make them a help for me in that which I ask from Thee!

---

وَأَعِذْنِي وَذُرِّيَّتِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ،

wa'a'ithni wa thurriyyati min ash-shaytan ar-rajim

Give me and my progeny refuge from the accursed Satan,

---

فَإنَّكَ خَلَقْتَنَا وَأَمَرْتَنَا وَنَهَيْتَنَا وَرَغّبْتَنَا

fa innaka khalaqtana wa amartana wa nahaytana wa raggabtana

for Thou hast created us, commanded us, and prohibited us, and made us desire

---

فِي ثَوَابِ ما أَمَرْتَنَا وَرَهَّبْتَنَا عِقَابَهُ،

fī thawābi mā amartanā wa rahhabtanā 'iqābahū,

the reward of what Thou hast commanded, and fear its punishment!

---

وَجَعَلْتَ لَنَا عَدُوّاً يَكِيدُنَا،

wa jaʿaltalana ʿaduwwan yakeeduna

Thou assigned to us an enemy who schemes against us,

---

سَلَّطْتَهُ مِنَّا عَلَى مَا لَمْ تُسَلِّطْنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْهُ،

sallaṭtahu minnā ʿalā mā lam tusallaṭnā ʿalayhi minhu

gave him an authority over us in a way that Thou didst not give us authority over him

---

أَسْكَنْتَهُ صُدُورَنَا، وَأَجْرَيْتَهُ مَجَارِيَ دِمَائِنَا،

ʾaskantahu ṣudūranā, waʾajraytahu majāriya dimāʾinā

allowed him to dwell in our breasts and let him run in our blood vessels;

---

لاَ يَغْفُلُ إنْ غَفَلْنَا، وَلاَ يَنْسَى إنْ نَسِينَا،

lā yaghfulu in ghafalnā, walā yansā in nasīnā

he is not heedless, though we be heedless, he does not forget, though we forget;

---

يُؤْمِنُنَا عِقَابَكَ، وَيَخَوِّفُنَا بِغَيْرِكَ،

yu'minuna 'iqabaka, wa yakhawwifuna bighayrika

he makes us feel secure from Thy punishment and fills us with fear toward other than Thee.

---

إنْ هَمَمْنَا بِفَاحِشَة شَجَّعَنَا عَلَيْهَا،

'in hamamnā bifāḥishah shajjaʿanā ʿalayhā

If we are about to commit an indecency, he gives us courage to do so,

---

وَإنْ هَمَمْنَا بِعَمَل صَالِح ثَبَّطَنَا عَنْهُ،

wa in hamamna bi'amal saalih thabbatna 'anhu

and if we are about to perform a righteous work, he holds us back from it.

---

يَتَعَرَّضُ لَنَا بِالشَّهَوَاتِ، وَيَنْصِبُ لَنَا بِالشَّبُهَاتِ،

yataʿarraḍu lanā bi ash-shahawāt, wa yanṣibu lanā bi ash-shubuhāt

He opposes us through passions, and sets up for us doubts.

---

إنْ وَعَدَنَا كَذَبَنَا وَإنْ مَنَّانا، أَخْلَفَنَا

ʾin waʿadana kaḏabna waʾin mannanā ʾaḫlanāfna

If he promises us, he lies, and if he raises our hopes, he fails to fulfil them.

---

وَإلاّ تَصْرِفْ عَنَّا كَيْدَهُ يُضِلَّنَا،

wa illa tasrif 'anna kaydahu yudhillana

If Thou dost not turn his trickery away from us, he will misguide us,

---

وَإلاّ تَقِنَا خَبالَهُ يَسْتَزِلَّنَا.

wa'ilā taqinā khabālahu yastazillanā

and if Thou dost not protect us from his corruption, he will cause us to slip.

---

أللَّهُمَّ فَاقْهَرْ سُلْطَانَهُ عَنَّا بِسُلْطَانِكَ حَتَّى تَحْبِسَهُ عَنَّا

allāhumma fāqhar sultānahu ʿannā bi-sultānik, ḥattā taḥbisahu ʿannā

O God, so defeat his authority over us through Thy authority, such that Thou holdest him back from us

---

بِكَثْرَةِ الدُّعَاءِ لَكَ، فَنُصْبحَ مِنْ كَيْدِهِ فِي الْمَعْصُومِينَ بِكَ.

bi-kathrati ad-du'ā'i laka, fanuṣbiḥa min kaydihi fī al-maʿṣūmīna bika

through the frequency of our supplication to Thee and we leave his trickery and rise up among those preserved by Thee from sin!

---

أللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي كُلَّ سُؤْلِي، وَاقْضِ لِي حَوَائِجِي،

allāhumma aʿṭinī kulla suʾlī, waqḍi lī ḥawāʾijī

O God, grant me my every request, accomplish for me my needs,

---

وَلاَ تَمْنَعْنِي الإجَابَةَ وَقَدْ ضَمِنْتَهَا لِي،

walā tamnaʿnī al-ijāba waqad ḍamintahā lī

withhold not from me Thy response when Thou hast made Thyself accountable for it to me,

---

وَلا تَحْجُبْ دُعَائِي عَنْكَ وَقَدْ أَمَرْتَنِي بِهِ،

walā taḥjub duʿāʾī ʿanka waqad amartanī bihī

veil not my supplication from Thyself, when Thou hast commanded me to make it,

---

وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِكُلِّ مَا يُصْلِحُنِيْ

waamnun ʿalayya bikulli maa yusliḥunii

and be kind to me through everything that will set me right

---

فِيْ دُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي مَا ذَكَرْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَـا نَسِيتُ،

fī dunyāy wa-ākhiratī mā dhakartu minhu wa-mā nasītu

in this world and the next, in everything that I remember or forget,

---

أَوْ أَظْهَـرتُ أَوْ أَخْفَيْتُ، أَوْ أَعْلَنْتُ أَوْ أَسْرَرْتُ،

aw ʾadhharatu aw ʾakhfaytu, aw aʿlantuu aw asrartu

display or conceal, make public or keep secret!

---

وَاجْعَلْنِي فِي جَمِيعِ ذلِكَ مِنَ الْمُصْلِحِينَ بِسُؤَالِي إيَّـاكَ،

waaj'alnee fee jamee'i thalika min al-musliheena bisualaee iyyaka

In all of this, place me through my asking Thee among those who set things right,

---

الْمُنْجِحِينَ بِالـطَّلَبِ إلَيْـكَ،

al-munjiḥīna bi-aṭ-ṭalabi ilayka

those who are answered favourably when they request from Thee

---

غَيْـرِ الْمَمْنُوعِينَ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَيْكَ،

ghayril mamnooʿeena bi-tawakkuli ʿalayk

and from whom is not withheld when they put their trust in Thee,

---

الْمُعَوَّدِينَ بِالتَّعَوُّذِ بِكَ، الرَّابِحِينَ فِي التِّجَارَةِ عَلَيْـكَ، الْمُجَارِيْنَ بِعِـزِّكَ،

al-muʿawwadīna bi-ttaʿawwuthi bika, ar-rābiḥīna fī at-tijārat ʿalayka, al-mujār

those accustomed to seek refuge in Thee, those who profit through commerce with Thee, those granted sanctuary through Thy might,

---

الْمُـوَسَّـعِ عَلَيْهِمُ الـرِّزْقُ الْحَـلاَلُ

al-muwasʿaʿi ʿalayhimu al-rizqu al-halal

those given lawful provision in plenty

---

مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْوَاسِعِ بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ،

min faḍlika al-wāsiʿi bi-jūdika wa-karamika

from Thy boundless bounty through Thy munificence and generosity,

---

الْمُعَزِّينَ مِنَ الذُّلِّ بِكَ، وَالْمُجَارِينَ مِن الظُّلْمِ بِعَدْلِكَ،

al-muʿazzīna mina al-dhulli bika, wa al-mujārīna mina al-ẓulmi bi-ʿadlika

those who reach exaltation after abasement through Thee, those granted sanctuary from wrong through Thy justice,

---

وَالْمُعَافَيْنَ مِنَ الْبَلاءِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ، وَالْمُغْنَيْنَ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ بِغِنَاكَ،

wal-muʿāfayna min al-balāʾi birahmatika, wal-mughniyana min al-faqr bi-ghināk

those released from affliction through Thy mercy, those delivered from need after poverty through Thy riches,

---

وَالْمَعْصومِينَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ وَالزَّلَلِ وَالْخَطَأِ بِتَقْوَاكَ،

wa al-maʿṣūmīna mina al-dhunūbi wa al-zzalali wa al-khaṭa'i bi-taqwāka

those preserved from sins, slips, and offenses through reverential fear toward Thee,

---

وَالْمُوَفَّقِينَ لِلْخَيْرِ وَالرُّشْدِ وَالصَّوَابِ بِطَاعَتِكَ،

wa al-muwaffaqīna lil-khayr wa al-rushd wa al-ṣawāb bi-ṭāʿatika

those successful in goodness, right conduct, and propriety through obeying Thee,

---

وَالْمُحَالِ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الذُّنُوبِ بِقُدْرَتِكَ،

wal-muḥāli baynahum wa bayna al-ḏunūbi biqudratika

those walled off from sins through Thy power,

---

التَّـارِكِينَ لِكُلِّ مَعْصِيَتِكَ، السَّاكِنِينَ فِي جِوَارِكَ.

al-tārikīn li-kulli maʿṣiyatika, al-sākinīn fī jiwarika

the refrainers from every act of disobedience toward Thee, the dwellers in Thy neighbourhood!

---

أللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِنَا جَمِيعَ ذلِكَ بِتَوْفِيقِكَ

allāhumma aʿtinā jamīʿa dhālika bi-tawfīqik

O God, give me all of that through Thy bestowal of success

---

وَرَحْمَتِكَ وَأَعِذْنَا مِنْ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ،

wa raḥmatika wa aʿiḏnā min ʿadhāb al-saʿīr

and Thy mercy, grant us refuge from the chastisement of the burning,

---

وَأَعْطِ جَمِيعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَـاتِ

wa aʿṭi jamīʿ al-muslimīna wal-muslimāt

and give to all the Muslims, male and female,

---

وَالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ مِثْلَ الَّذِي سَأَلْتُكَ لِنَفْسِي

wal-muʾminīna wal-muʾmināti mithla allaḏī saaltuka linafsī

and all the faithful, male and female, the like of what I have asked for myself

---

وَلِوُلْدِي فِي عَاجِلِ الدُّنْيَا وَآجِلِ الآخِرَةِ،

wa li waladī fī 'ājilid-dunyā wa ājilil-ākhirah

and my children, in the immediate of this world and the deferred of the next!

---

إنَّكَ قَرِيبٌ مُجِيبٌ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

innaka qaribun mujibun sami'un alimun

Verily Thou art the Near, the Responder, the All-hearing, the All-knowing,

---

عَفُوٌّ غَفُـورٌ رَؤُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ.

ʿafūwun ghafūrun raʾūfun rahīm

the Pardoner, the Forgiving, the Clement, the Merciful!

---

وَآتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ.

wa atina fi al-dunya hasanatan wa fi al-akhirati hasanatan waqina `adhaba al-nar

And give to us in this world good, and in the next world good, and protect us from the chastisement of the Fire (2:201)!
